I know most jamaicans feel this way but this is not true.

Slaves were taken from all over west Africa, so why do Jamaicans love to attach themselves to ghana so bad ?

Am a Ghanaian and the reason why majority of Jamaicans claim to be Ghanaians is the strong connection and history between Jamaica and Ghana. Firstly there are thousands of Jamaicans who base in Ghana and naturalize as Ghanaians and have a strong association called the Carribians Ghana Association. It's not only Jamicans who see themselves as Ghanaians buh majority of the Carribians including Guyana,Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, and others.About Jamaicans there's a strong ethnic group or tribe in Jamaica called the Maroons who were break away and escaped slaves who ran into the mountains and deep forests in Jamaica during the slave trade. These Maroons were originally Ashanti warriors who were captured during a defeat in battle with the British and sold into slavery.Due to their high training and endurance, they mostly broke off and rebelled against the slave masters. They still kept most of their Akan languages and culture till date buh they were later mixed with other ethnic groups from other countries as they expanded. Then there was the greatest female Jamaican warrior Queen Nanny who was a break away slave and a queen of the Ashantis before she was captured and sold. She was very powerful and commanded armies of break away slaves to help create independence in Jamaica and some parts of the Carribians. In Guyana,an Akan break away slave is also a huge warrior and legend in their freedom as a nation. Then later after the slave trade the most popular Pan African and Jamaican hero Marcus Garvey who wanted to transport former freed slaves back to Africa their root bought a huge ship and named it The Black Star Line. That's where Kwame Nkrumah whose mentor was Marcus Garvey took the star and name The Black Star of Africa and inserted it into the Ghanaian flag. And this year of return that Ghana organized, the president traveled to Jamaica and the whole of Carribians to secure visa free entry into all countries by both citizens and invited them to return home.Bob Marley 's wife Rita Marley was given a Ghanaian citizenship and up till date Jamaican culture is very rich in Ghana and the Ghanaian culture is very rich in Jamaica too.Their flags are common in Ghana. What has Nigeria done to connect with the millions of Blacks in Brazil because they also see themselves as Nigerians from Igbos and Yorubas.Don't wait for them to be wealthy before you accept and connect with them.

Well thank you for the explanation, I learned a lot from it

However I dont think the bolded was really necessary, we have plenty of descendants all over the world, we are not ignoring them because they dont have money but because we have a lot of stuff to deal with right now... or youre not noticing that our country is in crisis huh

Lol dont mind the stark illiterates.

How exactly does it make sense for the same group of tribesmen to be taken from one country only and dumped on the same island.

The slaves were mixed up

Yea I totally understand your points and hoping when you get your house in order, you welcome your diasporans back home. Most of them are suffering frim racism, discrimination, persecutions, etc in these white people's lands and most want to at least visit once the motherland as they call Africa.Ghana couldn't invite them home in the 70s and 80s due to our then crisis. Now we have launched the Year of Return. There's a DNA ancestor testing that identify the particular tribe the African American slave ancestors and where they come from. Some come to visit these countries. For Jamaica and Ghana, the bond is very present that's why we don't joke with Jamaican dancehall music and culture in Ghana. Jamaicans are very common to see here.Below is the flag of both Jamaican and Ashanti Kingdom flags and they recognize the Ashanti King and respect him as their King.He visited Jamaica this year.
1.Jamaica flag
2.Ashanti Kingdom flag which is far older than even the Jamaican flag

Thats cool... yes i heard about the Year of Return.

So how do they integrate with you guys' culture? Do you guys intermarry etc?

Are they able to cope with African society? One of the reasons that Afro-Caribbeans and Africans in diaspora have frosty relations is because Africans see them as unserious, morally loose, uneducated etc. while Afro-Caribbeans see them as uncivilised, snobbish, backward etc . Well neither of those is far from the truth actually, to some extent

I remember watching a documentary about Rastafarians who had relocated back to Ethiopia. It had its advantages and disadvantages. East Africans can still be racist towards West Africans/ADOS people though

They accuse us of not fighting colonization like the ghanaians did.

They also accuse us of not being together like ghanaians are.

Hm. But of course we fought it now huh but I think ghana was the first independent country in Africa or something like that

Yeah of course we are not together but the way we were formed and the ethnic makeup of Nigeria is

a. Very complicated and not really conducive to successful cohesion
b. Not our fault! how can you be together with people you dont like?

