We need to be very careful when we are talking about demon possession. A true Christian/born again can be possessed by demon. Why? Demon have access to a born again Christian life when we fall short of His glory. When we disobey God then the door is open for demons that's when they have the opportunity to have possession. The question now is, can a true born again Christian be perfectly free from sinning while still living in the flesh? The answer is NO. Whether knowingly or unknowingly we sin and when this happens the demon have access to the the life of a Christian. There are different types of demon. Higher demon and lower demons. The same thing has happened to me before, this saliva on the palm issue. The boys had a giant black python coiled up on the floor at a very busy City center. Then he called for volunteers and because I wanted to make sure it wasn't one of his friends in the crowd that they used to deceive the crowd, I stepped forward. Then he asked me my name, called it three times, and touched my hand with the body of the python. By now I was trembling inside with fear cos there's nothing I hate more than snakes (literally and figuratively). But my eyes were wide open to catch their trick. Then he put some sand from the ground on my palm and told me to spit on it, immediately both sand and saliva disappeared and he told me to check the back of my hand, lo and behold I saw saliva at the back, no sand.
If that was a trick, the next one was definitely not. He brought out the snake again from the (empty) carton of biscuits, and covered the carton with a black nylon at the top. Then he faced the direction of popular street where they sell clothes and "called forth" the best clothes. By the time he removed the nylon covering the carton come and see assorted fine T-shirts and trousers! Everyone around started collecting their share for a token (can't remember the exact amount but it was way less than 10% of the cost of those clothes).
Naturally I'm not a covetous person so I didn't collect. Even at that I was told to pay some money otherwise I would run mad within 24hrs. A Christian doesn't need constant renewing of the spirit. The Holy Spirit is ever effective and will never allow a demon enter where he resides.

Maybe you don't understand my interpretation of 'renewing'. Renewing of the spirit is not like asking God for a new Holy Spirit. It is like taking the stock of your walk with God. An evaluation of your Christian Life and making adjustments where necessary.
It is however untrue to say demons can not enter a Christian. If you open the doors, they will. Maybe you should understand the fact that demonic activities can span as far as sicknesses, panic attacks, addictions etc. Tell me, do Christians suffer these effects? You quoted Luke 8:26-36 as what it means to be possessed. This is very inconsistent. Jesus delivered several other people and no one else what shown to behaved this same way this mad man of Gadera did
You also said the Devil cannot coexist in the same place as the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was been tempted, was not the Devil speaking from His mind? When Peter spoke from the devil, 2 persons of the Trinity was around there namely the Son and the Spirit and the Devil could still enter Peter, are you not seeing something big here? In Job, when the sons of God came to give their reports, the Devil was among them. Think about these.

But help me answer this question: If a Christian cannot be possessed by demons, then why the need for Jesus telling Christians to cast out devils? Is it so as to prepare them to be saved? You can't get a demon possessed person saved. The person can't even hear you because the demon has taken control of his senses. That's why you see a demon possessed person often use sharp objects to cut themselves and even break heavy chains, something they would not normally do.

That is why Christians are to cast out the demon so that the person can regain his senses. That way, he or she will be able to hear the gospel and understand it. If he accepts the good news of Jesus, he will immediately receive the Holy Spirit. In so doing, no demon can ever possess him again. The one that left can't return again. But if he rejects Jesus as his saviour, that's when the demon that was cast out returns with seven more wicked demons than himself and they all possess the man.

What you have basis said is that Demons can chase away the Holy Spirit from a Christian. No, not even if the born again person stops walking with God. Why? Because he has been sealed with the Holy Spirit by God.
