LONG POST ALERT
hello guys,
this post is long overdue.
So i was denied a visa to the US sometime last year for studies. I can't really remember the details of the interview but it went well till the part about sponsorship (a relative was sponsoring me and the VO's countenance changed immediately she noticed it).
Anyway, i deferred my admission to the fall 2019 semester and also applied to another school in a different country because i wasn't about to give up this dream of getting a good education. I got admitted into the other school and applied for a study permit to Canada while also applying for my USA F1 visa again. My dad took opened an account for my educational purpose to satisfying financial requirements this time so i wouldn't get to use a relative as a sponsor.
Fast forward to the night of the US interview and i got a denial letter regarding my study permit application. I was really confused and unsettled. I was so scared. All i thought of was how I would potentially be denied from two countries in the space of 24 hours(lol).
My interview at the US embassy the next day goes as follows:
VO: good morning, where are you going to?
Me: I am going to bleep university for my Masters degree in Construction engineering.
VO: When did you finish your first degree?
Me: I graduated in 2014 with a second class upper degree and proceeded for my national youth service at the ministry of works and housing calabar where i was opportuned to work with experienced engineers, and after that proceeded to work at a start up for a year before taking up my new role at BLUHT where I currently work as a construction engineer.
VO: Impressive, why do you want to get a masters degree.
Me: As a matter of fact, I currently work with my dad and the company is an engineering consulting firm but I'd like to incorporate construction into the company, hence the need for this degree, as I would be leading the company to another phase upon my dad's retirement. So i feel the international exposure and quality education would do me a world of good.
VO: Are you the first son?
Me: (trying to crack a joke) you are partially correct and wrong as i am the only son.
VO: na, i am correct and you are a bit wrong (obviously laughing at this point).
Me: Okay, let's agree that we're both correct and partially wrong.
VO: [laughs a bit] and says 'okay, let me have a look at your financials'. Thats the last thing i need to check.
Me: I handed him my dad's bank statement and pointed out to him that that account was made solely for the purpose of my education.(which it actually was)
Vo glance through it for a few seconds, picks up my passport at this point and sticks a paper on it, with the amount on my i20 written on the paper. Next thing, he throws the passport into a tray(I'm staring in disbelief at this point).
VO: I'll be confirming your statement, if it is found to be false, you'll be banned permanently from the US, do you want to proceed?
Me: of course yes(in my mind i'm screaming!!!!)
VO picks up two white papers and says the golden words to me....I'm shaking at this point and can feel serious cold. I quickly collect the papers and zoom off before anybody called me back. I paid the cab guy taking me home an extra 1000 Naira. lol.
it really was a miracle. I got my visa within 4days.
From a denial to Canada a day before the interview to approved to the US the very next day. I actually cried fam!
So I'm typing this now from my townhouse apartment in the US and saying to you guys, please don't give up. I spent a lot of money from visa fees to application fees and now I can say every penny was worth it! I'm finally getting the education I craved for and the experience has been awesome. pls, pls, pls.....keep pushing!!!
Thank you to everyone who contributed and still does on this thread. I am truly grateful. For those applying for the Spring semester, i wish you good luck!

Do I need transit if I use Turkish

1. Yes u can look for flights going to Houston. Better still compare flights going to San Antonio or Dallas. If these destination are cheaper, u can connect to Houston via bus.

2. You don't need a transit Visa in turkey. You don't need to leave the airport.

I once took Qatar on my way to Naija. I spent 21 hours in Qatar. We were each given a double hotel room and fed 3 times. We went to town as d hotel is far from airport. If we didn't need a transit Visa to enter into Qatar. You definitely don't need a transit Visa to stay inside your Turkish airport before catching d next flight.

Hi guys,

I stumbled on this thread and obviously there are a lot of experienced people here. I recently just started my application for a graduate program at Praire View and while I am still awaiting the reference number from the school , I stumbled on the Wes website and posts from people saying apart from transcript evaluation, I’d have to submit waec results and scratch card.
I am confused because my friend did his around August last year and only submitted his university transcript.

Kindly enlighten me . Thanks

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten their visas. And to applicant on the queue, I wish you best of luck.

A quick one to admitted applicants without funding. US is good and sweet oooo, but na money kill am. Its one thing to be determined and focused on getting a degree in the US, its another thing to be financially backed up.

