You have to be a real hip hop lover to appreciate mode..
What makes it Rap...., PUNCHLINES, METAPHOR, WORDPLAYS, CYPhER, MODE 9 infuses all., I used to remember listening to Mode 9 with my dictionary beside me.

Go listen to “ Tales of the pot” on Da Vinci mode album or “Ogun Isoye” on E pluribus Umum album and also appreciate his story telling on a track as well.

MI is more of a commercialized rapper , hence the crowd appeal , Vector was more raw , but sad his career never got to its destination.

Since MI was made CEO of Chocolate city, there’s no rapper he can boast of signing or grooming, even the existing rapper or do I say wannabe rapper on the label “Ice Prince” , started going the commercial path and has tanked ever since., instead he signed singers , such as Koker , Victoria Kimani and a host of others., to show he never even believed in the Rap industry in Naija.
Loose Kaynon with so much prospect back then never came alive ., really sad


MI’s best work has been on his Mixtapes ,especially Illegal Music II, and not even his Albums

Rap music is dead and buried on the Nigerian music scene for hip hop heads like me , a few can testify to that too.. so it’s best they squash their beef, or keep em coming, they know better.

But the undisputed still remains MODE9 period

Hennessey has had all d biggest rappers on it.. just dis year over 2,000 rappers were screened for d upcoming 10 years anniversary in Dec. Vector did that with Ycee, Ikechukwu n others.. I have followed d Hennessey cypher for years n I know its d biggest cypher in Nigeria.. Reminisce n Zoro joined last year.. Falz, Illbliss, Ycee,Ice Prince, Dremo, Poe, Muna, Wale Turner n so on av been there.. I can't count.. MI is only pained coz he feels he should av gotten d Hennessey deal.. In the eyes of an average listener, em won due to sentiments and juveniles that knows nothing about the rap game. Which fact the em address? Is it the fact that he was blackballing and shading him using the record label and Paul Rosenberg? Or the fact that em has not visited 8th mile for the fear of being shot or the the fact that he pays private security company for protection? Or the fact that his last good album was recovery? Slim shady is supposed to be a mentor and role model to young rappers not an enemy. Mgk was his top fan but got disappointed with him. Rap devil was not a demolishing diss track but a lamentation of a pissed Stan. Em should hang the mic!!

Because for me, rap is about wordplay, metaphors and lyrics fuses into rhymes and done flawlessly. The faster, the better.

And the best part is..double entendres. A line having two meanings both of which make meaning to the subject matter.

Examine this part of VEC's verse in Distractions (Reminisce diss)

'You hold your career with my bars you gon' make no bail'
'Your CDs like abandoned ships, they make no sail'
You wann' cry lil fish, you're gon' cry lil fish, you tryna be the big fish, I can help you whale'

bars in the first refer to both his lines and prison bars however you reason it.
Sail in the second is a wordplay on 'sale' of the CDs.
'Whale' in the third is a wordplay on 'wail' as per person wey wan diss am.

Bro, listen to this and how he does that effortlessly on the mic with almost every verse. Hidden meanings everywhere.

It's quite brash to assume all that analyses by different persons from all over was my opinion but I'ld like a link to the hotnewhiphop page. Would be nice to see contemporary views properly analysed.

As for MGK's disappointment, let's hope it motivates him to keep going. Em helped his career by giving him a reply.
