Good evening my good people, Greetings to all Christians all over the world. I WISH YOU HAPPY EASTER AND I PRAY THAT THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS WILL NOT BE IN VAIN OVER OUR LIFE.
I have been so busy nowadays, the cucumber project really took much of our time that we nearly forget we still have some other project neglected, in short this cucumber of a plant require too much time and care. For the past two weeks we are so busy staking our yam (just 6plots).
And mind you we still have the seed yam project, pepper and Golden Mellon. The major problem is that we don't have enough hands,to get farm worker this days is not easy, most of our youth are not ready to get their hands dirty but dey won ride vensa. By God grace later today or tomorrow I will create another trend for seed yam production (stay tune).
I GREET THOSE THAT KEEP CALLING AND SENDING SMS..MISS YOU ALL.
I won't mind working for you. I need a mentor

I think fertilizer expiration can only affect organic based fertilizer not in organic,I am not too sure but bags of granular npk fertilizer don't have best dates on them,I have a friend that used 4 yrs expired Plantzyme fertilizer by biostadt and will swear that it worked.note that Plantzyme is seaweed extract.

I just read this thread from page 1 to the end...
And I must say I've learnt alot from everyone especially you op

I'm not sure theres any other thread on this forum as educative as this thread on pepper farming

I recently bought one acre of land in ogun state.... I bought this land for the purpose of pepper farming.. I've done alot of research on pepper farming.. but sadly I have no experience.. I'd love to visit your farm just to learn a thing or two from you.. I currently live in abeokuta okelantoro area...

you could have saved yourself unnecessary stress by putting organic manure first before sowing, spraying chemicals on young plants is not always a good idea, you can still amend the nursery by using pig manure dissolved in water for at least 3 days and poured on the nursery, after that use knapsack filled with water to wash the seedlings leafs.i said pig manure for a reason,if you use chicken manure it may not end well.
Good day to all in the house.
I have been a silent mentee of this thread and do appreciate the contributions of all in increasing our knowledge base.
@Okoroemeka, please what variety of pepper is most favoured in the eastern market - avenir, efia or Cameroonian yellow pepper for commercial production and marketing?

An acre for a start?

Why not try small and scale up.

Don't be deceived nor carried away by paper projections on profitability of pepper littered here and there.

Try it first. Know your market and other unforseen circumstances like disease outbreak.

Make you no go lose your capital.

My candid advice

Well I did put that into consideration... but I had to make a different choice.. since I'll also be employing a farm manager.. who lives at the community where the farm will be established .....

Besides that what I want right now is experience

I dobt want to feel like I have to rely on the farm manager for everything... infact... I dont want him to know I have no experience in farming.. hes from kotonu border area.. and he have decided to relocate to ogun state just for this project

.

Gather the experience doing it yourself, that's the best. Read stuffs online.

Add cucumber too

Better returns and short maturity period.

I am a new member in this forum. I have been enjoying the conversation here for some days now. I will soon be a retiree. What about security of the pepper. Because it will be very expensive to fence one or two acres of land

Good evening sir , I don't think you have to fence the whole farm for security, thieve will only harvest to eat ,it will take many hours to harvest acres of land,so don't worry about that too much sir.whenever I'm planting I always believed 0.005℅ for thieves and animals

You can call for your Fermented Rabbit Urine (FRU)and rabbit poo.
Both are organic fertilizers that the intelligent farmers are using this days to cut their expenses and experience bountiful yield.

I like you mindset Sir, I had the same earlier this year. Had an acea of land proposed for Pepper, but I have less than half a plot that survived. My discovery and recommendations are:

1) Think and plan big

2) Read and learn wide

3) Be ready to experiment

4) Never be far from your pepper farm ( if you really want to learn)

5) The Farm manager should do maintenance work majorly while you spear head the project.

6) Pepper farming requires real patience and a never give up spirit

7) Learn how to Nurse your pepper yourself and do so ( only buy seedlings from reliable and trustworthy farmers, as it's different for a novice farmer to differentiate the specie of young pepper plants)

the shape, size of Efia habanero is the most commonly available pepper in the market called rodo or danjarawa, avenir is bigger and scotch bonnet but due to it's big size and crazy yield it beats every other pepper in yield,if it's topped and properly managed

all heirloom varieties are the same, even if it's technisem,East West or nihort, the difference is the packaging,it's when you go for hybrids that's when you see big difference in vigour, growth, yield, etc
