Having witnessed and gathered information from what happened at FUOYE. I understand some facts

The students were protesting against lack of Electricity. It was a peaceful protest. They got informed that her Excellency Bisi Fayemi was in Oye and they wanted her to listen to thier agitation with the hope she would be the best person to pass it to the right authorities. Policemen in an attempt to prevent them from gaining access to Her Excellency, added salt to their injury by slapping FUOYE SUG president.

The protest went out-of-hand and they resorted to vandalism.

The trigger happy policemen opened fire on the angry students and killed at least two students while trying to prevent the students from going across the set line.

"The mismanagement of the issue started from the police who slapped their Union President which made the issue assume a new turn to degenerate into chaos.

It is a sad one for all the parties.

It seems the students desired to be addressed by the First Lady which she could have done but the overzealous policemen birthed the crisis.

Erelu Bisi Fayemi for who she is cannot order such a shooting. The police is poorly trained and they are the ones to blame in all this. You don’t slap a Union President and expect students to stay back. At that point, even the Union President will be unable to keep them in control again"

FUOYE MANAGEMENT CONSTITUTES PANEL TO INVESTIGATE STUDENTS UNREST


The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Professor Kayode Soremekun has set up a twelve man investigative Panel to unravel immediate and remote causes of Tuesday's protest that led to attacks on the Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi and death of two people.


In a statement in Oye Ekiti, Professor Soremekun who said that the step was part of measures to prevent such occurrence and promote academic excellence, also condemned the dastard act and promised to sanitize the university system.

The twelve man Investigative Panel is headed by the FUOYE's Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, while Mrs Blessing Eyiolorunpe is the Secretary.

The panel has two weeks to submit its report.

Why shoot at students protesting?

I remember when UK students where protesting against hike in school fees back then, I think around 2012 or so, there was never an incident of firing live bullets at students.

There is no ground for shooting at students. Funny enough, leaders of the protest would be erusticated from the school system and nothing will be done to the trigger happy policeman.

More like you dare not come out in solidarity to protest against the ills of the society.

It is unfortunate that our Police behave unruly at times just to maintain law and order. I am just too tired of having cases that could easily be controlled leads to lost of lives.

There is no basis for demanding that the wife of the governor address student on issues related to lapses in provision of amenities.

She is not an elected government official nor is she a political appointee!

We shall build a Nation when we start to value one another.

Although we know SUG moves with selfish motives, it is no base for releasing live bullets on citizens, indigenes and more so, students. Re-orientate men and officers of the Nigerian Police, they are few hence it's very possible to run a twelve months training course in three batches

The students better dont say this in court or to the police.. I wish our people can read the Nigerian Police Act 2004 .. or understand why they call them Nigerian Police FORCE , unlike Ghana police Service
