Yes..it can..better wait and don't say anything till you have finished the process then you sponsor your spouse..recently I heard that there would be penalties if IRCC later discover that you lied about your family situation like having a wife and kids..

Title: Probably the Longest and Most Uneventful PPR Story Ever

Let's start from the middle...

3 Months+ POST AOR
It's 30th of April 2019 and I'm dancing round my house and singing "He has done for me, He has done for me..." if you have plenty education and you're shaking your head right now and saying "Nigerians!" Don't worry as long as you're on this journey, you'll surprise yourself.

I've typed my PPR testimony before but it seemed forced. Today, however, there's a joy flowing in my heart because so far, I've worked with God's timeline on everything about this journey. Even before I had my AOR, it was revealed to me that we'd get our PPR in May. Yes oh.

This information made waiting *a bit* easy for me. I think one other thing that made waiting easy was reading what Ladymarshall write onetime about just preparing one's mind for a long wait. Our application will be four months in 18 days and I haven't raised CSE, I haven't called CIC, I haven't written Raphl, ordered notes or joined any whatsapp group. I've just focused mainly on threads like this one and immitracker on some days. In fact all my prayer has been "God you told me May oh"

So I'm walking round the house today 30th April and saying "God May is starting tomorrow" I don't want to have to retype the beginning of my PPR.

30th May Update
Well looks like it won't happen this May..bummer. It's been a great coping mechanism though...just 49 days left so smiley I'm glad to have experienced it all, I've had friends having dreams of low CRS, great IELTS scores and shoveling snow in Canada. This journey is physically and mentally draining, find whatever makes you filled with hope and keep believing it even if it feels stupid!
Whatever the case, don't let this journey rob you of your peace of mind; ain't worth it.

Like LadyMarshall says, the timeline is 6 months for actual PR waiting, factor in 9 months to a Year if you're trying to better your CRS, hope to get it earlier but don't give yourself high BP if it comes later! (I wrote this in May and I smile now thinking about how the wait is heating up for Ladymarshall)

23rd June 2019 Update
It's a Sunday, and the Pastor is preaching on an "Invicible Future"...the preaching is about Abraham's move to a foreign land. The talk even entered relocating abroad and Pastor says, you can relocate wherever you like, just pay your tithe here...Pastor doesn't know what we're doing...God is this a sign?
...but then again, everything is a sign when you're waiting for PPR. Heck my mind even told me that the packet of soap in my house won't finish before I get PPR.

Several packets later...

I derail...

The story
My hubby had always dreamt of living in the abroad. While we were "dating", he was working his Masters in the United States. I just told him, if you step out of Nigeria, please don't expect for a second that I'll sit here and be waiting for you oh. Of course this wasn't a threat, I encouraged him to pursue his dreams but he should know I won't wait. Baba changed his mind; Cupid arrow did him strong thing. Good for us since we got married down the line.

So fast forward to just before our wedding, I had some health issues that I couldn't understand. That's how I saw the rubbish-ness of Nigerian hospitals. In my mind I was like "So if I had a terminal illness, this is how these guys will be collecting my money and speaking confused grammar"

March 2018 came and my dear friend and her husband announced they were relocating to Canada; I think it makes it look achievable when people you know get PR. I remember the day I decided, we were on our way home just after we drove past Yabaleft, I told hubby "I can't die in Nigeria, I want to see what's out there" Oga was happy, finally!

IELTS Gist

After my sudden realization, we started planning. I didn't want us to do things in a hurry so we took the patient route. We're both very busy people so we spent sometime getting ready for IELTS. We really didn't take it serious until the week before the exam. We took a break from our routine and visited a nice resort just a week before the exam. Felt great and helped ease the anxiety.

We wrote IELTS on the 30th of June 2018 with MOD. It was raining that morning and I had an anxious stomach. In fact by the time I left the toilet, almost everyone was seated! For some reason, the sound check didn't go well so they kept shifting the time for the listening test. I started to have a really bad feeling.

Hmmm..."map, map," how many times did I call you? God pass you. Everything about IELTS went so well except for the listening. That map did me like rocket science.

