The panel as brilliant as it was had terms of reference to adhere to. Who know know how meat disappers from the mouth. When they want to do their dirty work, they put southerner as the head of the panel with his hands tight. Same thing is happening now but because majority if us are not children of Isaaca, they do not understand the signs of time. Thank you n good morning.
Look at what Buahri is doing in the Sowore case.

The First Judge is Yoruba (mrs Ojo), the second Judge of the second case is Igbo (Mrs Ojukwu) but the Prosecutors (DSS representative) in each case is a Northerner!
Do you remeber that when Buhari was sick and the DSS problem that led to the sack of the Director (Mr Oke (Yoruba), a new DSs dDirector was appointed by VP Osinbajo. th eperson appointed was the most senior person and next to the man who was relieved of the post.
That man was a Southerner.
Immediately Buahri returned, he removed the man for no single reason other than he was a Southerner and replaced him with the current Northerner.
It is that Northerner that is prosecuting Sowore, a Southerner, for TREASON, right now.

If a man that is protesting with placards can be arrainged for Treason, but the Fulanis and other Northerners that have been arrested for kidnapping, Murder and other capital offenses are either being set free, being rewarded with #100Billion or being integrated into the Nigerian Armed Forces.
When you ask them why, they will tell you that the Niger Delta was also granted AMNESTY but is the situation of this criminals from the North, the same with the 'freedom struggle" of the Niger Delta?
Is it not a Northerner that killed Ken Saro Wiwa, killed Abiola, killed Dele Giwa, e.t.c
How many Northern elites have been killed like that, by those in govt?

It will be very interesting if come 2023, if these Southerners still vote for a Fulani Northerner, for President.

Abuja can still be renamed by going back to the original names suggested by the committee members as directed by General Mohammed Muritala which will not have any coloration of any tribe because be more authentic and Muritala will be happy where ever he is if the Nigerian government remembering him is done in all honesty . My hero, IBB, unfortunately, health wise, you can't say much, you would have been in a position to upturn the name Abuja because you were mainly part of it. We are talking, the original owners of the land according to them are still not settled in all ways.

Imagine Lagos as the federal capital today and the first thing that will come to mind is how congested and insecure it will be because of over population.
Don't make it look like it was a bad decision altogether just because it was made by a Nigerian of northern descent.

Abuja has come to stay. Too late to complain now.

The current thing is that one Mesoma is making Nigeria proud and will continue to do so with your support.

I solicit your support in voting for Mesoma in an art contest in which she’s the only Nigerian participating.

Mesoma is studying Architecture but with passion for arts and designs.

Please follow below link and vote for Mesoma. The voting ends on 13th October 2019 and you are permitted for one vote every day till the 13th.

okay let me give a different view from Kennedy’s cabal theory.

Lagos was congested and due to the nature of the terrain, it was difficult to expand and have the kind of infrastructure that was envisaged. Abuja in the center of the country has virtually limitless land for expansion. World class infrastructure has been built but has fallen into disrepair due to poor maintenance and planning culture.

Security was also a nightmare due to the congestion. There had been 2 assassinations of the President already and 4 changes of government in violent ways. It was believed that there was a need to have a better position for the seats of government. The seat of government in Abuja is in a wide expanse of land where movement around the whole city can be monitored. There has never been violent transfer of power since the capital moved in 1993.

Lagos was deeply entrenched in the heartland of one of the main ethnic groups in Nigeria and there was no chance it was going to loosen up. Contrary to the widely held belief in the South of Nigeria, Abuja is not Hausa land but the minority Gwari tribe. Igbo people from South of Nigeria are now the largest land holders in Abuja.

The 70s was a time of Black/African renaissance and the belief that the black man had a great manifest destiny was still alive. Abuja was therefore conceived of as a City that will be a showpiece and pride of the Black race.

If the cabal was all about regionalism and tribalism, Kaduna would have been the choice of the new Capital not Abuja.

. President Gen Murtala Mohammed conceived the idea in 1978 .He wanted a central place for the capital of Nigeria.Abuja is central and nobody s land then. President Babangida implemented it in 1991. Regrettably all federal capital projects were abandoned...National theatre Iganmu. National Stadium Surulere and so on....

wirinet:
The main reason the capital was moved from Lagos was mainly security. Security of the government against coups and security of the country against foreign invasion.
The seat of government Dondan Barracks and State house (marina) were security nightmares. It was very prone to coups as it is surrounded by Two major Barracks - Bonny camp and Dodan Barracks. All a soldier has to do to overthrow the government was to take control of the two Barracks in a lightening strike.

Another major disadvantage of Lagos as the seat of government is that it is too close to the sea. An advanced navy could sneak into the marina with a submarine undetected and overthrow the government with special forces, while an aircraft carrier wait off the coast to begin a full invasion. An invasion could be carried out within a few hours. Remember, Saddam Hussain sacked the Kuwaiti seat of government within 12 hours of invasion.

Another problem with Lagos was that it was easy to isolate the seat of government from the rest of the country. Just blow up the bridges that connect the Lagos island from the mainland and the government would be isolated. It would be impossible to bring in troops to repel an attack on the seat of government.
One of the smartest comment I have read on NL.

The OP's submissions are valid and it was a decision that bore all semblance of correctness.
Coastal (easy to be subject to attack),
Infrastructural expansion deficit, and
Dominance of a particular major ethnic group, having just come out from a civil war.
The exact reasons why Brazil moved from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia.

Moreover, they wanted a central rallying point for the country, hence Abuja.

The man who headed the panel that decided it was Abuja wasn't a Northerner...he is Yoruba, Justice Akinola Aguda.

The panel concluded its work and submitted to the then Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed who announced it 7 days before his assassination.

PS:
The capital moved to Abuja from Lagos on the 12th of December 1991 and not in 1993.

He overthrown Gowon in 1975 and his administration didnt last past a year before OBJ took over.

Fear of coup and inability to loot. Lagos was always a place of vibrant political activity and the people always demand equity and justice. Protests could easily break out, successful ones. Making it harder for thieves in government to get away with evil. It was also susceptible to successful coups...

It is central, well befitting for a capital

Lagos has no business being a capital city

The small congested slave camp become a capital cause it was a portal for the Demons from Britain

Abuja has NOT "fallen into disrepair". If anything it has been wonderfully maintained considering the dire predictions by naysayers of yesteryear, that the city would turn a slum. That hasn't happened, but it hasn't stopped your type from inventing stories of "disrepair".

No city can look "brand new" forever, so long as you have millions of people in it.
