You serious about this?
Cause what I know is that after boot camp, you are assigned to your unit and then deployment
well technically reservists/National guard are assigned their unit during the enlistment process. However they are not obligated to ever go and see them until after they've completed training. The only people who are required to see their unit after basic training are reservist/national guard that are still in highschool. The only reason for that is because they cant fit in their basic training and advanced training during the summer break. Everyone else does their advanced training immediately after their basic training.

27 LAWS OF MILITARY CAREER

1. Your rifle and your ammo are more important than your life. Better be dead than lose them.

2. You can never be the winner in any argument with your superior. Even when you have won.

3. Every commander needs your advice but not in public.

4. If there is a competition, don't come first, and don't come last.

5. Your soldiers are the backbone of your work. Treat them well.

6. If you offend a higher authority, carry your cross.

7. If your soldier offends a higher authority, carry his cross.

8. Remember that the smartest and most intelligent officers often do not get to the top. Only the most loyal ones do.

9. Don't be deceived. Many commanders do not like eye service.

10. Never "contest" a woman with your superior. It is the fastest way to die and many have gone that way.

11. The wife of your superior is either a goldmine or a landmine. If you are not sure of which she is, avoid her.

12. Be brave. Even if you are a coward.

13. If your superior admires your girlfriend, surrender her. If he admires your wife, stand by her. A girlfriend is an accolade. An accolade can be lost without dire consequences. Your wife is your crown. You are nothing without her.

14. Don't ever beg for mercy. It is the foremost manifestation of weakness and the military environment has no respect for weaklings.

15. Don't ever solicit for "welfare". If you are "issued", be very thankful.

16. Don't look for your seniors. Let them look for you. If they look for you, don't keep them waiting.

17. If you don't like a colleague, let him know you don't like him. If he takes steps to warm up to you, don't embrace him. Accommodate him.

18. A lie is an abomination - and a critical part of initiative.

19. If you are lucky to have stumbled on "mega" money, maintain your old lifestyle. If you can't maintain your old lifestyle, maintain a low profile. Camouflage and concealment are not only for the warfront. "Shine" is one reason things are seen.

20. Remember that drinking, smoking and womanizing are prominent features of the job yet, no medals are allocated for them.

21. Don't look too smart before your superiors. Instead, look stupid before them. People are generally comfortable with stupid people whom they can easily control.

22. Wait for your time.

23. Know that the enemy's degree of training is dependent on yours. If he is well trained, then, you are poorly trained. If he is poorly trained, you are well trained.

24. You are a soldier. Not a priest.

25. If you are tired of the job, resign.

26. Never reject a gift from a superior except in protest of a salient point. It is the greatest indirect show of disloyalty.

27. Be everywhere. Every time.

*You may wish to adopt any/all of the foregoing*

The Colonel is actually right, military personnel are trained to kill; they shoot to kill, while their police counterparts shoot to maim. I think the standard training for the army is three consecutive shots to the head or chest, while the police will usually target the legs or shoulders.

Problem is that soldiers shouldn't even be deployed to man checkpoints in the first place(except in places where SoE has been declared), and the security agencies are usually quick to protect their erring men.
Just because they are trained to kill does not mean they shouldn't use their brain. Soldiers in countries like France, Belgium, US, Spain, South Africa etc also get deployed in their cities, they don't go around killing people about.

Taraba state was not under a state of emergency, the soldiers should have tried to shoot the bus tyres instead of just spraying bullets on the bus. And the soldiers had the time to prepare. They just spray bullets on the bus not giving a dam if the kidnappers or kidnapped person is hit. And look at the way the dead bodies and men that were dying were treated, is that the way the Nigerian army are also trained?

There is nothing professional about the Nigerian army, there is a little difference between them and armed bandits/boko haram. The police even said they identified their selves to the soldiers at all the checkpoints on their way to arrest the mallam, so I see no reason they couldn't use their common sense. If a colonel commands them to shoot at their family members will they do so?

I understand your point. Like I said earlier, professionalism is a problem in our security forces, most of these recruits are uneducated anyway.

But apart from that, in the military, when you are given an order, you don't ask questions, except you are ready to explain yourself to the martial tribunal. According to the reports, the Captain called those soldiers and told them that some men in a white bus had kidnapped someone, he ordered them to open fire on the "kidnappers". Naturally, the soldiers did as they were told, ID card or not. At least, that is what we heard.

I don't think anyone approves of the way the policemen were treated, even after death. It's callous and inhuman. Let's just hope justice is served to all the parties involved.

Observation of ISWAP photostreams suggests more than ever before in "Boko Haram history", ISWAP is a non-state military. If estimates r right that it has *40* 100-fighter brigades like in photos/vids, beyond ideology & structural factors, major combat is gonna be needed 2 defeat them.

*Flashback* to late 2009 when BH first traveled to Mali to train w AQIM (desert pics). By 2013 (forested pics) BH organized its own Sambisa camps, no longer needing travel abroad (plus Shekau fell out of AQIM). These were steps to becoming the "pro" non-state army it is today.

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii(op): 7:21am On Aug 16, 2019
Additional Sambisa camp pics. The group began uniforming-up at this time. Nasheeds were about being imprisoned, Shekau, martyrdom, and being Soldiers of God. Bulls-eys read "Kansas" and "Obama". 2013 represented major turning pt & by 2014 some territory was even conquered.

Its no secrete the more Nigeria is blanketed with drone bases and military facilities...the greater insecurity in the region has become. We've gone from Boko Haram to ISIS West Africa now.

So annoying when you see ISWAP gun trucks and Artillery in NA colours, damn!! Even the new Innoson patrol truck has been gifted already? who knows, by next week, we see them driving around in the new proforce MRAP recently acquired, I just wish Nigeria as a matter of policy should end equipping regulars and focus resources on special forces.
We lose more men and resources recovering/destroying our equipments than we spend to defeat terror, what kinda war is that?

What then would the regulars fight with?... special forces cannot cover ground.

Maybe if we invested in the right equipments,we wouldn't be losing the ones we have.