Immediately I saw it, panic set in, I didn't get half of what they were describing. I almost missed other parts because I was so focused on trying to get the map. Of course I didn't fill most of the map section but thank God for practice; I just focused on other sections and came back to fill the map section by memory. Although the initial panic affected some other sections.

Note: NEVER LEAVE A QUESTION UNANSWERED, memory can be very surprising!

After the exam, I was heartbroken because I was VERY sure I did so bad in the map section and listening in general. All the math I did gave me 32 at most but my friend who was already in Canada told me not to worry, "it's usually like that". After days of anxiety, I handed it over to God and moved on. I can't forget my relief when the result came out LWRS 8, 8, 9, 8.5 Hubby 8.5, 7, 8.5, 8.5 both first attempts (Thank You Lord!).

Collected the results about 5 months later. I first asked the guy in charge, hope what I saw online will be the same with what I'll see on paper. He said "... doesn't always happen" In my head I'm like "Funke! You say what? Not the same what?!" Thank God it wasn't the case smiley

By the way, we used ieltsonline and Liz YouTube videos. Oga gave me one long list of writing questions which I used to gather ideas for possible writing questions. I think that day the first question was recommending a book to a friend, I used Joyce Meyer's "Battlefield of the Mind" while the second question was something about driving lessons and road accidents?

ECA Experience
The most panic I had on this journey was during ECA. Hubby's went just fine while mine, of course, had to come to drama. Then the people of WES started asking for WAEC and I was like "why me!!!". You see, I'm someone who can't come and goan kee herself. I told hubby at the beginning, "Anything that would take me back to UNIZIK, anything that would require me to lie or stress me one kind, I'M NOT DOING!!!" Then WAEC kwa?

Thank God we escaped it by a hair's breadth!. ECA went on with some drama. I had a friend who helped me with all the waka. She "suffered" on my behalf because UNIZIK suddenly couldn't find my records. When they did, and just when I thought it was over, WES flagged my transcript as incomplete. Me that have handed all my worries over to God I didn't bother myself...just felt bad for the mother of four, my friend, who was walking up and down, being ignored by staff. We started afresh...long story short, it was done properly the second time. Someone shout hallelujah! Nonsense Nigerian school processes. My Msc School was bae though; done in a week! Nigerian school too, howbeit, private.

Medicals
This one was almost a breeze. Once again, we escaped the sudden rush for Qlife by just a hair's breadth! However, two issues; first I went with an unacceptable passport photograph. When they said white background, they meant pure white background. I took a new one within the premises.

The other issue was that we didn't know we were supposed to collect our copy of the form after medicals. We went home with big smiles on our faces after a day well spent until post ITA. There was the request to upload proof of medicals staring at me. I was like "hian!". I got in touch with Qlife and after a little back and forth, they sent me an e-copy; even better!

PCC
Inspector Moshood. I bargained well when he said 10k for hubby and I. Hubby wanted to do father Christmas...thank we barely had cash on us. In fact we had around 7k which was the final cost. I especially loved seeing the old buildings, everything in the police station was so old and colonial, even the ceiling and fans. Made me nostalgic!

POF
I'm so grateful for this community. Due to the lecture by Newmum and some past gurus on how important it was to actually raise your POF and not borrow it, I told hubby, we have to do this right. So we tightened up on our finances. I'm grateful for this journey for several reasons. It helped us realise how much we can achieve as a team and especially taught us financial discipline. Before then, we were both Ministers of enjoyment... we still are but with some sense.

NOTE: Dear wives, I know most of us are often the champions of this journey and our Ogas can be difficult to deal with sometimes but please follow them with as much patience and love as you can possibly muster. Don't nag them, it would only backfire. Wonders happen when couples work as a team!

Funds was in my dom account. Shebi I mentioned I can't come and goan kee myself? I downloaded generic GTB bank statement on my online dashboard and also downloaded proof of earnings from the freelance platform I make my living from. I panicked when I saw plenty people talking about letter and plenty other proof after I had submitted. In fact remember okwa Silversurfer1 saying you could use online statement and he was almost stoned on this street.

