Google’s voice search function doesn’t just turn on when you ask it to. Rather, it records almost everything. The outlet reports that Google began doing this in June of 2015. Sounds creepy yet? Well, it gets even worse. You see, you can listen to the recordings Google has stored and associated with your name simply by visiting this webpage the company set up.

The feature works as a way of letting people search with their voice, and storing those recordings presumably lets Google improve its language recognition tools as well as the results that it gives to people. But it also comes with an easy way of listening to and deleting all of the information that it collects. That’s done through a special page that brings together the information that Google has on you.
How to delete the recordings
Luckily, if you’re not too happy about Google having potentially hours of your voice in its database, you can delete those files.

Beside each file’s title you’ll see a checkbox.

How to Stop Google from Recording You Again
Now, as The Independent points out, stopping Google from recording you does result in some limited functionality if you’re using an Android phone or the company’s search.

However, you may be someone whose concern for privacy is much greater than finding what you’re looking for easily. If so, begin by never using Google’s voice search functions again. Follow up by disabling Google’s voice search.

Follow these steps for Android users:

1. Navigate to Settings
2. Tap the General tab
3. Under “Personal” find “Language and Input”
4. Find “Google voice typing” and tap the Settings button
5. Tap “Ok Google” Detection
6. “Under the”From the Google app” option, move the slider to the left

the one i know is, if you are logged into your gmail in any device, all your google searches would be recorded, as far as your data is on and your phone has Gps it would be tracking your location by itself.

Op please can you reconfirmed what’s really captured? I went to this setting in my phone (/myactivity.google.com) and what I found there were basically my intentional voice searches and the recordings that were captured when I mistakenly clicked on the google voice search.

Using voice tracking for marketing purposes is legal because the privacy policies and end-user agreements you agreed with plus current laws actually allow it. Since it's a very effective targeted ad tool, it's not a surprise if companies are using it.

OP forgot to add that before using Google services it is required that you agree to their terms of service and Google gives you the opportunity to decline.

They are literally omnipotent and we are heavily dependent on them as we would our gods. It is really frightening and the powers there be should come together to stop this monopoly.

Yes telcos keep a log of all your voice calls.

This is one of the few reasons why the Chinese Government ban Google in China, everything you do with your phone is strictly monitored by Google and They may be supplying sensitive Government Data to the CIA. A reasonable Government should be more concern about the security of her citizens

Have you guys tried using Microsoft Launcher in an Android Environment? I have been a Windows user for years because i trust them to keep my stuff safe and secure. I am not also ruling out the fact that they may not have their own privacy lapses. But everything i use on my Android (painful) are Windows from the Launcher to the Apps. Everything on my Laptop is synced to my phone and life is good. Try it and thank me later.

It's true, when you get a new device , you will be required to grant Google access to everything, including your microphone.
Imagine talking to someone about a particular product, and then picking up your phone only to see an ad about that particular product from Google.
