It is a scam bros. I have been on Freelancer since 2016 and this is the first time that I have seen someone asking a potential employee to get paid to be employed. Na scam o.

Like someone said above, it is scam. Don't take any job outside the platform so if anything happen, they can easily track it.

Look, for now if you get gigs make sure they pay you through freelancer and use freelancer milestone. The milestone fee should be what you both agreed on. The reason is that if you work for a client and he refuses to pay, you can contact freelancer and they will investigate. If they find that you did good work and the client is at fault they will release the milestone fee to you.
Keep doing this till you find a client you can trust. If you trust a client, you can ask to be paid weekly and off freelancer. Being paid off freelancer means you won't be subject to freelancer fees, but opens you up for problem if the client for some reason refuses to pay for work done.
Right now you are new at this and it can be discouraging, but keep at it. Apply for all the freelancer contests you can and apply for freelancer projects you feel confident about. And feel free to ask me anything.

Actually it's not too fantastic. Payment on freelancer can vary from very low to very high. But in this case I feel it's a scam.

Thank you so much for this. There are quite a lot I'm get to understand. Like the number of bids I'm entitled to. I was given 8 bids as a free member initially, then I upgraded to $9 package yesterday. I've not placed up to 20 bids, yet, I only have 3/100 bids left. How does it work please?

You spent $9 on a membership plan? Not cool. There's another membership plan that costs a little less than $5. It would have been a better investment cos it's good and not very expensive.

Look, everyone on freelancer is given a certain number of bids. The number of bids vary depending on the membership plan the person is on. Like right now I'm on the Basic Plan. That entitles me to around 15 bids per month. If you upgraded to the $9 plan and have yet to make up to 20 bids but your bids have finished, then something is wrong. Or not

Look, depending on the membership plan you are on, the bids replenish faster than normal. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. Still, make sure you are actually on a $9 membership plan.

Another thing, since it appears that you have money, you should consider having some freelancer exams. They cost around $5 each if I remember correctly and make you eligible for more jobs.
Also, most employers will only employ people with certificates from these exams. As a minimum consider doing the exam that shows you are proficient in English.

Another thing, to get work you need to write outstanding bids. That means your bid on any project must be A class. So, next time you make a bid, have a look at the bids made by other people and learn from this in order to be able to make killer bids.

Also, don't spend all your time in projects. There are many contests on Freelancer. You can enter them for free and win cool cash. If you do really well the contest holder might even start giving you steady work.

There is no minimum or maximum amount. It depends on how much the client can pay and how good you are.

Before you accept any bid be sure that you both agree on how payments are to be made, how much you are to be paid and how you are to do and deliver the work. Otherwise you can accept a bid, find out the work conditions are shitty, and refuse to work, only for the client to complain to freelancer and have you punished or fined.

As for the second bid you mentioned, relax. The client will contact you if and when he wants to. And do remember most clients come from India. The time difference is much. So it's possible the client is napping or romancing a cow Just chill. He will contact you when he wants to.

As an addendum, you can accept the first bid, but have you discussed the nature of work with the client? You can still accept the bid, but I really wouldn't recommend that because there are too many things that can go wrong. If the client actually wants you for the job, he will reestablish contact regardless of if the time for accepting the project has passed.

There is no sure fire way to know genuine clients. Just be alert for scams and make sure they establish milestones before you do any work, otherwise they will simply take your work and run and there is nothing you can do about it. For example, I have been on Freelancer since 2016 and yet a client recently contracted me for a project about writing camera reviews. The pay was too good, so I did an A-class 3000-word camera review for him. I neglected to ask him to establish a milestone because the whole thing was based on a gentleman's agreement. He took my work and ran. Till today I have not heard from him. Shame still dey catch me anytime I think of that ) : A whole me deceived just like that.

In conclusion, there is no sure fire way to know genuine projects. So, be perpetually alert and remember to protect yourself by asking the client to first establish milestone for work done before you can submit it. There are lots of good clients out there, as well as lots of fake and very wicked ones.

That's good. Be sure to make full use of the plan. Apply for projects you are qualified for whenever you have bids. If you see a project you like and you don't have any bids, simply bookmark the project and apply later when you have bids.

There is really no guaranteed way of getting jobs on freelancer. You simply have to write the very best bids for projects, keep your eyes open and be totally professional.
Freelancer work is never easy and there might be months when you are unemployed cos no client has hired you. Still, try not to be discouraged, keep on applying for the best projects you are qualified for and keep on polishing your skills.

I think a way to spot scam clients, an employer that registered today and is posting jobs immediately. No records whatsoever. These are the kind of clients that have contacted me to make security deposit before being awarded a project.

Hello! Not all clients that register today and immediately start posting projects are scammers. However, if they list pay and working conditions that are too good to be true, then there are probably scammers.

You should watch out for clients who post the same projects over and over. They are usually scams.

Also, do remember that for some reason a majority of all posted projects are not awarded to any freelancer. That is really frustrating.

Good morning. Listen closely please. On Freelancer there are two kinds of jobs : contests and projects.

Contests are free and anyone can do them. Once there is a contest you can read the contest requirements and do what is required. This might take the form of article writing, product description, logo design and lots more.

Since contests are free lots of people do them. You can submit multiple entries in each contest. Should you win a contest the contest provider will release the contest fee. However, only do contests that guarantee payment, otherwise you might submit entries, win and not get paid.

As for projects, they are not free. You are new right, that means you are on the Basic membership plan. This provides just 15 project bids per month. If you want more project bids you must upgrade your membership plan. Go to the membership plans section and see the fees for each plan.

Projects are very different from contests. On projects, someone advertised a need for a freelancer. You can apply if you think you meet the project requirements and can do the job well.
Usually, projects are long term. This means you can get work that lasts months or years. The first project I got lasted almost a year and I'm still in touch with the person that awarded the project to me.

Contests on the other hand are short term and consists of an arena where lots of freelancers battle to provide content that the contest holder will love the most. However, there are some folks that use contests to pick freelancers they wish to work with for the long term.

I would advise you to upgrade your membership plans and get more project bids per month. More, before you apply for any project take a good look at the project proposals of other freelancers. Then write a better proposal.
Also, don't confine your job search to Freelancer. Regularly check on Twitter for writing jobs.