With all the "facts" people were presenting I panicked oh I won't lie. Then I realised I had to go to the bank to get it. I was like, it's not that serious abeg. If they want extra proof, they have my email and phone number. Moreover, my friend told me her husband also used account statement. I also read about someone who used her online account statement and got PPR in an earlier thread.

Proof of Work Experience
I'm a freelancer and unregistered business owner ;( so this was really hard at first. CIC requirement isn't so straight forward for freelancers. And considering how short term most freelance jobs are, it would have been a hassle to start asking several clients for reference letters.

So I was left with months of experience in different NOCs and my NYSC experience. I'm a good chaid of God so I was really concerned about whether or not NYSC was truly 1 year. I almost didn't apply because I didn't want to lie. Then I studied the thread carefully, I also studied the NYSC clause. The fact is you were paid from month 1 to 12. It's infact no different from the regular job when you factor in trainings, probable maternity/sick leave and vacations.

Moreover, NYSC clearly states that you should be treated as a staff of the establishment. In my case, the school I taught also employed me as a full time staff. So I got a reference letter from the school and also used my NYSC placement letter so it's perfectly clear to them o. I added my First Bank account Statement to show NYSC allowance, although I didn't know I should have highlighted the payments until later.

ITA
Came in November 2018. We weren't jumping up and down, we've been planning for it since February 2018. We were very grateful though. (Update: we became more grateful in 2019)

Post ITA
I wasn't overly careful; please don't be like me. I filled everything based on the overflowing info on this thread. A few things I was worried about included having to use Camscanner despite the watermark. Searched on Google and saw @ifeoma's post about it not being a big deal. I was like "Chukwu darlu" As a chronic introvert, I'm grateful for anything that keeps me from going out.
My certificate had the wrong spelling; realised too late. I couldn't leave my house to go swear affidavit so I used my statement of result. There was also a mistake in my reference letter in terms of date. Wrote LOE and told CIC I couldn't leave that much carbon footprint just because I want to change date.
I broke a lot of "rules" and practically took a lazy approach. Different strokes for different folks.

ADR
I think this was a request for authorization form. That is, if you ticked that you want someone to have access to your file. Personally, I'd say, don't tick it if your contact isn't in Canada.

The wait...
We waited and waited and waited. I said I didn't care, I said I'll go off Nairaland and Canada Visa forum. I closed all tabs and reopened them again. I was completely surprised by my own reactions. The wait was so exhausting coupled with the fact that clients for some reason were scarce. I was at home, doing nothing so my mind had time to cook up plenty scenarios.

Our PPR
I really had calmed down and told myself that we'd pay rent which was due by the end of the month, we'd redo our medicals which was expiring in a few months and we'd move on with our lives whether PPR came or not. The only reason I feared a rejection was because of my husband who was working in a really toxic environment. I felt really bad seeing him leave for work all downcast and full of sighs.

I decided to check my application once a week (Wednesdays) just few weeks before that was when I saw my first ghost updates in months! I danced like David danced without shame and logic.

By the way I had mailed Ralph 30th July 2019. Reply was criminality passed, the rest not started. In my mind I was like, just get ready for 9+ months wait.

I raised third and final CSE same day? and got reply 1st August. Responsible officer is verifying if application meets eligibility requirements. Background verifications are in process.

I thought maybe Septemeber but it's here! Our PPR came hours after our ghost update by 21.59 pm? Me that used to believe I'll wake up to ease myself in the morning and see the email waiting for me. I just called my hubby when I saw it. He was already in bed. He was just asking "what is it?" And me I was saying "come now" with confidence.

We laughed, screamed, hugged and wondered if the email was fake since it looked so ordinary. I mean for something we had to wait for almost 7 months, the least they could have done is design the email with golden colours. smiley
Whatever the case it's been an eventful journey.

By the way, don't worry I'm summarising...

Our family and friends didn't know about our application! So when we broke the news to each person it was like fireworks. First I told my mum and she was just screaming and dancing that her daughter is going to obodo Oyibo. Then we told my parents-in-law and family. They were flabbergasted to say the least since we often come to them to support our big projects. They were even more excited because they had just been "refused" a Canadian visiting visa. My father in law gave my husband the beautiful winter coat he had bought for his trip. It was all so emotional! We simply didn't tell anyone because we didn't want the pressure! Intent to apply for Visa doesn't always equal eventual visa in my Husband's words.

