True...menial jobs abound. No one is saying we shouldn't sweep carpets or scrub chimneys...it's just that if even after getting a PhD and written loads of publications one can't get a job tailored in his field at a whim despite efforts put in (time and moneywise) then Its ghastly disappointing for that quality education without networking. Moreso disappointing to see the system is deliberately putting that get a job in your field in 18months.

I know IT dude's are hotcake but even that is beside the point.

May God see us through

It seems you know one or two people who didn't get a job after studying?, so could you tell me what course they studied?.

Living here and with what I've experienced, I know people who study courses that aren't lucrative find it hard to get a job here after studying.

And you don't necessarily need networking to get a job here tbh.

I personally know a PhD student, who has a job waiting for him after his PhD and he doesn't know how to speak German. And no he's not in the IT field. And his publication isn't even out yet.

If you do the right thing, you can get a job in 18 months. By doing the right thing, I mean studying the right course, learning German and having good grades!.

My brother, thank you. If I raise the issue of under employment in Canada,it will be as if I am discouraging people from migrating to Canada.
Let him ask anyone in Toronto about this saying "the safest place to have an heart attack,is in a taxi cab because it is most likely that your cab driver is a foreign trained medical doctor"!

No matter where you are,as long as you are connected to the system, and you have already signed an MOU with your village people, forget it,things will be alright though it might take time.

In the German speaking world, the only way to earn their respect,is to work twice harder them though, you may be recognized as a quarter as good as them!

If I tell you stories that I heard in the past of how African students were pampered by the university, but they messed up. We are the ones now suffering for their sins,on top of prevalent racism. This is why we are pushing to change the narrative that black African students are useless. How can a student be receiving 500euros monthly, and still refuse to go to class? Then, when the system retaliate, people will be shouting racism!

Make everybody use him head in order not to spoil the chances of those coming behind them! Nigeria don cast, and is now Buhari's cowlony. Any opportunity to learn new skills that comes to you, grab it by the balls and squeeze the hell out of it!

Gbam!!!. That's why i said it's not for the lazy ones!.

It's common sense that as a black person you have to work twice as much to prove yourself. That's the reality you have to accept.

How will someone take semester break here to learn the language and end up not learning the language. When it's time to get a job and German is required, they will blame the system but you had time to learn the language and you didn't!.

Please I have some questions
janettee:
Most Nigerian students have a job even before graduating here, some got a job in their field while still studying .

The only few people I know who had a hard time here getting a job after studying are those who who don't know how to speak German.

If you study some courses, you don't necessarily need to know the German language. People in IT can get a job without knowing how to say 'hello' in German.

I hardly know anyone who studied here who isn't doing well in their field. It isn't all that rosy though wink.

And that's why it's good to always research before studying any course here, some courses aren't just lucrative in DE. Apply to study in big cities, where getting a job wouldn't be difficult. Don't just apply to any city for the sake of studying here. I'm saying this cause I have a friend who lives in a big city and she made three thousand euros a month after tax working during the holidays. And she made this while doing the so called 'menial jobs'. And oh, she doesn't know how to speak German wink.

I hate when people talk about menial jobs as if it's a bad thing to do. If after graduating and one couldn't find a job or needs to learn German, what's wrong in doing a menial job for the time being?.

Most Nigerians here do menial jobs and it's a fact, I don't see anything wrong with it undecided. Nigerian students or even German students themselves do menial jobs while still studying till they are ready to work in their field.

If you are not ready to do a menial job at least for once, then Germany isn't for you, sorry!. These menial jobs have enabled men to bring over their wives and children to Germany, so you can't tell me nothing!.

Yes it's abroad but it's not meant for you if you are lazy and too proud to do a menial job!.

Spot on!

If you are from arts or social sciences, then you have to prepare to go the extra mile to achieve your German dream, because you have German natives and other EU graduates jostling for the same job with you.
From my exeperience, there is what they call "Mangelberuf", = "understaffed profession, if you course does not fall into this category, you are will be at the bottom of the food chain.

Guy what's your actual problem I'll need you to tell me

The Nigeria you are in how wonderful is your life?
Which country is perfect?

The Canada you mentioned let me tell you a funny fact they hardly employ without"Canadian experience" Same as Australia and the countries you say offer better. But you've never been there neither have you graduated from Germany to be doing menial Jobs. People know what they want here don't give them your useless and unwanted advice . The guy didn't even quote you
You just came and added some gibberish.

