My point of view is.... IF I ASKED HER OUT... I MUST BE READY TO SHOW HER THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO SPEND ON HER AND MAKE HER LIFE EASIER.

Not all ladies actually fall for guys who have money.... some ladies are better trained to look at character and personality traits and family before accepting a guy... so also MEN like me are not looking for ladies who feel spending on us will make us respect them.... rather we look for deeper levels of RESPECT.

But some guys won't let you do that. They feel it's ungentlemanly & emasculating. Imagine her taking money out of HER purse for everyone to see. Makes YOU look like a good-for-nothing leech to the onlookers.

I think it's who that asks who out that pays the bill

this is how girls see it,
u can't come and meet me minding my own business then ask me out and then force me to pay the bills, u asked me out! if guys did that then a lot of girls won't feel like going out with them , especially when they are not in the mood to spend, so it's a way of wooing by treating them to free meal

but I think this only applies to the wooing phase, once ur in a relationship it'd be nice if both partners treat each other out to dinner or split bills sometimes

Lol, see there are some things that can't be accepted by African Men. Don't mind what is written on internet or what they claim on NL, most guys here do the opposite of what they type here. An independent Lady is a threat to an African man, A Nigerian man specifically. In Nigeria, no matter how much the woman has she is not allowed to show it, it's perceived as a sign of pride/ competitiveness. The man should always take the lead in everything even when it comes to spending. Lol I call it, self slavery! and this self imposed slavery is caused by pride.

Pride over what? I feel its the society that has made it so. You can't dispute how this society had made it seem a taboo for a lady to spend on a guy. when a guy and a lady are together on a date and the lady pays the bills, the kain eyes wey dem go take dey look the guy self ehn . But i feel there's nothing wrong or bad in a lady footing the bill on a date so far it won't be a continuous thing and the guy won't take it for granted.