My PPR is dedicated to YOU ALL. Thanks for all the encouragement and information.

Did I tell you one of my clients offered to process a German visa for me along with work during this process? I just remembered Ladymarshalls debate and told him "I'll think about it"...I'm still thinking about it smiley
@Ladymarshall we have to meet!

Summary of it all
Timeline: ITA: Novermber 2018, AOR January 2019, PPR August 2019
NOC: 4035? (sha secondary school teacher noc)
ECA: Wes, 2 Bs.c and one Master (5 months duration)

IELTS: First attempt: Me LRWS 8, 9, 8, 8.5 Hubby 8.5, 8.5, 7, 8.5.
I'm a Copywriter who studied English and communications. I have also worked with plenty Oyibo people and young Nigerian writers who make up my team...there really is a problem with our Nigerian writing. The most common I've dealt with are sentence ambiguity (mainly syntactical ambiguity, please look it up) Second is use of tenses then mechanical accuracy. If you can master these 3, you'd be fantastically fine.
Disclaimer: My grammar isn't that great.

Medicals: Qlife (Took a few hours)
PCC: Inspector Moshood
POF: Dorm Account
Proof of work experience: NYSC
Post-AOR/Waiting time: 6 Months 26 days?
COPR Pickup: September 9th

The Poem...( can't come and waste)

By the way I became a free verse poet during the wait...it's part of the story so enjoy!

The Curve
The idea...this is probably the most intriguing part of the getting Canada Visa. You've just heard and probably done some research on the Canadian Visa. You seem to have what it takes, you're very excited. You're happy that your family will finally have someone legally residing in Obodo Oyibo. You imagine yourself in the snow, you imagine your children with their oyinbo accent, you imagine having 24 hours light and an economy "that works"....exhilarating!

The Hmmm...
This is when you begin to take your first steps towards your Canadian dream. You have to deal with ECA, IELTS and everything in between. You're tired, you didn't imagine this journey would test your very core. For the first time, you begin to question if this whole Canada thing is worth the effort and resources. Can't I just start a business with this money? Hmmm...

Small Victories
Like Miners in a field, after months of gruelling hardwork, you're finally beginning to see some traces of gold; ECA done, IELTS scaled, ITA in the bag and somehow, the mountain of POF becomes a plain. You breath a small sigh of relief and once again, you can feel the cold from the Candian snow, even though all your windows are open and you're fanning yourself.

Winter is Coming?
Boy, the first time you heard that phrase you were excited, highly expectant and eagerly anticipating. It's more real than it has ever been. What would it look like? Will you be able to conquer Canada, the real North? You spend some time googling jobs, schools and apartments in Canada. You're so excited that you can't wait....or so you think.

You go on Nairaland, it's another PPR news and the celebrant got it in two months. Wow! You believe that's exactly how your story would play out. You've seen the signs. You dreamt about the VO saying "highly favoured one receive your PPR". You've sown a mighty seed to reduce the timeline, the guest pastor specifically called you out in church and told you "that thing you're looking for, God will do it in less than one month". You've made sure to tap and claim all short timelines on Nairaland. You've even bought an expensive plot of land at the beginning of the thread in I'll Announce my PPR in this Thread Estate.

2 months later, no update except for the usual Med and BiL. You're getting paranoid. You're beginning to have nightmares about a mistake in your application. You can't eat well, you can't sleep well, 4 hours of your daily work time is spent refreshing your Express entry profile. Even Casper the friendly ghost hasn't visited. What more? Family and friends are calling you with all sorts of prophesies and prayer points. Your parents are worried...has my child been duped? Because no matter how many times you explain, they can't understand how someone gets Canadian Visa by uploading papers on their computer and paying plenty money to an account they saw online.

The pressure is getting to you. You feel like you're going to explode into 10 million pieces if you wait one more day. You cry and ask God to make it happen this week...but it doesn't happen. It doesn't even happen the next month but without knowing it something about you has changed...