You just come on here and spew whatever you like please I hate it and a lot of guys have complained to me personally.

Newbies see your message and feel withdrawn
Please stop all this your downplaying talks about Germany if you don't wanna go there and keep your thoughts to yourself
Out of all the good stories here you only say negative things abeg it's enough for you . Your attitude really pissed me off today I must say.
Just go back your normal BBN talk abeg.

Just look at how youve derailed that thread. If You want to understand the genesis of the talk on this thread come here and start from where I praised germany for having quality education. Why this thing is paining you further serves to prove that its nothing but the truth that its whats happening there.

Talking about Nigeria abeg no make me laugh.

I've never said you shouldn't encourage ppl in your inner circles to go out there and flip burgers...I'm just saying that the caveat of getting pr from getting a job in your field after study pretty much 18months after graduating is really rare.

Neither have I said Canada is all glory and flowing with honey. What I even said about Canada was that it would have been far fortunate to escape with the express entry to Canada and do menials than to get stuck up in Deutschland. Why?! Because you get almighty PR while landing. And passport after 3yrs.
If it wasn't the truth...You won't be so vexed or bothered about ppl I might be discouraging cos you'll have been laughing it off.
You think I'm happy that Germans are so discriminatory like this? Haba! !

The reason why your obviously vexed by this is cos you didn't ask questions only to be humiliated with the truth on arrival

peace

Be like you'll need to calm down.. The menial jobs are not bad. Stop misunderstanding ppl. Shey nah English be your problem sef

Stop derailing that thread...there are jobs in Deutschland but you'll hardly find in your area of specialization finish

This is the basic problem of most Nigerians. They generalize issues.

In the last two months, I have been in Huelva, Spain, Grenoble,France,Aalto, Finland, Leuven, Belgium and just returned from the EIT Alumni Meeting at Budapest,Hungary, all paid for by the European Union. Just google the cost of a night at Barcelo Budapest! Other Nigerian and Benin Republic students were there too.

It was all due to networking, and not because of anything spectacular about my grades!

Thanks for your write up
I researched online for needed skilled jobs in Germany and i saw IT, Electronics/electrical, nursing etc
Please i will like to ask what is the renewable market like in Germany, can one easily get a job after graduation.
I will appreciate answers from experienced people thank you..

Some people have already explained the basic facts we need. Getting job is all about God favour but then your course is also something to consider, that's why its better to start from your B.sc in Deutschland.

I know a Cameroonian who got a job with the almighty AIRBUS immediately after his B.sc at HAW, all the fact is that you should do more research.

Do you know about propadeütikum? its not all about your studies, as you said, one also need skills.

Again, my cousin graduated from the same school with his friend marshal. Marshall got his job barely 3month after graduation with almighty BMW as automobile engineer with start pay of €4060 per month. My cousin who studied international journalism and politics only got a small job with a news paper company as a journalist earning less than 2500€ after tax. This was to get an experience. He took a study leave and went for masters upon graduation, he got a job with Deutsche welle (German biggest broadcasting firm) he also got an offer from two firms In Austria.

So, please let's look beyond the circle
in Europa gibt es viele Möglichkeiten cool

Now look at this

AIRBUS- a Cameroonian

BMW-marshall (Nigerian)

DEUTSCHE WELLE- my cousin

Just do your research very well, this companies are amongst the biggest in germany. Tell Dennis to pray for God's favour.

Nigerian in germany and those hoping to be there, we shall dominate German workforce bei Gnade Gottes

I personally came to study and I did not work throughout my first semester; concentrated on learning German and studies, and I can say that I completed 37.5 credits with good grades last semester as well as a reasonable level of German now (I start B1 next week). So please, in as much as there are exceptions, many people do not come here to "make it big", at least not while they/we are still students...

And how will a graduate of history (or was it philosophy) know details of other sectors (z.B., the IT sector)? I have a very good friend, also a Nigerian, who finished from my program and got a job less than 3 months later, with no knowledge of German (I still yab him till tomorrow how he lived in Germany for 3 years without learning the language) in Kiel, a relatively hard-life-without-German city. Was sagst du dazu?

Chemnitz is just a calm and cheap city. Gets hot when the citizens feel uncomfortable.

For student life based on job; you have high chances of getting a 450€ job easily if you don't have German knowledge. If you are well skilled in IT and based on your course you can get a werkstudent position in some companies around. Sometimes people get lucky with their lecturers and get a student assistant position. Other jobs are in close by cities like the state capital(dresden) and leipzig.

