Well, it is a relatively novel device so it may be argued that it is in principle an invention. Even though his creativity and altruism deserves some accolades, making news out of this nonetheless speaks volumes of our technological backwardness in all honesty. How could we be celebrating a device that is definately operating on an already established and documented refrigeration cycle, whose power source was probably just replaced with an already invented and implemented solar panel? shocked

If it was indeed an invention, where is the patent? Does he care to show us the engineering diagram...even if privately so we could inspect and possibly give him his accolades due?

Abeg, I am not bad belle o, I just want to check something...

I agree. Questions are:

Has the device been in circulation in the north?
Did it serve the intended purpose?

Good but let us not call it invention or innovation its a DIY

Meet The Nigerian Corps Member Who Invents A Solar-powered Vaccine Cooler

Man’s world can be best described as a system that comprises of several episodes of problems and challenges and technology has always proven to supply cutting-edged solutions to aid the smooth running of lives and activities, thereby making life and living more suitable and interesting.

A brilliant project was carried out by Aderogba Timothy Ayooluwa, KB/18C/0814 who served with the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State. As a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, he stated that he had his option in Energy Technology, and some years of experience in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning). This cumulated to spurring him towards undergoing the project after he discovered the dire need in the community he was posted to serve.

According to Timothy, the National Programme on Immunisation (NPI), Birnin Kebbi Office had been trying their very best in meeting up with the Immunization needs of the community. They are however often limited in their reach; as these vaccines easily lose some potency before the immunization exercise is fully covered due to temperature. He discovered this problem when he was assigned by his Group Community Development Service (Editorial CDS) to cover the Health news bit during the immunization exercise held in February 2019.

Timothy came to the realization that there is the need to have a system to keep the vaccines at the desired cold temperature over a longer period of time; and this led him to start the project.

The Vaccine Cooler he named “TimseVac” would be useful for the purpose of vaccination outreach; especially to local and remote areas.

The Project was tested at the National program on Immuization Birnin Kebbi Office on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019; and it was officially commissioned on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 at the State Secretariat Conference Hall, Gwadangaji, Birnin-Kebbi. Dignitaries, including representative of the NYSC Zonal Inspector and Local Inspector, were present at the occasion.

Everything about this is just exciting until I got to the last paragraph. Why do we like celebrating mediocrity in Nigeria. If it was BBN now we will all be there, them remove Eagles from world cup we will welcome them at the airport and so many other irrelevant things. Now someone made a landmark achievement it was only celebrated by dignitaries, something that should be a national thing with immediate employment and scholarship. Meanwhile someone spent 99 days doing nonsense and got 60 million. I swear ehn most of us in Nigeria are mad something very potent and deadly is affecting our brain. I wish I can slap somebody now. Worst of all, the ZI (ZGI) and LI (LGI) can can't even attend but sent representative. Kai I am just livid right now

Congratulations.
But he didn't invent anything oo unless the meaning of invention has changed.

Invention doesn't mean you have to create something new totally from scratch. You can combine available resources and make them available for use in a different, new and dynamic way. Kudos to the guy! Let's encourage this

All the technology we are using today is as a result of thousands of years of hardwork and researches by the past scientists, so does it mean we don't have inventors among our scientists today? No

I do not want to be a party killer but how is that small solar panel able to power that box or feed a battery pack that powers that box. It all looks like a cheap scam to me.

Afonja youth and their awkward invention

It amazes me that NOBODY in the WHOLE of Africa did, could do, or has done what these guys did 200 years back.
Yet we have mouth to buy latest android and iPhone. Not you nor ANYBODY in whole Africa, joined wood together to form a circle, A WHEEL that is the basis of modern industry.
Ask you grand and great grand parents. They were all walking about on foot. TILL white man came and showed us cars. Now, na to dey import and buy.
When will we make our own?

The right word to use is 'develop'. The term 'invent' is best reserved for things that do not exist hitherto. Solar powered devices of every kind exist in the market.

Anyway, good work.

Kudos to them but truth be told, there was no invent here just DIY like someone noted. This is what we teach kids here in Abuja.
Normal Peltier module, a microcontroller board and a solar module.
