The reality is that no company was willing to invest in supplying gas to Calabar power plant without a take or pay agreement.
The problem now is that Calabar power plant has a capacity of 561MW, but it's not generating up to capacity because the Distribution companies are not ready to take the whole power generated which they blame on poor revenue collection.
So the power plant is asked to generate below capacity, running 2 out of 5 turbines most times while the gas is available there, because the company has to recoup it's investment, the FG has to pay a percentage for not using the supplied gas while the citizens suffer lack of adequate power.

I know this because I work in the generation system which is frustrating to us watching what the Discos are doing to Nigerians angry

Hold on... What you mean now in summary is that the Nigerian government pays for Nigerians not to have electricity?

A failed state.
I laugh at people that still believe in this shithole.

People should get this bitter truth straight, Nigeria is a large populated failed state.

Even our so-called leaders knows that the country is heading south that's why they keep acting same Naija political script by using the masses against each other then systematically loot their Commonwealth.
Everything is wrong with this country.

Just check the kind of person ruling the country. BUHARI. grin grin grin

Biafra, keep to the title of the discussion...we are not interested in your useless biases

PDP and evil contracts... that Adoke needs to apologise to Nigerians on what he and Jonathan did

..

Bros did you read very well? Adoke actually refused to sign stating how disadvantaged the deal is to the country. It was Mallami and Osinbajo that proceeded to sign the deal

2011 again? The chief drunk master of the as usual was in charge. When we said all he left behind was a legacy of waste, some Ignorant wanted to fight.
The best that ever happened to Nigeria was the change of government in 2015. It's only the All-knowing that can tell what would have happened to Nigeria had the guy won in 2015.

Oga read well again the deal was not signed by Adoke Jonathan's attorney general stating the disadvantages it would have in the country. Rather the deal was signed in 2016 by Malami and Osinbajo even with NBET's objections. Make una read before commenting

So Malami and Osinbajo would have acted before coming to the offices in 2011?

Are you that fractured that you can't reason again?

Oga the PRG was signed by Malami and Osinbajo in 2016 . The initial deal in 2011 couldn't take off because of addax pulling out

However educated & successful they are in business or their professions, most Nigerians don't take the time to analyse and think through agreements before signing them.

They can breeze through a 25 page agreement in 5 mins, and the next thing is, they grab pen and sign

Infact, once an agreement is more than 5 pages, they start complaining and asking...you expect me to read all these?

If the discos want to recoup their money they should abolish estimated billing and meter everybody or allow people to source their meter from d open market n install.then they monitor power theft like their life depends on it and serious sanction and penalty for defaulters.at d end they will recoup their money and their will be light.win win situation for all

Easier said! Even if every customer using power pays, DISCOs will have a shortfall as govt is not allowing DISCOs to charge market rates to consumers.

In addition, customers are stealing power! I know of someone who damaged the meter so that he will be returned to estimated billing. A welder on my street disputed the estimated billing he was given and refused to pay. He was advised to get a meter. He got one and within a few months wrote that they should come and disconnect and remove the meter. Claiming he want to be using generators for his business. He now do illegal connection when there is power during the day. I have a neighbor with a car painting business. He said the day they force a meter on his us the day the business closes. People are stealing power! Massively! It is to protect themselves that DISCOs like to do estimated billings for those that pay so that they can recoup cost of power used by those who don't pay from those paying.

The issue still lies with Disco and the government, let them force prepaid bill on every body in Nigeria even government agencies. then let them make it a criminal offence for any defaulter.

all of these is happening because the officials are corrupt, they refuse to give prepaid meter just so they can continue the stealing going on under the estimated billing. someone like myself won't pay for what i didnt enjoy. let them increase the tariff but make sure everyone have the said electricity