For student life based on activities;
You will meet nice and friendly people but also you'll meet few hostile ones. Based on your personality you can never be bored because the Nigerian guys here organise activities occasionally. Most times(when not exam period) they gather in school field to play ball and laugh away boredom.

For student life based on school work;
The same as other cities.

For student life based on expenses;
It depends on your spending habit but apart from monthly dorm fee which is within 170 - 260€, health insurance 92€(TK) and radio fee 17€, a 70€ visit to penny or edeka for food stuff should take you a through the month. Addition expenses come ones in a while.

For the FAM: I got across to a couple of folks at Bayreuth, and these are what they have to say...

###

"Hello,

On getting a job, I am sure you will find one. But if you are thinking of a Research Assistant job, that will depend on your supervisor if he/she wants to hire you. For the most part, students on an MA program usually have jobs outside the university. The jobs are there, and foreign students are not barred from working.

The city of Bayreuth is small, compared to big cities like Berlin, Dortmund, Munich, etc. But it is peaceful and the people are receptive to strangers (for those who are law-abiding). So far, I have not had any cases of harassment from anyone or the Police. The standard of living in the city is also ok, house rent is also cheaper compared to bigger cities. You can acculturate better depending on your own social life.

Unlike PhD candidates who are registered for automatic apartment, getting accommodation for MA students can be hard at first. Yet, with time (at least between 1-4weeks), you will surely get it depending on your budget.

The other information I could give you is to connect with other Nigerians in the city on MA programs. They are more likely to guide you better on getting accommodation and Jobs in the city, because they went through these experiences.

###

On your accommodation, if you have registered with the studentenwerk, then no problem. That is the first step. You are going to get accommodation from them, although it might not be easy to get it on time depending on other factors. If your budget is around 180-240Eur for the apartment, it is ok. You will find one in that range (mind you, be ready for other expenses like water, electricity and internet bills. Depending on what you consumed per month, and the fee you will pay for the apartment, you should not be paying more than 230 in the 'cheapest' flat for students. Again, this amount is subject to your monthly consumption).

With regards to the job, as I said earlier, you will get it...

Well, I don't follow the discussion on Nairaland. My advice to you is to have an open mind when you arrived in Germany. Even though some of the negative things being said about the country are true, they can also be misleading.

###

Bayreuth is a small but nice city. Living standard is cheaper compared to big cities like Munich..."

###

Good luck, everyone!

In every top G20 country, that is the koko of the future, but it depends on the politics too because energy transition is on going, with varying level of support from the govt. But my opinion is that the focus is more on research and innovation than on actual operations because, many companies are still finding their feet due to low subsidies when compared to fossil fuel companies.
Just my two cents.

I find your post amusing and irritating at the same time. There is a difference between seeking for information and wrong analysis of gathered data. You keep talking from both sides of your mouth, posting diatribes and making snide remarks. It is only a man who can not get a match ticket or purchase fuel for his generator that will demean the El Classico or the World Cup final!
It is similar to standing at the pearly gates and tell saints not to enter heaven because some sinners have been forgiven, and are already in heaven! Where you want them to go? Remain in a Nigerian hobessian society, where life is short and brutish, because Germany weeds out the smart from the good and average?
Ever read the Aesop fable of the fox and the grapes?

1. This thread is for students. Are you a student?
If yes,
2. This thread is meant for those ALREADY studying in Germany, and are sharing their experience. Are you studying in Germany? What experience do you have to share, with dates, locations, university, and course of study?
If yes,
My advice is simple: pack your bags and return to the cowlony where everybody is a criminal according to Falz, a country where all the youths are lazy according to Buhari, and the people don't know what hunger is,according to the Agriculture Minister!
Leave others to suffer in Germany. They are not complaining. They like am!
My advice to all: It is either you travel or reserve that money to pay for ransom when kidnapped.

Nah nah this thread is specifically a question and answer session btw ppl in germany and folks in nigeria. Not necessarily only for ppl based in Deutschland. You might want to look at the signpost on your way out the thread. Youll notice its a question m8 lol

You know what's funny grin

You guys think I'm antigermany grin

The lot of you even stopped quoting me, even Jane.

