buhariguy:Another shameless illiterate. Even your dimwit president knows where the real economy comes from. All the machineries used for production,, the essential drugs we use, the clothes we wear and other basic commodities are imported by nyamurii. And these nyamurii pay heavy duties for it so that buhari can use the money for his Fulani people. Go to the east and see what it means to locally manufacture. What does abokii do apart from wasting our resources through terrorism and corruption? The money we have used to fight terrorism in borno alone is enough to build rail lines across the country. You produce food and yet Nigeria is one of the highest importers of food in the world. You produce food and the north is suffering from chronic malnutrition and hunger compared to any other part of Nigeria. Clown. 2 Likes |

phyllosilicate: Those appointed to do public relations job for government are only making a satire of themselves. They should go to platforms of professionals where their folly would be fully ridiculed. Earlier today, one of the PR jobs is an account of a Twitter user of an activity at Niger Border which I did not even open because I know its purpose. It would be interesting for Germany to also shut her borders against other EU member States. Long time ago, I know the EU and other Donors supported projects of Abidjan - Lagos corridor and the proposed Senegal - Lagos corridor would be wasted efforts. Mentioning Niger by FG public relations boys is just to camouflage. |

You are here forming I support the border closure when you already said you hate the man not because of party or anything, the why do you hate him? Ask yourself this question and reflect deeply, maybe your eyes will open to the lies you have been fed all this while |

Will Nigeria close its brother if it had the edge in exporting goods to other parts of the region. Only a country that has nothing to offer closes its borders. 1 Like 1 Share |

Buhari doing wonders with economy such that our proposed minimum wage is lower than that of American prisoner's daily upkeep...Wonderful!!! Our roads all good.... Taxes lower than Obj and GEJ.. lexy2014: Here is what you need to understand, Illegal importation from this neighbouring countries makes it difficult for Nigerian Businesses to compete within their own market/space. So the Federal Government is giving the power back to Local producers (such as Rice farmers) by closing the border, so that the Local producers can also have the power to thrive within their own National economy" and this move is a win situation for every Nigerians because it will bring about inclusive growth (such as Job creation and poverty alleviation). I hope you understand this simple analysis? |

buhariguy: You see, has buhari or his apc ever say IMF was right for once when it comes to their findings about Nigeria? This will show you the difference between sane IMF and insane primitive dumb African leaders who never accept they are wrong and correct it. IMF will support your economic policies when they agree it's right irrespective of whoever does it. |

buhariguy:Clown. Many Igbos actually support the border closure so that our local industries in places like aba, and nnewi can grow. Closing the border does not make buhari suddenly better He is a dimwit. Importation does not destroy the economy. Another student in the abokii school of economics. The machines you use in producing are imported, the generator you use are imported, the drugs you use in your hospitals are imported. If Igbos don't import those, your country will not survive. Even in local manufacturing, Igbos lead the way. What does abokii do for Nigeria? 1 Like |

SenecaTheYonger: This is exactly my point. Considering IMF's notoriety and penchant for keeping African developing countries in the doldrums, every good thinking African should be wary whenever IMF pats the back of any government over a policy. I WAS in full support of this border closure but with IMF's nod, I shall hold my peace on this issue until I have professional assessment of this issue. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: IMF Backs Nigeria On Border Closure by Iolo(m): 7:44pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
I see five major benefits to the border closure: 1. Supporting the local industries: Making local rice more attractive to us Nigerians. People will buy what they see and if it takes banning imported rice for more Nigerians to consume local rice then this works for the government. 2. Saving Money spent subsidizing fuel smuggled to Benin: The government has realized that about 10% of our daily consumption as a country is being smuggled to Benin. The issue this brings is the country is effectively paying for another countries consumption. Easy solution to this is to remove fuel subsidy but doing that affects Nigerians adversely. Closing down the borders makes it all the more difficult to continue to smuggle fuel across. I don’t recall the numbers now but NNPC has recently reduced a drop in our daily consumption as a country which proves this theory correct. 3. Increase income from duties by encouraging importers to come through Lagos ports rather than cotonou: the goal here is simply revenue generation. The customs has proven this correct as well as their revenues have gone up in recent weeks. The government only needs to fix the port roads and drive more efficiency at the ports otherwise this will be a temporary fix once the borders are reopened. 4. Foreign policy benefits (I.e. resolving issues of economic sabotage) : this will give us more bargaining chips as the FG looks to resolve issues of economic sabotage coming from Benin republic. The Benin government makes a lot of money by sabotaging our policies. Case in point is a statistic that shows Benin as the third largest importer of rice in the world whereas we all know where much of that rice ends up. Importers who bring in this rice pay duties to the Benin government and then smuggle it into Nigeria. 5. Foreign policy benefits (I.e. resolving issues of non-cooperation was towards dealing with boko haram: a lot of our neighbors have taken a non commital attitude towards fighting boko haram head on. Some of our neighboring Countries such as Niger and Chad are entirely landlocked and rely on us (In addition to Benin and Cameroon to a smaller extent) for most of their imports. closing the land borders affects their economies adversely which idealistically makes them more willing to do our bidding. I hope this helps someone here better understand the issues being discussed. Disclaimer: I don’t work for the government or the APC. |

Toyota refused to bring their manufacturing plant to Nigeria. They rather picked Ghana, knowing fully well that Nigeria is their largest market in Africa. Now we Will Ban all vehicle produced in Ghana from reaching our country then I will see if the 11 million Ghanaians will give TOYOTA what they want. God bless PMB |

obidark: English language is very simple. This is d statement I responded to "can US allowed anything they can produce to enter into their country? Especially food" D gentleman said "anything" and that includes SAMSUNG and Toyota products. Second, do u use ur phone to watch porn? Maybe that's y that's d only thing u could think of. Again, is it only phone Samsung produces or does Toyota produce phone? Third, ur ignorance is getting d better of u. There's no country in d world that is self sufficient in food production. They supplement local production with imports when demand can't b met by local production. That's basic for every country. Food isn't an exception. I expected u to no something that simple. 1 Like |
