Dogs naturally have this fear when it comes to their owner, but when a dog notice the owner is afraid of her, she become aggressive to her owner,
Like my dog, if i change my tone even if he is fighting with other dogs or eating, he quickly respond to my command. That is how dog behaves, not the order way round, if ur dog aggressive to his owner when eating is the owners fault,u train her that way, so ur dog responded to ur training,

Even if my dog has a bone her mouth if she See's my face and tone change and i told him to drop that and move back, he will quietly drop it and move back, cos he knows if he dont i will teech him lesson that day, but mind u nobody can do that except me, cos she very aggressive.

You said you the previous owner didn't tell you anything about the pup, maybe it was treated badly before he handed it to you. Anyway, with some time and patience, you could calm it and socialize.