It's like you're becoming a Canadian without knowing it. You've become more patient and accepting of the fact that things follow certain processes and there's nothing you can do about it. You're been drained of your childish impatience in preparation for what lies ahead. You're more mature and spend your time doing more productive tasks rather than trying to decode IRCC.

And just when you've gotten into the new groove of calmness and maturity, beep, beep, Winter is here.

Post PPR - What lies ahead?
That, my dear friend, is your story to tell.

This is false, dangerous information that can get you banned for 5 years. There are no dire consequences of getting married post AOR. All you will need to do is inform IRCC evidence of your marriage and your husband will have to do medicals and the like (someone please correct me here)
Hiding information like this will do you more harm than good. Let us try and stop cutting corners with life changing actions/decisions

No, CES does not send any form of confirmation mail to your university. Assessment time is 12 weeks. You can check on your online profile to see how far they’ve gone.

Rasengan02:

Please do you know if CES sends some form of confirmation mail to the sending university? I have submitted and recieved confirmation of receipt from CES... and it's been a long wait since then. No update, nothing... Do you have any idea on what to do.

For Medicals, it is likely he'll travel down and book an hotel so he can arrive for medicals early.

It is called a budget Oga biko

If this was the case, then Canada would have been filled up by now and Naija would be empty.

or CRS would have been 600 by now cheesy

Fear Not!

Even those in Lagos sometimes check into nearby hotels in order to arrive early.

One will surely spend but just forget about the figures for now and take a little step at a time.

DESTINATION ON.....

Hi guys!

And so my last post was on getting hubby to rewrite IELTS after a not so good performance with his first attempt. Las las, hubby agreed to write and the second result was better than the first (LRSW - 6,6.5,7,6.5), but this only brought our score to 440. Mtcheww, so much for thinking that we could just jump to 447, but who 447 epp, after all the scores then was well beyond 450.

My ECA from WES turned out positive, and was ready on 29th May. I jumped into the pool same day, secretly praying and hoping for a miracle to happen, knowing that I only have 2 days to enjoy that score before baiday will come and make me cry on first day of June.

And so una sister was just singing and humming and praying like every five minutes. Surprisingly, Ontario held a targeted draw that night but I missed it narrowly (a NOC i had work experience in was picked, but I did not use that NOC as my primary NOC). By 12 midnight on 31st May, I was just hissing upandan because the 440 score we were trying to manage will come down to 435. Brethen, that is how una sister just lock up. I no bother check my EE profile again since then!

On 10th July I read a post where province of Ontario announced that it would begin Tech draws and would select from specific NOCs. I confimed this the following day after reading through OINP site. My people, I borrowed myself some sense and decided to change my primary NOC to one of the Tech NOCs I had work experience in.

On 12th July, while sleeping soundly on my way home after a hectic day at work, I just heard "kpen kpen". Something said I should check the email I had just received, another said I should just continue my sleep as it was sweeting me. After much struggle in that sweet sleep, I decided to open one eye to quickly check who the email came from, and that was how I saw, " You have a message in your EE account". Sleep disappeared sharply. I sat up and opened the message; Mama's got an NOI! and then I got really excited that the message was from province of Intario and I was thankful to God for the opportunity.

I put together all required documents and submitted my application to OINP on 19th August.

Current status - DIP

Now my wait begins...

Wish me luck guys!

I am not sure that's right..or if its that straight forward.dont misinform anyone oh..

LOL. The question asked was this.. Can I get married after AOR? and Are there any consequences?

You are probably assuming that he/she is currently married and only wants to declare that they're married after AOR. Which is misrepresentation.

The person in question is currently SINGLE and would apply as SINGLE. If this person gets married after submission/AOR, all they need to do is update CIC.
A slot/placeholder would be created for the spouse, additional documents would be requested (updated POF for two people, Medicals, etc)

Now look at this scenario and look at the answer you gave.

Bro, if I may ask, what negative effect can getting married post AOR have on one's application?

No, CES does not send any form of confirmation mail to your university. Assessment time is 12 weeks. You can check on your online profile to see how far they’ve gone.

Thanks for the info... I checked my dashboard today. Initial review hasn't started not to mention completion of initial review. It's almost 5 weeks now and I believe a form of movement should have occurred... Thanks once again