I dont even know. Does Ghana have a problem with oil militancy and Islamist terrorism? Because thats whats even disturbing us right now

Its not a fair comparison abeg

By the way are Jamaicans "together" themselves? They dont seem too together to me.

The caribbean countries that look "together" are those quiet ones like Barbados, Bahamas, st. Kitts and Nevis etc. The stories coming out of Jamaica and Trinidad and tobago no follow at all

Chop am. The exact same points I would say.

They really think we sat down and drank juice while being colonised? huh
What chance did they think we stand with ppl with weapons ?
That comment upsets me so much I can't even.. it's just so ignorant.
If jamaicans knew the history of Nigeria, they would be more sensitive.

A country were the age of consent is 11 and some ppl believe in marrying 14 yr olds.

And they say we aren't together?

Let jamaicans have multiple ethnicities and let's see how together they would be

Oh wow! Never knew the relationship between ghanaians and jamaicans are this deep !

But I'm sorry, its insensitive of you to compare the set-up in Nigeria to ghana and ask why we didn't invite the diasporas home?

Ghana and Nigeria have completely different political scenarios going on. Nigerians disunity is a product of this. Does Ghana experience the threat of islamic extremists? Is ghana a large diverse nation with tribes with completely different views and mindsets?? Nope.

So its saddening that carribeans love ghanaians but hate nigerians. You as an African should know better.

Its completely ignorance on their part that they hate Nigerians without knowing our history.

They're so ignorant sorry. How can most of the slave descendants be from one place?

What about the other west African nations?

You ghanaians need to realise that you're being used. The carribeans are just attaching themselves to a peaceful country with a wealthy history.

Contrary to your first paragraph, I disagree ghanaians and jamaicans aren't similar at all.

Jamaicans and Nigerians are more similar to each other and I'm not just saying that cos I'm Nigerian.

Perharp, you can read these two links and both are two Jamaican written sites and articles about their connections to Ghana. And of course not,we don't claim all Jamaican or Carribians and African Americans. They were taken from all parts of the western coast of Africa and transported across the Sahara and in fact, very few of them were Ghanaians.buh Ghana played a major collaborator with the Europeans this over 40 castles and forts built in Ghana alone by the Europeans so more slaves were shipped from the Ghana then The Gold Coast. Buh I don't know why you say the Jamaicans and Carribians hate Nigerians. Why do you say so.Below are the articles of Jamaicans discussing their strong relationship with Ghana

Re: What Do You Know About Jamaican Men? by Cousin9999:
Kromanti is one reason.

The Kromanti language is the mother tongue of the Jamaican Maroons. The Maroons are descendants of slaves who escaped to freedom from colonial servitude and formed their own independent communities in the 17th century. The language thrived in these communities and only began to diminish in usage in the early 20th century. It is generally spoken now only by elders in Maroon communities.

Kromanti is one of the three languages of Jamaica and belongs to the Akan language group, which includes Fante, Asante, and the Twi family. The Asante language is spoken in Ghana’s Ashanti region. Kromanti is similar to the Creole languages spoken in Suriname. In Jamaica, it is spoken by the Maroons of Moore Town, Charles Town, and Scott’s Hall. The nature of Maroon society has been described as “secretive,” an element that has been cited as the chief reason for the demise of Kromanti. The language is currently used mainly In special ceremonial situations known as the Kromanti Play. The ceremony addresses Maroon ancestors and invokes ancestor spirits through dances, songs and specific types of drumming. Many of the Kromanti leaders had names that originated in Akan culture.

Actually jamaica has plenty of ethnicities, their motto is even "Out of many, one people". They have ethnic Indians, Chinese, Jewish, Arab and Scots-Irish as well as blacks

Black Jamaicans suffer in Jamaica the most because their society grades people on ethnicity/skin tone. Thats why they have a big problem with bleaching and a lack of opportunity for black people is why so many of them emigrate to other places

I agree with you, Nigerians and Jamaicans have the same stubbornness, arrogance and fighting spirit

Ghanaians seem more like Trinidadians, more gentle, more thoughtful/realistic but still with some corrupt behaviours