But I've never for once said ppl shouldn't go to Germany. Hell bruh, I'm still here despite knowing all of this.
I've never for once said living there is pointless.
You guys think I'm discouraging ppl on bases of making money when I mention dudes flip burgers out here for a living when what i mean is ppl ought to do diligence to know what to expect before landing deutschland lol.
What im really just against is the fact that there is a gross misconception of the statement on their immigration policy especially on that how to make it in germany website where ppls eyes feast on day in and day out.

Student migrants rush there in hopes that when dey are done dey quickly land a job in their fields within that 1.5yrs and qualify for permanent residency and begin the ladder to citizenship. This is a fantasy for most.
Its surprising to know that these ppl need us foreigners to survive as a culture because dey are a dying race; yet dey leave that sentence unattended to. What should really be there is, "if and only if you land a job btw 1.5 yrs in your field of study after masters are you now entitled to a permanent residence status and can begin your steps to the German passport."

Again what that website and daad wont also tell everybody is that as far back as 2010 roughly a negligible amount of ppl "2000" landed pr yearly as against the hundreds of thousands that flocked into the country under the impression of the dream. Very saddening one can't even substantiate if the numbers have improved or worsened since then. Even German citizens find it insanely difficult to get jobs after master's in their field more so a foreigner.

I also guess it's no ones fault when dey end up being among the 99.8% of ppl on the short end of the stick, yearly cos most of them didn't decide to dig deep enough, old friend.

Life in germany is not bad at all. Heck It's a beautiful country with loads of beer.

Everywhere this issue is raised netizens go wild and scream fowl that it cannot be. Germany works lol. But none of ehmm come down with facts and figures to show proof that ppl are achieving pr status.
Without marriage to barmaids ofcourse. So also you guys just rant and whine and profess to witness the system working but it's always some friend of a friend's friend y'all always bring to the table.

Let the reports and stats show that so so amount of pr were handed to so so amount of graduates who landed jobs before the end of 18months.
Let everything be transparent and then ppl will judge better. I said the latest one I could get my hands on was one off the grid stat of handing PR that year to only 2000 graduates as far back as 2010

That realization in itself is enough to make ppl sick. What the hell do dey now do with the hordes of thousands upon scores of thousand of folks accumulating geometrically with each year faster than a cesspit of blokes infected with Aids?

I'm curious to know if perhaps dey brainwash most ppl who fail to meet up with the dream or a vast majority just don't really care to speak out or some contracts are being signed to that effect lol or dey somehow absorb them.

Cos the YouTube channels all everyone on quora or reddit always says positives. But were are the stats?

You said I'm bringing wrong analysis of data. Lol tell that to that kid that got fed up with the system early April and was debating whether to come home or not.

https://www.nairaland.com/5185821/should-move-uk-return-nigeria

Whether Deutschland dey secretly pay all of una for cheap publicity is beyond me.

But what is really going on concerning pr for migrants in Deutschland?
Bring your own facts with links plz of the system working

I stopped quoting you because I realised I was dealing with someone who thinks he's so smart in a discussion he knows nothing about.

You really want us to come here every day and whine about the negative sides of living in Germany which have been mentioned on the German thread countless times, which can be found online too.

Are you frustrated and angry you just realised nobody go give you PR just because you studied and got a job within 1.5 years which to me doesn't make sense. If you read their immigration laws clear enough you will see that time spent as a student doesn't really count that much.

As someone not on student visa, I'm eligible to apply next year after 5 years of living in Germany but if I were on student visa I would have not qualified for PR because the rules are different.

You talk about us not sharing the bad sides. The bad sides which I'm sure have been mentioned here again and again include the language, racism, difficulty to get a job after studying if you need to know the language or if your course isn't lucrative in Germany, being on tight schedules because of studies, rude officials in the foreign office, juggling two jobs at the same time, difficulty to get an apartment as a student. Others can add theirs too and I strictly mean only people living in Germany!.

What again do you really want to hear.

Pr this pr that. Some of us just want to live in a system that works, that's it.

If you want pr, come and get it undecided.

Hi! Sorry to ask u. Why did you specifically mention English and Literature? Thanks
Because it is weird to study such in Germany, a country where English is not the local lang. And the Professors are mostly imported from the UK/US

This one wey you Dey quote me one second then reedit. Lol

It is well.

I never said you get pr while schooling. The law clearly states you are eligible to land pr as a student migrant after schooling or being a graduate of a German institution of which you must have landed a job related to your field waiting for you before graduating or in 18months after graduating

You asked me to cite another example of a disgruntled person...other than the nl guy
I give you Carlos Paul
