boarder closure with low local productivity and lack of govt support base for entrepreneurial will end us in regret in no time, if rapid measures is not put in place to fill the vacuum, the boarder closure is causing average Nigerians buhari in his first term ban I passed my neighbor without stabilizing the power sector, this made many Nigerians who can't afford more than I pass my neighbor to be totally confused this man pattern of govt is archaic and meaningless, he's not a lifetime president, someone should inform him of that |

alhassanyusuf29:You are a clown. What does abokii contribute to the economy.? Better focus on your kettle. It is the same nyamurii that uses the ports and make business possible and wait for the next federal allocation. When nyamurii is talking economics, abokii should shut up. You contribute nothing, do nothing and earn nothing. |

PoliticalWitch:To stop fuel smuggling raise price of fuel to a price that would make it unprofitable for smugglers. Use toll gates to charge a levy on vehicles bringing in smuggled goods to make it less attractive for transporter. Station customs at unloading bays / entry point to charge a final levy at all major markets . Perhaps only those transporter willing to follow very stringent procedure that proof their load are not smuggled will have much lower levy or be exempt. |

I support this move by FG. There has been a lot of irregular activities in our borders which is not good for the economy. The border closure is temporary, but it will make our neighbours to sit up. Also its goof for local production. Demand will arise for local products, enough of using our scarce foreign reserve to be patronizing other economies through importation. When local products are patronised, local companies will innovate and bring out better products. While the government will then use our foreign earnings to improve on infrastructures like good roads, power, railways, education, health, etc. That's the path that any Nation that wants to develop takes. I have criticized the president on handling of the economy, but on this one he is right. That's why IMF is supporting the policy because its good for economic expansion and growth. |

Re: IMF Backs Nigeria On Border Closure by aribs(m): 6:03pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
It is only sensible that the IMF should support free trade. No one should support what is going on at the land borders with respect to smuggling. Not particularly now when the government is strapped for cash. Do your business legally, pay your duties on the goods imported, do it legally. No government will say no to such. Where is the sense in subsidising your neighbors' economies by leaving your own borders to be porous and killing the industry of your own citizens? While all the time, letting citizen smugglers of other countries grow fat at your expense? 1 Like 1 Share |
