The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has urged the military that purchasing military hardware from other nations puts Nigeria at a disadvantage. A statement from the Bureau said the BPP Director General, Mamman Ahmadu told the top brass that visited him that “military hardware purchased from other nations puts the country at a disadvantaged position which could compromise the country’s security due to the fact that the basic technology is resident in the country of procurement, who will be unwilling to easily avail other nations of such technology.” According to the BPP DG, “building a military industrial complex in order to design and produce indigenous military hardware which will be founded on sound research and development (R& ) will reduce reliance on sourcing spares from other nations and thus abate the possibility of exposing the nation’s military flanks to the enemies in the time of emergency.”He then urged the Nigerian Military to look inwards to develop the country’s own military hardware. Mamman Ahmadu made this call during a courtesy visit by Major General J.O. Oni, the Director Procurement, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and his team to the BPP. Mamman Ahmadu opined that the development of the internal capacity in the military is key to building a virile military base that will lead the country into a nation to be taken seriously by the rest of the world. The BPP boss stated that the military must look inward to develop its own military hardware just like some other developed nations of the world that have very strong force. READ ALSO: How to mitigate fraud and corruption in Nigeria’s Public Procurement Process Mamman Ahmadu while appreciating the efforts of the Nigerian Military in ensuring strict adherence to the Public Procurement Act, 2007 emphasised the significance of the military to any nation, stating that the whole world has benefitted tremendously from military research. He said that some of the terms such as strategies, value engineering used in the civilian arena “are the by – products of military research and some other terminologies in our vocabularies today.” Maj. Gen. J.O. Oni in his response stated that a lot of Research and Development need to go into the production of military hardware. He said a number of privately owned companies in Nigeria must be encouraged to be able to produce military equipment and emphasised that it is not what the military can handle alone. Stating that Research and Development (R& ) is key to military development. He emphasised the fact that even if the government is willing to provide the fund for research to have a military industrial complex, his fear is whether Nigeria has the capacity to be able to undertake the responsibility. |

bidex111:I don't even know how these guys do it, in the face of a corrupt, incapable and rudderless military leadership, these guys are still smiling and fighting. Is it the Nigerian spirit or the ignorance of not knowing your right and holding leaders accountable? God's protection always soldier. |

Toju200:Setting up a verile MIC is a long term process that requires humongous funding and diplomatic wrangling, but the issue with democracies is that governments have limited time to formulate and actualize such goals, so they prefer to focus on short term politically rewarding agenda. Apart from the contemporary west, only in autocracies, semi-democracies and monarchies(governments with more elastic longevity) will you see a semblance of strong government sponsored MICs. The western MICs are being aided by privately funded R& D in the areas of military technology, and that is the best way for Nigeria to build our own. That way, constant change in government will have little effect on advancement of military technology. However, Nigeria must also be prepared to buckle up on the international politics front, foreign affairs is far beyond testosterone-induced scuffles with South Africa that our governments seem to enjoy, we have to be willing to interface with countries with advanced defence industries, inter-governmental partnerships that will open doors for private defense companies to acquire sophisticated technologies, covertly procuring sensitive blueprints, and even subterfuge if the occasion calls for it. That is how you build a powerful MIC within the shortest possible time. |

AIR TASK FORCE OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE DESTROYS TERRORISTS’ TRAINING FACILITY NEAR MALLAM FATORI IN BORNO STATE The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has recorded another major feat with the destruction of an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) training camp near Mallam Fatori on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Northern part of Borno Sate. The operation was executed on 10 September 2019, based on credible intelligence reports and confirmatory Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that identified a building on one of the Lake Chad islands that was being used by the terrorists as a facility to indoctrinate and train new fighters. The ATF therefore dispatched its aircraft to attack the location, which upon arrival over the target area observed significant activity of the terrorists. The attack aircraft scored devastating hits on the building completely destroying it and neutralizing the ISWAP occupants. The few other fighters seen fleeing the location were mopped-up by follow-on attacks. The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations against the terrorists in the Northeast. Covert1:Una don start to dey make mouth again ![]() The military didn't crush MEND and other Niger delta militants. In fact, with the military operation ongoing in the Niger delta, militants kept on bombing and yaradua had to give them amnesty. We all saw what happened when PMB tried to stop paying militants, he had to change his position and started paying them when he saw the military couldn't stop them from bombing. This Nigerian military am looking at will struggle against Benin republic military ![]() |

