This was what I got this morning. Somebody should please tell me what next and do I have to pay for courier service??

If you have not paid for courier service during application,you have to return to vfs to pick your passport.

For the records, my husband has been preparing for go to SA for a marine course. We just wrote the school about the recent happenings and they themselves could not assure him of his safely while in SA. Based on that, a refund of his fees has been processed to his account.

It's quite easy to comment on the situation based on what you see in the news and on social media.

Any one who has legitimate reasons to visit South Africa has nothing to be scared of.

There are certain areas that are volatile and hotpots, those areas are to be avoided. Even before all these attacks, these are areas that people who know South Africa well wouldn't visit at all.

These attacks are limited to certain areas.

That said people would still visit South Africa either way.

My only advice is plan your movement well.

Before you shout me down, I was in MTN taxi rank yesterday, a main hotspot, particularly at the African mall, just to do my normal groceries. The shops were open, business was going on as normal. I'll also be quick to add that yesterday was their first day of opening, since Sunday. They were scared of the attacks also and actually repulsed the attackers when they were coming to loot their shops. I passed through Cosmos City on Wednesday, the heat of the attacks, and there was absolute calm there. However, my people in Nigeria believes that civil war and wanton killings are going on in SA and that we are all hiding in our houses.

To be clear, I did not say some Nigerians did not lose their businesses. However, the same will be said of Pakistanis, Zimbabweans and citizens of other countries who lost their livelihood during the carnage. Nigerians in Nigeria will not know this, but Game stores, Shoprite stores and other South African owned large and small-scale businesses in Johannesburg were also looted and their livelihood destroyed during the madness. These are not foreigners, these are South African businesses.

Secondly, I am curious to see how many Nigerians will board that plane that Air Peace offers free of charge. I promise you, I doubt 10 people will board. This should tell you Nigerians at home that the reports you are reading and watching are largely exaggerated. If it was a return ticket, I'll gladly board that plane so as to say hello to my family and then come back here to Jozi.

Illiterate too much for Nigeria.

I dont know why Nigerians believe everything they see on Facebook.

Long time ago I have decided not to believe anything I see on social media until I investigate to be certain if is true or not.

Nigeria media are damaging the country to the eyes of the world. Something will happen in Sudan, Nigeria media will say it happen somewhere in Nigeria and Nigerians are good in broadcasting rumours.

I wish I'm the president of this country. I will have zero tolerance to any local or International station that carried fake news about Nigeria.

I currently stay in South Africa and through out this whole xenophobic incident I did not personally witness any incident.. Why? Because these thing happen in places that are largely populated by Nigerians and other foreigner, places like hillbrow, rossentenvile, tuffortein, Pretoria Sunnyside and Johannesburg CDB are place you will find most foreigners and Nigerians doing businesses.. Hillbrow expecially has a large population of Nigerians ..that Place is like abia state crawling with so many igbo guys with no visible source of income.. Although some people are into legitimate business. If you want to stay safe in South Africa as a Nigerian aviod these areas..they are not nice areas anyway because they are over populated with foreigners. And also no Nigerian was killed during the recent attack.. Thankfully Nigerians Fought back this time around. The recent xenophobic attacks was cause by lazy Zulu men who stay at jeppestown, jeppe hostel to be precise. The xenophobic attack was just an excuse to loot and cause mayhem around the country.. They don't really care about drug because they them self sell these drug.. Through out this attack no drug lord was attack or arrested nor any drug confiscated.. It was just an excuse to loot.. In the whole of western cape coloured people are the one who sell drugs there, but there was no mentioned of that in the media at all.. They want you to believe Nigerians are the only one who sells drugs. Aviod Zulu people like a plague and stay away from these area and you will be fine. And also most people who were largely affected by this attack were Pakistanis and Somalian who own groceries shops over here. Pakistani and somalian were the ones who lost the most during these attack.. These people have shops in the township and township are mostly populated by South Africans who feel they can loot and get away with it...you hardly find Nigerians in township except few people who can't help it.

Overall I think the whole incident was blown out of proportion by Nigerians in Nigeria.. They made it sound like Nigerians were being butchered. It was just some criminal elements who saw an opportunity to loot shops and cause mayhem same thing also happen in Nigeria . Thing are back to normal now. Next time they would think twice before they start attack like this. And also give the south African Police some credit they did well in curbing the attack without killing anyone.. In Nigeria just one day a person was killed.. You can see why people don't want to come back to Nigeria.. Because what exactly are they coming back to?

I am waiting for my passport and visit visa pls. I pray they issue me. I can't wait to go to South Africa for my vacation. Xenophobia or no xenophobia I don't care. I really don't understand why people who aren't in South Africa would be arguing with people who actually live in South Africa.

With police escorts sef, there are certain places I would never set foot in Johannesburg.

That said any one who decides not to come to South Africa based on news reports, it's well within their rights to do so.

If you are in Nigeria or elsewhere, you can't know the situation better than Nigerians who actually live in South Africa
