Well, you are right. A bad seat belt lock does not mean a bad airbag.

But, a bad seat belt lock could prevent your airbags from deploying properly if in an accident.
So, whenever the SRS system detects a malfunction in the seat belt lock, it will throw you a code and illuminate the airbag light.

First, try remove your battery head for few minutes maybe it would reset the system, if it doesn't work, then you'll need a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code.
