However, in every organization, there is what is called ''core functions'' or ''core operations''. Engineering and geophysics are at the core of the NNPC operations. So, it is normal to have them give more considerations to the recruitment of technical staff. These are the core employees of the corporation. A lot of these social sciences positions are support staff. Please, this is not to spite anyone. In organizations like banks, CBN, FIRS etc, they would not employ as much engineers as they would do for social and management science discipline.

Baba my point is no assumption should be made. I'm not going academic as you put it, under engineering computer, software engineering and others were listed under engineering. So when you say engineering be specific about which of the engineering is considered by nnpc as technical otherwise we can assume all engineering disciplines are technical.
PS: computer engineering guys interviewed with computer science guys under same panel.

Who is trained to do all what a chemist is doing please?. Let me quickly check something

Most of my lecturers (professors and doctors) back then were consultants with either NNPC or some other O&G coys. They were mostly pure and applied chemist with vast knowledge in refinery processes, environmental and analytical techniques required in the O&G sectors.

Someone mentioned chemical engineering students borrowing our core courses; to my knowledge aside chemistry of petroleum process (year2) and the usual general chemistry done in the first year, we didn’t share any other course in common. It was rather the other way round, especially in year 3 where industrial chemistry students must offer some courses in chem eng such as unit operations etc. The only thing we had in common was going to NNPC housing complex for sports.

When we visited the Refinery(Warri) for practicals or other laboratories in town, every department has the section they visited; I didn’t see any chem eng taking our place or trying to supervise or give us instructions on what to do because our activities were totally different.

All what I have said won’t change the names already on the list but for my fellow chemist seeking answers, when we get there we should spend money in developing our careers as that is the sure way you end up big.
