Medicos in the house I greet u all.

A friend of mine just gained admission to study medicine in a state university, she told me it was mainly through connection as she didn't beat the cutoff.she had 255 in jamb but I dunno about her postutme score, just that she didn't beat cutoff.
Problem is that she told me she's scared because of the fact that she didn't make it on merit, because we all know how hard med school is,she feels she's not intelligent enough to study medicine, but she has passion for it and that's what she really wants to study.she feels that people who get 280+ in jamb are the ones smart enough to study medicine

Please any advice for her?

She's more than good to go.

Let her exorcise her fears now as it can be her Achilles heel.

You don't need to be very intelligent to study medicine.

Cutoffs for medicine being high is not a pointer to how hard it is to study(its hard though) but how competitive it is.

All she needs is above average cognitive capacity and she's obviously good to go there.

She's gonna witness many jamb and pume smashers fail out especially during 2nd MB.

It's all about working around the clock(hard and smart) and seeking the advice of her seniors that navigated the path she's treading now successfully.

TESTIMONY TIME !!!!!!!!!!

I want to use this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone here especially Dr lagusta and other pioneer Bosses who kick-started this thread.

I had given up on studying medicine after staying back home for almost 5 yrs due to financial issues.

I visited Nairaland once in a while but never discovered this thread until last year, accidentally even.

I had just finished 100l in a biological course after getting admission in 2017 when things turned a corner for us financially.

I was generally unhappy with my life and was bordering on acute depression back then, until I saw myself here unintentionally.

The posts I came across here and the diaries that I read( and still following) lit a fire under my belly and I started believing that i could really pull this off inspite of me being a shadow of my Secondary school self academically.

I decided to give it my last shot and by the grace of God and with the help of most people here(bulk of them unknowingly) I am now a fresh medical student in Enugu State University (Esut) by Merit.

I will forever remain grateful to God and my Messiahs here.

Special mention goes to:

And many others( can't remember all their monikers), in fact everyone here played a pivotal role in my success, even those I kinda ruffled with, I learned from all of it and will make sure I put all I've learnt here to great use.

PS: I have a new account now (Medicblaze), this should my last post with this very one.
Clean slate.

Hmm
Whether she gained addmissio thru connection or not isn't the problem here, the problem is she needs to have a proper mindset before resuming med school.
Medicine is not for the faint hearted and it's also not exclusively for people with 300+ in utme.
Consistency, Smart work, banking on seniors will help her alot.
Surviving in med sch is the koko not how she got in please. Tell her to start believing in herself and work on improving her flaws... If she can't let her drop and pave way for others, because is is total regret knowing she can't but forced her way in.

Please, I would like to hear from you guys about Medicine and Surgery D.E into OAU or any federal other school. Actually, I've finished my service year and I graduated from OOU with 3.85 cgpa in Anatomy.

Please what are the things to consider because I would like to put in for next year D.E and OOU is out of the equation.

Please, your response will be appreciated.

First of all, congrats to her, it's not easy irrespective of how she got in.

Secondly, It's good she's evaluating herself and all. Truth is, this a clean slate for every single one of them. Past glory like jamb scores no longer counts, what does is how hard everyone works in the coming days. And UTME has never been a true test of knowledge or ability, in fact it's doesn't count for anything in med school.

Thirdly, she should forgo the thought that she isn't good enough. Sure, she didn't get in by merit, but this is an opportunity to prove her worth, not to anyone else but to herself, that she can be a great doctor.

Finally and most importantly, med school has never been about brilliance. Sure, a high IQ is a plus but there's so much more. Med school is a lot of hard work and even more smart work. If you slack for a minute, irrespective of how brilliant you are, the hammer would fall on you. So she should work her hardest, because that's what everyone here does, both the highest jamb scores and the lowest, everyone works hard.

She'll be fine provided she knows why she's there and doesn't quit because her score isn't as fancy as the rest, but if truly she feels she isn't up to the task(because it's daunting as hell), she'd be better finding passion somewhere else. Failing out of med school is a huge emotional expense people hardly recover from. she had better be in it to ace it or not be in it at all

Hello everyone, please i need your advice here. I am 25 i just finished my BMLS programme. I was intending to study medicine from the start at LAUTECH. After beating cut off and the the likes during that year, unfortunately, there was no admission to study medicine due to accreditation issues then. I was forced to study MLS due to the fact that i entered through pre-degree. Now that I finished my BMLS program, my passion for medicine has not ceased. I have not gone for my internship as part of BMLS program yet.
My question is can i apply in any school to study medicine through D.E (Note, i only have my statement of result yet ) or I should start all over and write jamb and utme. I will appreciate meaningful contributions. Thanks very much.

BMLS is a good course but since it's about passion, you will have to go for your NYSC first cos some schools require it for direct entry admission.

If u want to start from 100lv, you can decide to sit for this next jamb and ace it.

Statement of result will do even if u don't have your certificate yet. They may request for your transcript too but u need to have ur NYSC discharge certificate first.

Good luck.
