7% vat. No wonder Nigeria is undeveloped. People want good road, constant power supply, other good infrastructures but don't want to pay tax. How can the country develope with meagre 7% vat.

So what happens to the millions barrels of crude oil been exported out of the country on a daily basis. What are they using the money for?
And including the so called recovered looted funds, what are they using it for that they are still trying to milk us dry?
What a clueless and failed government.

did you see the take home and allowances of the legislative arm, then imagine what the executive does. Nigeria is structured in such a way that govt controls all the important sectors.... VAT at 5% is the least problem of Nigeria if we actually want to tell ourselves the truth. Imagine a family man earns 30k per month (still debating on the feasibility).

Stupid response. The countries that have these amenities did you EVER hear that the VAT monies were stolen.

A govt that has borrowed more in 4yrs than the previous govt did in 16yrs.

A govt that has not accounted for billions through stamp duty and other numerous charges now wants to increase VAT.

It's after APC is forced out of power that we will hear the stupendous theft that occurred during "President Kyari's" tenure.

why should government increase VAT when more than 50% of population are poor? goverment should rather reduce cost governance, minimise corruption and impose heavy tax on luxurious items. to minimize corruption, sanitize Nigeria police. If police is corrupt, fighting corruption will remain a joke.

The problem is not increasing VAT but what are they going to do with the money. Won't it be looted as well? The issue in Nigeria is not about government making more money but a systematic corruption and ineptitudeness.

You dont understand the dynamics. There is a large percentage that they cannot get 1% VAT from due to the way business is done here and due to lack of transparency.

So, Mr A sells a phone and does not charge VAT because FIRS cannot move near him and because the phone came through illegal channel into the country. Mr B sells the same phone at a price that is 7.5% higher than Mr A. Who will you buy from? Will you buy the cheaper or the more expensive? That is why the increase is counter-productive. They are killing genuine businesses who are paying their dues!

The fight should have been to make everybody pay, but is seems they lack the will or the drive to make that happen.

where is all the money they made on natural resources like crude oil ,gas and limestone

if China are increasing tax like that will investor be trooping there?
all the money that is only use to take care of govt official and pay salaries...don't forget they propose N4T for recurrent expenditure and just N2T for capital expenditure...the money they want to embezzle
