They are producing 130 pieces of Ezugwu in one year at the least.

Nigeria’s CSTP Completes Three Successful Experimental Rocket Launches

The Lagos-based Centre For Space Transport And Propulsion (CSTP), a technical arm of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) focused on space transport and rocketry, has completed three successful experimental rocket launches in the past nine months, recording varying degrees of success.

Established on 19 February 2003, as one of the six activity Centres of NASRDA, CSTP is charged with the responsibility of conducting fundamental research and development (R & D ) of space transport vehicles and propulsion system.

Managed by Nigerian scientists and engineers, the goal of the program is to enable Nigeria to operate a spaceport with the capability to launch commercial satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO), and interplanetary space by 2030.

The Centre is strategically situated along the Lagos lagoon in Epe, and near the Lagos State University (LASU), Epe Engineering campus.

According to an official document from the Centre obtained by Space in Africa, CSTP carried three successful rocket test flights: CSTP_TL_1 launched on the 24 April 2019 while CSTP_TL_2 and CSTP_TL_3 were launched on the same day, 25 June 2019.

The document did not disclose the altitude achieved by the experimental flights. However, Space in Africa, in a previous site visit to the Centre, gathered that the Centre has carried out over 30 experimental rocket launches before 2019 with record altitude below 10km.

The recent test launches were conducted to demonstrate an extensive research effort carried out by the Centre to formulate a hybrid of sucrose and sorbitol-based propellants and to ascertain the integrity of its newly developed rocket recovery system.

“In the past CSTP has used sucrose-based or sorbitol-based rocket fuel which is of low energy for its test flights. It is pertinent to note that from 2019, extensive research effort has been carried out to formulate a hybrid of sucrose and sorbitol to obtain a solid rocket fuel of a higher specific impulse than the previous solid rocket fuels. This new fuel will be a game-changer for CSTP and hopefully, it will ensure the retirement of heavier Solid Rocket Motors for lighter ones,” CSTP told Space in Africa.

CSTP made some progress in the past 9 months in developing innovative propulsion systems and new propellants including the “design of a new nozzle and its integration with a bulkhead and chamber for Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) application”. The Centre said it designed and fabricated several SRMs with sorbitol propellants which recorded static test results ranging from 1.2KN-6.2KN. Its SRMs using sucrose and sorbitol-based hybrid propellants recorded 5.13KN with free volume and 7.12KN without free volume. The Centre also developed a 20KN load-cell with integrated data acquisition system (DAQ) for static test of SRM.

In the area of software development, the Centre boasts of developing “advanced in-house software platforms for analysis, evaluation, prediction and estimation of various datasets for optimization of the rocket structure, SMR and rocket test flights”.

On 25 June 2019, the then Director-General of NASRDA, Prof S.O Mohammed commissioned two modern facilities at the Centre: a mechanical workshop and advanced propulsion complex to support the Centre’s research and development activities.

According to Nigeria’s 25-year strategic roadmap for space, CSTP is expected to develop fully functional propulsion systems and sounding rockets to launch Nigerian-made satellites into space from a Nigerian spaceport by 2030.

Although the Centre has fallen short of its development timeline, CSTP officials believe they can still achieve the goal of launching satellites from Nigeria by 2030 if the government prioritizes funding for the project.

The Nigerian government is reportedly considering to set up a new launch site on a remote island in the Atlantic, to accommodate full-sized space launch programme. Space in Africa is yet to confirm the status of the report as most government officials either decline to comment on the plan or deny knowledge of such report.

Ezugwu already in the front lines.
Likely for live trials.

Let's see how it goes. IMO I don't believe in the capabilities of NAVMC, but its good for us if it comes good.

FIREFIGHT
They, in general, tend to be disorganized that is why you have radios, Soldiers need to be disciplined, and there is no telling how long they will last.
one last point it is a credit to the NAF that they have avoided any instance of blue on blue.

NAF STRIVES FOR HIGHER STANDARDS OF DISCIPLINE, REGIMENTATION AS 40 PERSONNEL GRADUATE FROM RSM COURSE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 19 October 2019, graduated 40 personnel, including 2 airwomen of the Regiment Specialty, from the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Course at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna. While congratulating the graduating students, the Guest of Honour (GOH), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Idi Amin, the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC), said RSMs are not only primarily responsible for maintaining standards and discipline as well as acting as mentors to their subordinates, but also serve as the link between Commissioned Officers and the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) cadre. He stated that RSMs play critical roles in unit discipline, training and administration. He therefore urged the graduating RSMs to be fair, firm and considerate in handling issues in order to cultivate team spirit, thereby fostering greater harmony in NAF units and formations. The GOH also charged the graduands to continue to uphold the core values of the NAF and keep updating themselves on the dynamics of the current security challenges facing the Country in order to make meaningful contributions. AVM Amin appreciated the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, for his visionary leadership and tenacious dedication to capacity building as well as the continued support to the GTC.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant RTC, Group Captain Isaac Subi, stated that the re-introduction of the RSM Course by the current NAF leadership had ameliorated the short fall of trained RSMs that had been occasioned by the separation from Service of earlier generations of RSMs. He stated that the 3-month training had exposed the students to series of leadership and management models, unit administration, communication skills, range management, weapon training and battle procedures as well as civil-military relations and Air Force Law, amongst others. He disclosed that the graduating students worked hard, displaying commitment, self discipline and determination to meet the standards required of a unit RSM. He expressed gratitude to the CAS for his uncommon drive and motivation to provide highly skilled and professional manpower across all NAF specialties and particularly the unparalleled support to RTC which, he said, has been a major beneficiary of the transformational initiatives of the CAS.

Awards were given to students who distinguished themselves during the course, with Flight Sergeant Adamu Haladu bagging the CAS Award, Warrant Officer Busari Akeem Adeniyi winning the AOC GTC’s Award and Flight Sergeant Oyakhire Peter receiving the Commandant RTC’s Award for emerging First, Second and Third, respectively, in the Order of Merit. The Graduation Ceremony was attended by Commandants, Commanders and Officers of co-located NAF units in Kaduna.

It really baffles me that while folks here are conversing over issues on defense procurements, hardware specifications and the total mess going on in the North East, it seems those in power do not see the extent of trouble we have gotten ourselves into. Read a few days ago where the President openly boasted that BH/ISWAP has been "substantially defeated".

I don't know what the red necks are telling the C-in-C, but it's either we the onlookers are grossly over-estimating the situation or the President is simply playing politics, or even worse, the President is not fully aware of the proportion of this conflict, I suspect a little of the second and third. What would even be more terrible is if the "defense planners" are truly ignorant of current realities, because it looks as if the brass have their faces so firmly planted in the President's a.ss that they can no longer see beyond those bony butt-cheeks.

I hope I am wrong though. For the sake of the country.
