Question is how do we explain that we have Osinbajo and Malami..... 2 SANs who should understand these contracts and agreements.......blindly signing off the country into a situation that was clearly not sustainable.

Simple, Accugas is definitely owned by some large interests that kept forcing the contract down the throat of the country.

The reality is that no company was willing to invest in supplying gas to Calabar power plant without a take or pay agreement.
The problem now is that Calabar power plant has a capacity of 561MW, but it's not generating up to capacity because the Distribution companies are not ready to take the whole power generated which they blame on poor revenue collection.
So the power plant is asked to generate below capacity, running 2 out of 5 turbines most times while the gas is available there, because the company has to recoup it's investment, the FG has to pay a percentage for not using the supplied gas while the citizens suffer lack of adequate power.

I know this because I work in the generation system which is frustrating to us watching what the Discos are doing to Nigerians angry

The DISCOs keep coming up with lies from poor infrastructure to poor revenue collection as the reason why the reject more 50 percent of electricity wheeled their way .. the pure truth is that most DISCOs are in reality in the business of selling darkness to their consumers under the guise of of estimated billing .. Forcing them to deploy prepaid meters will put and end to this ..I once heard the oga of Egbin power plant say EKo Disco once rejected more than 70% of the power wheeled their way

. In a November 21, 2016 memo to Marilyn Amobi, the NBET managing director, Ade Ipaye, the deputy chief of staff in the office of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, expressed disappointment that despite the signing of the PRG at the state house on November 3, 2016, NBET was yet to endorse three “vital documents” — (1) the GSA and related deed of amendment (2) the support agreement and (3) the reimbursement and credit agreement.
If you had read this part of the post, I would suppose you would not have commented that thrash you wrote up there. But I can understand your inability to reason properly embarassed embarassed

This one is just hellbent on criticizing Jonathan and his government....but so blind to see that the agreement was actually questioned by Adoke from the onset. That being said...it lingered until Buhari's regime took over....from the write up....one can see that it was actually Osinbajo that gave the final endorsement to the agreement. So dude....always try to comprehend issues before commenting so as not to sound foolish. undecided

Oga, take your time and read the post line by line. Everything is not politics ,(APC v PDP). Nobody is fighting you. It started under PDP but none of this mess would have happened if this govt did not sign.

The eventual go ahead that put the country in trouble was with Osinbajo and Malami signing even though those under them refused to budge.

Didn't you read that the Justice Minister under GEJ refused thrice to give an approval for the go ahead?

Just read the entire post thoroughly.

By the way, what makes it worse is that Seven energy was neck deep in Deziani/Aluko/Omokore scandal and this administration still signed. It's the same consortium.

Read this for clearer understanding:

In May 2017, NDPHC was cleared to sign the PRG by Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation.

Osinbajo, as chairman of the board of directors of NDPHC, then gave the anticipatory approval for the signing of the PRG, sending it for another endorsement by President Muhammadu Buhari who was on medical leave in the UK. Osinbajo was the acting president.

AND NOW, TROUBLE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR…

The handiwork of PDP under Jonathan .....

See dem..dull mofos! Before that default ailment starts clouding your vision, slow down and read! That agreement was roundly refused by Bello Adoke. It is Malami, Osinbajo and Buhari, despite all the red flags, that approved and signed the agreement that has pulled Nigeria into more debt. You need to first apologise for being too danned slow on the uptake!

Oga just keep shut and read the article again.
The former AGF under Gej rejected the contract many times, the trouble we are in now was signed, sealed and delivered by Malami and Osinbajo... Go back and read instead of disgracing yourself here.

I wonder why so called educated people come on Nairaland and won't take the time to read the post comprehensively before commenting.

If you can't read this short post, don't bother commenting.

Osinbajo and Malami signed the final agreement and that was when Nigeria became obligated.

Despite all the red flags spotted by NBET, NDPHC and even the World Bank over the likelihood that there would be a default, Accugas and the World Bank, in February 2017, approached federal government again with a proposal to sign the PRG agreement.

It is sad that we can generate enough power but gencos will not buy all because of revenue, is the government really our problem How do people use light and not want to pay. Met a top official of Ikeja distribution company and he told me that they can buy enough power to give everybody @least 20hrs power but the don't recoup d money from sales. I almost felt like crying
