This is a brief discussion about my favorite applications to give an idea of my thoughts on duolingo.

Language learning application : DW (Deutsche Welle)

This is by far the best learning application for German language. The well structured German language online course is managed by DW. The application contains many useful resources to learn German and also, placement test to know your German level.

#
Language learning application : BUSUU

This is one of my favorite language learning applications. It is better than duolingo when it comes to listening skills, when it comes to writing, and when it comes to reading. It also provides more opportunities for engagement with others. The vocabularly is presented in a way that context learning is much easier.

So, in this way, i will say busuu, DW and duolingo can sometimes be a nice compliment.

Another good application is DEUTSCHTRAINER A1-APP

The app combines listening, reading and writing and helps you practice basic vocabulary. It is available for free for iOS and Android.

Here are some websites where you can learn German

DW

Nancy thuleen

Germanpod101

BBC german

Collection of useful learning materials in one place

Learn German easily

It is very important to practice speaking if you learn on your own. Even if you don't have enough time, have a short practice periods throughout the week. As my mentor always say wiederholung. ist. der. Schlüsselfaktor. im. Lernprozess. which means repetition is the key factor in learning process.

Prost.

DW is the best smiley.

Bro... Have you tried MosaLingua? Paid version? This is the best for me! It's the first app I've truly paid for from playstore in my entire life.

After buying it, you still buy some features and learning packages. Mehn... The app is a blessing!

Chef, es. ist. verboten. Deutsch. auf. Nairaland. zu. schreiben. smiley

To your request, sorry but i won't be able to help because of the following reasons

1) I'm not a German native

2) I'm still in the university studying a tough course and i would be very busy in few days time because we have resumed already.
Moreover, i haven't practiced German for some weeks now, all because of school

3) I don't even know my German level sef. I make mistakes alot. There was a time when i wrote gut. das. zu. hören to ottersberger. He corrected me by saying es freut. mich. das. zu. hören.

If you really want to improve your listening skill, it's better you get yourself a German native. That is the best way to improve.

We have some German native on this platform. The likes of Janettee, fieryy, Lovelygurl, DeutschJunge, mamajj17, Berliner, Schwartz, Germandude, Willy2000, pompido, dolpaz, ottersberger, honourableseyi, Obiwannn, Eke40seven, Cindino20, benycent and dobeespen should be able to help.

*The emboldened monikers are the German natives while the rest are bosses in German language cool

Another platform to get German native is speaky. Search it on Play Store or Apple Store depending on the phone you are using.

I hope you find it helpful.

Prost.

Nice one bro

Unlike court certifications and notary public, embassy certifications are accepted universally.

For specific schools dat desire only embassy crested applications however, some unfortunate ppl may end up sending unverified documents or documents certified by notary public's to the same school out of stupendous drivel or perhaps to test the school authorities patience out of desperation to get AL.

That's why I say it gives the applicant an advantage or edge in the admissions office of a school desiring such for AL

Your first paragraph is probably true. As for the part in bold, I really don't expect any serious prospective student to do that when the requirements have been made clear by the school.

The real bone of contention is your submission in the third paragraph. Let me cite an example. A course makes it clear that Court certification and Embassy certification are allowed for it's programme.

Two candidates A & B with similar profiles apply for admission to the programme. Candidate A certifies with the Court while Candidate B opts for Embassy certification. Does Candidate B have a better chance than Candidate A because he used Embassy certification?

The answer is No!

Just wanted to make this very clear especially for newbies on here. Have a great day.

You've said it all. To the newbies, don't think that embassy certification will give you an edge in securing admission. Embassy certification only plays a role if the school specifically requires it. Apart from that nothing else.
Also the maximum amount of sets of documents you can certify at the embassy is 5. So if you're applying to more than 5 schools it may not work for you.
Another factor is the application form issue. The embassy will not certify your documents without an application form. Also, they don't usually certify documents that are not signed and stamped like student transcript. We all know that official transcript can be difficult to get so most people use student transcript for their admission.
So newbies, don't get carried away.

We are taught to see and accept all human perfections/imperfections, actions/consequences as equally logical and justifiable. It doesn't bode well for an applicant that does as such but truly anything is possible if one tries.

Once upon a yesterday, a jolly old dandy lived in sokoto, somehow someway he saw internet to browse this topic in the travel section on nl; he became fixated and now dreamt like a bucktoothed Jimmy of doing pg in germany; he planned out 10schools he would apply to; realized 3 of those with application forms available needed embassy crested docs, so he got his docs ready and downloaded five school forms for winter session. Travelled down tulmoultous rapids and deadly snares to get five docs certified by the lousy Abuja embassy and came back to sokoto hale and hearty. He gave a testimony in church on how he survived a hellish voyage, wrestled armed robbers and escaped the jaws of death by the teeth. He later sent three embassy certified docs to the schools needing only embassy crest and sent court certified docs to the other seven schools that were indifferent...a few weeks went by and nothing from each school. Weeks quickly became months but still nothing and by May he started to get worried.

One sunday mid may humid morning, he opened his mail, only to be greeted by 4 series of rejections!!!..."despair, in agony and a sickening churn in his stomach" were the only words he could express on his quivering lips. Two of those rejections came from 2 out of the three schools he sent embassy crested docs to. He quickly brushed his teeth and had breakfast.
Went about his daily routine and was greeted by a further 5 rejections by evening.

Distraught and in sifia pains, he desperately sought out schools whose applications deadline had not passed. He saw 5(of which 4 needed embassy crested docs)with deadlines ending that friday. He knew the only way to get embassy crests would be to go to Abuja again Which would probably mean he wouldn't make it in time to send the respective docs.

He desperately racked the cajones of his gods to provide another alternative, to no avail. He finally decided on what to do...and sent the remaining 2 embassy crested forms alongside 3 high court stamped docs to them.

As he left dhl office another alert entered and it was the last rejection letter from his first batch of missiles. This dude cried for days and succumbed to taking marijuana for the nerves. His once golden shimmering dream of being a student in Deutschland was slipping from his hands...

He got 3 admissions that year...

Who are you to judge him as an unserious student?

One thing is certain tho, Your expectations were not consulted when he received AL neither where dey needed when he touchdown germany.

smiley

By the way
Embassy certificates still have advantages over the others.

For Newbies...
Please use any "proper" and acceptable means to certify your document.
Embassy Certification does not give any advantage whatsoever, except it is explicitly stated to use the embassy, otherwise use any "proper" means

All the best

Very very valid.

I almost got high bp and spent lots of money to have my transcript stamped by my school and arrange other documents for embassy certification, only for Oga Pauli to bounce me because i was unavoidably late.

I just jejely went to notary public to certify my documents and sent to Uniassist. I cant kill myself for mere certification
