Shoro niyen? So without this post he wouldn't have been caught?

Nairaland just Wan gain publicity for this matter
If you read the report well .. Nairaland gave the email an identity to track .. But it might have been longer to catch him if he was not linked to the said email

This is the 2012 quote that helped FBI Agents arrest suspected scammer Obinwanne Okeke. He posted the reply September 26, 2012 in the hope that it will link him with some Nigerians in Melbone, Australia where he was susposedly studying.

A rising star - Obinwanne Okeke. BBC News Africa was live. About a year ago

Watching this interview, I kinda like the guy. Shame about the pickle he got himself in.
The story about him and his house having electricity, living off the national grid, not connected to the state electricity board at all, no generator, just renewable energy 100%, got me.

lol

>Google gives FBI his Gmail account since he used their facilities to hack the email account of the CEO

>FBI starts searching for information about this email and stumble upon nairaland where search results shows a certain obi has given out the email address on numerous occasions

>They build a profile for him based on information available on nairaland which are his pictures, his address in Australia as a student and his office address in Nigeria.

>They start tracking his accounts and other things in conjunction with Nigerian authorities

>They realize they have a solid case against him and put up an arrest warrant for him.

>He arrived in America and was arrested by the police because he was on the wanted list of criminals.

Hope it's simple enough for you now cheesy
why did they not go on the money trail atleast all the money was sent to accounts overseas .A business account that receives over $1m must have been opened properly with valid documents and all. When it comes to Nigerians everybody wants to score a cheap point ,they know if they went on the money trail all this other countries will have none of it and wont even cooperate naija make una wake up

Why would I need Nairaland's assistance when many of you wilfully and willingly showcase your entire life on social media?

I've seen the telephone number of many who have insulted me on this forum.

I've linked it to a name.

I've gone to their Facebook page and found they are kids or poverty stricken at which point I lose the zeal for vengeance.
hahaha

Just read the fraudsters posts and threads on NL. Something stands out- he seemed intelligent from the way he interacted with people on here. Perhaps he started out clean, hence why he was so bold to share his social media handles and e mail address, without thinking.

Obviously along the way, he met with some bad guys that influenced him negatively. Reason why he became a less frequent poster on NL.
God bless u.

Exactly wat I thought.

From all indications, you're even worse than a kid...kids are generally eager to read and learn but you....hmmm!!

Its not Nairaland that led to his arrest. If you read the full report, you will see that he has been under surveillance. His fraudulent dealing with Unatrac got him exposed, not his Nairaland post.
his Nairaland post lead the investigator to his twitter account (it seems his twitter account was attached to his nairaland profile)
And his twitter account lead to his IG account

you are not getting it. His social media accounts were just to corroborate the fact that he is fraudulent. What led to his arrest is his fraudulent dealing with Unatrac. If Unatrac kept quiet like the other shoe company he defrauded, nobody would have arrested him even if he made 1 million nairaland posts!!! What led to his arrest was the report Unatrac made to FBI and not his post on Nairaland!!!
