Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport on Friday said he will not support Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State if he decides to run for the presidency in 2023.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Babatope said his decision is premised upon the fact that both he and Tinubu belong to different political parties.

According to Babatope, while Tinubu is one of the leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), he is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said he may reconsider his stance if Tinubu decides tomorrow to contest on PDP platform in the future.

“Tinubu is not of the same party with me, so my support or non-support is not important. He belongs to the APC while I am a staunch member of the PDP”.

“If he decides to join my party tomorrow, that is another thing. But right now, he will not seek my support because we are not in the same political party” he said

You are not making sense, that's how you people have left Lagos unattended to today.Everywhere you go flood, potholes, and refuse. If tinubu who is the self ordained Godfather in Lagos could not ginger policies that will lead to development of Lagos,is it Nigeria that he will develop?.
By the way Atiku cannot still and rub it to our face the way tinubu did with the bullion van.You guys are seriously bent on dragging us back to stone by encouraging an unapologetical thief and drug baron to rule over sane mind.
How can you pass Peter obi,Adesina of AFDB to vote a thief who has not impacted on the life of anybody.Abeg get sense and protect the life of your unborn generations.

People are allowed to exercise their electoral franchise without you calling them names undemocratically and condemning their choices. You are no better than all other adult to insult let alone judge their choices. I did not want Atiku I am democratic enough to know other Nigerians do. To therefore ensure who I want wins, i.e PMB, I swung behind my choice. Simple. You should do same and stop using emotional blackmail, scaremongering and bullying. It does not work with Nigerians anymore as we saw with PMB who they thoroughly thrashed and demonized in 2014 and agian in 2018 yet the man went on to win the 2015 and 2019 elections.

You should inspect your post again and consider how incredibly intolerant and undemocratic you sound. The many accomplished Nigerians who have endorsed Tinubu are bigots and petty criminals ba? You guys should just learn to back your candidate and meet others at the polls. That is what democracy should be about.

See, the post was a trap. You jump down my neck and that of others daily saying we should be fair to others and are insulting them too much yet you unravel as an intolerant, insultive and undemocratic person. Shown this fact you unrepentantly wrote "what you just wrote here is that facts don't matter to Nigerians anymore" as a defence of your utterance instead of you to just apologise for insulting and trying to brow-beat other adult with the right to make their own free choice same as you.

Madam, just exposing the hypocrisy of you holier-than-thou sort. It would have been classy for you to apologise. That might have shown you are sincere and just got carried away. Trying to justify your utterance, which is clearly wrong, condemnable and undemocratic, just shows who you are. Abeg don't quote me in future when I speak my mind on issues.

you are free to choose. It's a democracy...but I'm also free to analyse the character of those who would choose Tinubu. They are mostly bigots and criminals.

I don't care what you think and , by continuing to talk arrogantly, you are doing a good job showing you are an example of what you call others. For your info, the official definition of Bigot is:

a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.
Google it if you like.

What does this statement make you if not a bigot?

Only bigots and petty criminals will support a Tinubu presidency

In one fell swoop you intolerantly label others who wish to support Tinubu, and therefore oppose your own stance and opinion, as "bigots" and "petty" criminals. Rather than backtrack you continue to show incredible arrogance defending and even justifying your intolerant post. Next time say you won't vote Tinubu and leave it at that. Don't arrogate it upon yourself to conclude publicly and intolerantly that your opinion must be that of others.

Trust me, Tinubu will be well-supported ,if he runs, by many Nigerians across religious, ethnic, gender, occupational, wealth and class divide to include those in your household and direct/extended family if you are indeed Yoruba as you claim.

Bye. No need to continue this back and forth.
If you really felt hurt by my labeling of Tinubu supporters, take a moment now and reflect on the millions of igbos your insensitivity here daily hurts.
I rep team Osinbajo.

@Topic.

As usual, everything must be about hate and undemocratic prejudice for many Nigerians. Chief Babatope , unlike many here, never said he is opposed to Tinubu because he is a "thief" or "drug Baron" and such nonsense. He merely said he cannot support Tinubu because he is a staunch PDP man and the fact they are in opposing Party make it impossible for him to support Jagaban. He then said it would be a different matter if Tinubu were to join PDP.

See mature elders teaching us how to play democracy and politics without hate, emotion and animosity. This demonstrate why they are still in power while lazy youths continue to shout foolishly all day insisting on who must run and who must not based on speculation alone without understanding that their utterances violate the provision of the Nigerian constitution which allows any Nigerian to contest for elective public offices they are qualified to challenge for. Next minutes they will shout that youths are not being given a chance. Yet what do Nigerians youths offer if they don't even wish to understand and accept the most sacrosanct tenets of democracy one of which is that every man has the right to vote and be voted for.

There is no insensitivity to Igbos from me. I tell them the truth about themselves which is essentially that majority of Nigerians will not support Igbos to emerge at Party level talk less of national level because Igbos are highly unpopular, distrusted and disliked currently because of their own actions towards virtually all other ethnic groups in Nigeria. They show open hate and disdain for fellow Nigerians and now want to court the vote of those same people. Only a fool will not accept that this is impossible.

That said, I have never denied Igbos the right to contest and always challenge them to meet others at the poll if they can. It is their right as Nigerian but they cannot bully or blackmail the rest of us to sign-up for making one of them President against the democratic wishes of Nigerians.
They should test their popularity at the polls as we are all ready to do. Yorubas today are confidently saying "bring it on" as per Igbos taunting us they will back a Northern PDP candidate to ensure Yorubas are defeated if they cannot run. Those are the spiteful people you spend all your time defending.

Read my post well and you will note my bone of contention with Igbos. they disdainfully shunned the merger that birthed APC to remain in PDP clannishly because of Jonathan, at a time the PDP was very evil. They went on to demonise APC for 6 years singularly being responsible for christening the APC "Islamic Party", "Boko Haram Party" and other nasty aliases like that. They showed this hatred was real by failing to give the Party any significant support over two elections - 5% precisely. They now want to demand the APC Presidential ticket? They not only demand it but claim it is right for Yoruba APC to be denied the ticket for the sake of "equity" Is that not madness and will any patriotic and sensible Yoruba not remind Igbos of this?

My main message to Igbos is and remains that they should go and gain the ticket of the Party they have always worshipped and supported at the polls, i.e PDP, and meet the APC candidate on election day. Simple.

You are the one rationalising the intolerant and undemocratic drivel you wrote. In fact your response above and your obsession with always proclaiming Igbos right and Yorubas wrong does not mask the strong probability of you being another Igbo pretending to be Yoruba here. No one is fooled by your "Rep Osinbajo" antics. Your utterances and patent unfairness to your own so called ethnic group and automatic predilection for automatically supporting Igbos, wrong or right, just shows who you are.

Above, even when shown that many Yorubas bone of contention with Igbos is their attempt to reap where they have not sown via bullying and threatening others to get what they do not deserve, you have nothing to add but insult those who show you this reality. This really exposes you for the fraud you are. Pelle Madam "Yoruba" Jacksonkennedy. Yoruba online, and in general, are too smart for you guys. Meet at the polls.

If you are Yoruba, as claimed, and actually know other Yoruba you will understand many are not concerned with the Yoruba who will eventually runs on APC platform. It is Igbos obsessed with that because of their hate for Tinubu they consider a modern reincarnation of Awolowo. Most Yorubas will simply fall behind any Yoruba 2023 APC candidate as we have no weak hand currently from Tinubu, to Osinbajo through to Fashola or Fayemi. It is Yoruba Presidency we are working for not Tinubu presidency. Most Yorubas instinctively know this but not surprised you don't.