PRESS RELEASE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF IN MAIDUGURI OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE URGES NIGERIANS TO STOP GLORIFYING CRIMINALS The Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has noted with great concern the increased propaganda and undue publicity given to the remnants of the erstwhile Boko Haram terrorists group by some people. This worrisome development has further boosted the image of the criminal gang thus assuming larger than life status. He made the plea while visiting troops in the North East. He therefore pointed out that, it is wrong for any person to eulogize or support murderers, bandits and armed robbers that the known Boko Haram terrorists group has turned into. Consequently, referring to such gang of criminals, bandits, insurgents such as Boko Haram Terrorists Group, JAS or ISWAP in Nigeria could amount to supporting or encouraging terrorism. The Chief of Army Staff said that it is also important to note that the mode of operation of these elements, is pure criminality for personal gains. It is common knowledge that the criminals no longer pretend to be championing any cause other than quest for materialism as manifested in murder and terror on hapless people. He pleaded that as peace loving people, Nigerians should not be glorifying these criminals by calling them by any name other than “criminals,” “rapists,” “kidnappers”, “armed robbers” and “murderers.” Unfortunately, many Nigerians are not aware that giving prominence to the criminal activities of the terrorists group through sensational headlines and fake news in both electronic and print media could also amount to tacit support to terrorism which violates the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011. It is therefore important that all Nigerians to rally round our gallant troops as they fight these criminals. All should know that the support to the efforts of the Armed Forces Of Nigeria in the counter terrorism efforts would boost their morale and it will be highly appreciated. The Nigerian Army is asking for the continued understanding and cooperation of all Nigerians and well meaning people. He further stated that all troops have been enjoined to henceforth go all out to deal decisively with these criminals. They are nothing but bandits and armed robbers. Let’s support our military to ensure a secured Nigeria. SAGIR MUSA Colonel Acting Director Army Public Relations 13 September 2019 |

It would be idiotic for any same person actually think Nigeria can't defeat Benin militarily, I'm sure their leadership would disagree with you. Fighting BH is hard due to the nature of the conflict and style of fighting, fighting Benin would be much easier actually. I mean, how about BH set a time and place? And this would all be over in less than a month , a rival force wouldn't be hiding in jungles and deserted villages etc, using women and children as human shield , BH isn't a rival force, hit and run attacks doesn't make you powerful, neither is hiding |

ugo4u:I agree with you that we can have quite an inflated ego most times, Nigerians are like Germans, we think we are God's gift to the black race, which isn't really a bad thing anyway. If only we had leaders who could leverage on that orientation, we'd be a world power by now. However, I do believe that the Nigerian military will crush Benin Republic in under a month, there is no rocket science about that. Even Chad cannot withstanding it, if we conduct a military onslaught against them. The major thing those countries have going for them is the support of France, which has become a sort of rivalry power in Africa. |

bidex111:Clearly an ambush. The BHTs that carried out this attack are clearly the sort of SF arm of the group and not the ragtag remnants searching for food in abandoned villages. Left to me, i would assume that BH/ISWAP had prior knowledge of troop movement or perhaps they have improved their intelligence gathering capability. |

You mofos have a liberal piss poor use of the word "Lots". Yes, BokoHarem are nothing but overblown Bandits. They crawl around like roaches looking for food in a single damn forest, in a single damn state at the age of the Sahara Desert. 99% of Nigerians have never experienced Bokoharem. Nigeria has decimated terrorists at a cheaper price more than any African country or even the "World Powers have reduced ISIS, Taliban, Al Qaeda etc....
