Ask the International Office at your University, they'd give you the best advice on steps to take.

I think all you need is a new updated i20 and an explanation ready for PoE if asked . .... if I remember right but processes might have changed so check with the school .

Also don't forget to drop a transcript for others to learn just as you have learnt

You can register with B.Y mafits and also get free tutorials from them if you are in Lagos.

UPS/FedEx is another means.Shipping is another but very slow and free in schools that offer it.

Masters in what are you aiming for?
For a Mathematics major, your quant score is way low and I would candidly advise you push it up to >= 160. Your Verbal too needs to be helped. Don't waste that GPA of yours.
Success.

Why don't you look into Data Science? There's blood money in FinTech and Chief your Quant needs rework. Hit at least 159+ to be in a better position and 155+ for verbal.

Hi everyone,

I need your help.

My younger sister’s visa was denied for the 2nd time in July. Major reason was that; the VO asked her what my plan after graduation was (I graduated on the 2nd of Aug 2019). *I think they saw it on there sys that I was graduating in Aug* But, she mistakenly mention to the vo that I planned to start my PhD in the fall. She actually prepared for a different response for that question.

That was my initial plan but later deferred my admission.

Please what can we do?
Is it possible not to include my name in her next application?
I need you help, please.

No way ....

why would you give her such advice. If she had only one semester there was absolutely no need to come to Nigeria to renew visa or go anywhere ..... you need to understand rules before going to do your own thing without thinking of consequences or full picture .... as long as she was still in status she doesn't need a visa stamp . An updated i20 is enough and she completes her semester and move on to OPT

You might have missed them and wanted to see them because its not easy to be away from your family but this was a decision taking without looking at the full picture.... if you wanted to see them then plan it for them to visit while the visa was still on ....It's hard getting F1 in the first place with this I dont really have any advice or solution. You can't really appeal or use a lawyer . F1 is at the discretion of the Vo. You can maybe show evidence of payment to the hospital or insurance and apply and hope for the best . If the embassy doesn't see full proof of paying the bill I can tell you for free, that visa ain't coming. They are strict on that matter because foreigners including our people really abuse the system

I wouldn't know if this has been resolved as I am just trying to catch up on old posts. As a student, she had her insurance and I would expect her University's international office to provide her with every support she needs to fight and win this. Truth is her insurance company should have paid and they only tried beating the system in her case.

Guys I have full funding for a PhD I'm assistantship. My issue is that I want to go with my family to the US. I have 3 kids and MY wife making 4. I am wondering what the prospects will be in terms of settlement and living. And also how much cash will be enough for this.

That's a whole lots. Hope you have enough savings to cater for everyone? Though depends school, you need extra 3,000$ for each of your family members. some schools have higher requirement, some lower.

If I'm able to get enough extra money, can we regularise our stay after the my program? And with the funding from the school, it's clear I can't work outside the school. Cam my wife work?

Ok as classes starts up this week, I'm gonna be off this thread for some time.

But I'm going to drop a few I believe will be beneficial to the future candidates.

Preparation

You should be very engaged in searching and researching about your prospective schools and programs. I did categorically say there is a school in the US that fits perfectly with your program and tatse. But most times you have to do the hard work in finding it. The Education USA says and I quote "look for schools that meets your requirements and not schools that you meet their requirements"
Prepare and sit for the GRE at least. Take TOEFL/IELTS if you can(more advantageous)

NEVER go to the embassy without taking at least one standardized test. Saying "it wasn't a requirement for my program" is one of the most lazy response I have heard. Contact as many schools via the Graduate Coordinator to inquire about funding opportunities for your program and the window for application as information is very viatal in this jorney. By all means, endeavor to get some form of funding from your school. Seeing funding on your I20 makes it easy for the VO to get impressed.

The Visa

This is one of the toughest part.
I have not been to the embassy before giving advice to hundreds of people on how to ace their interview. As an analyst, I had taken time to analyse over 700 transcripts from all over the place and noted some key indicators for positive or nagative Interview outcome. So it didn't come as a surprise to me when a lot of people got their Visa approval from my advice.

One thing I learnt during my cybersecurity certification classes is, "if you want to beat a hacker, think like one"

So I say this.. "If you want to impress the VO, think like the VO"

All the questions the VO asks is to verify the following..
1) is this person truly interested in studies?
2) does this person have the money to cover his expenses in the US?
3) does this person have a career plan?
4) does this person have plans of returning after studies?

I noticed that the response you give in "why this school?" And "why this course" played a major role in your final decision.

In your interview you have to engage with the following...

Maintain eye contact always
Anticipate the next question
Be spontaneous
Gesticulate
Be Succinct

The VO has barely 2 minutes to decide if you're getting the Visa or not.

To close I did say..
Write all your exams on time
Get your admits on time
Get your funding on time
Go for your interview on time ( so you can have enough time to reapply if denied or have enough time to wait if placed on AP)

See you in the US.

Peace.
I took the gre in 2015 and the score was not impressive. My school didn't request any test and I'm going for PhD.

F2 ( dependant visa) cannot work legally .... hence why Vo might be keen to know how you can support all

As for regularise your stay, yes it's possible. Some have done it others have not been able to. But with PhD a lot have . Depends on your ability to get a job that files h1b or GC