To those of us who obtained financial documents from Uncle's and aunties to obtain the visa, please before you leave Nigeria, call that uncle or aunty to a seat and ask sincere questions like "hunku alani or hanty alake, are you really certain of coughing out millions of naira for me every four months (semester) for my education?. It may sound funny but it's the reality. Most of those aunties or Uncle's are just supporting with the documents alone, just few are willing to support with the cash.

Within the few duration here, I have seen few Nigeria students whose Uncle's from home has abandoned, I have seen few who don't know where the next semester fee is going to come from after struggling to pay for fall 2019, I have seen few who couldn't make it up with their monthly payment installments and they have to pay additional fines and risking dropping of courses because of finances.

Local man is paying over $4k alone for just 3 courses in 4 months (a semester) housing and feeding alone is likely to cost 3-4k as well. That's approximately $8k. (that's about 2.9 million naira every four months, that's about N730,000 every month.)

The thoughts of where to get the money alone will affect you psychologically and might end up affecting your learning attitudes and performances. Dropping out of school is even worse because you will end up been out of status and hence illegal immigrant.

If you hope on getting an on campus jobs of $10/hr for 20 hours a week. That's $800/month, except you want to starve yourself to death, look dirty, don't buy textbooks and the likes, it will be difficult to depend or sustain your studies+housing+feeding on that stipends,

You might even be unlucky to get the job sef,

Back to the basis, coming here is good. But please, make sure you have funding/scholarships. Incase you don't have any which isn't a crime, make sure you have your own personal funds that will sustain you for Atleast a year without struggle. Incase you don't have that, please I beg of you, make sure that uncle of yours that promised to send you 3million naira average in every 4months is truly capable, responsible and dependable so that you won't end up been stranded..

A small joke, I am always used to add "sorry" as a prefix before asking my instructors and fellow students questions. Something like "sorry, what is the time? " or "sorry, how do I get the revenues on the income statement? ",
My financial accounting instructor couldn't bear it anymore and she was like "why is it that most African students, especially Nigerians are always fond of begging and apolgizing in advance before asking questions?, do we get beaten or punished for asking questions if we haven't added 'sorry' to the questions". I just laughed and was like "this woman won't understand"

That last part got me laughing. She doesn't know that the "sorry" will still not satisfy some over-bloated egoist who think they are to be worshiped like gods due to their status.

Hello guys

This is a serious case oo

My wife and kid was denied F2 visa of joining me here because when I was asked during the interview in May 2019 if they will travel with me, I said no and the VO told her yesterday I said they won't join me and why is she applying for F2 to join me, so my wife said I only said they weren't traveling with me and I didn't say they will not join me later but she was denied that I said they won't join me and they cannot join me now.

The truth is I was asked... is you family traveling with you? and I said no. I was not asked, will your family join you.

In English language, I see "traveling with you" and "joining you" as two different meaning.

Does anyone have solution to this serious issue?

They are the same sides of a coin. Both questions are the same. Whether they travel with u, or they later join you, the bottom line is that you had planned a family reunion in US n it is misrepresentation.

This is not supposed to be a big deal but it's just the current climate of things. I read a transcript on this thread where the VO expressly told the applicant that his family will be denied if they applied...this can give u clues to the answers u seek.

Guys I'm a fresher oh. I will appreciate some guidance. I will be on F-1 visa and I m to apply for the 1-20 from the school.
I am on full funding. My bank account is self funded and that's what I will use for the 1-20. Shall I use same bank account foe the F-1 visa?

Also the amount quoted to be domiciled as a requirement is in the account but it's lodged in there barely a month ago. Is there any issue with this.

Other ways I could have a hitch free beging. I will really appreciate.

Howard recently stopped giving full ride. I'm at Fisk presently , her SAT score is good though but I'm not sure if she will get a full ride at Fisk, she should apply early and if her WAEC is splendid that will be good. Also check out Morgan State, Edwards waters, SIUE and Mississippi Valley State ... The all give full ride though the last one requires you to be a fresh high school graduate. And WES evaluation is required for most, you prolly did that for Howard so you good.

Wait, what do you mean by full ride? Are you saying these scholarships cover tuition, room, board, books, insurance, personal expenses, and flights (because that is what a full ride is)? Or do you mean it only covers tuition? Please, endeavor to always be specific.
