That money is too small. Is there a development master plan for this project. A big project like that should have one. This is the 21st century. Any website to get updates?

Nobody said the amount will complete the entire work. The amount is just for works in the incoming fiscal year, probably more money may still channeled within the fiscal year if need be, while more appropriations will still follow in subsequent budgets towards the project completion.

Ok. Personally I think the airport won’t see the light of the day. It will be abandoned. He only has 2 more years remaining. Considering that he initiated this project back in 2014. Unless Obiano can do miracles. I hope he proves me wrong. I want to be wrong.

Also he must make sure that whoever takes over whether APGA or not must continue with the project. That’s a tough knowing how Nigerian politics is.

The project will be completed, at least the first phase. Let's keep our hands crossed. With dedication to the project it will be completed in 2yrs., even less. APGA is about Continue-Complete-Commission-Commence.

Nice thread I must say

But I have questions?
What are ur suggestions on the type of roads built in Anambra. Most time when roads are built they are usually left with sand deposits at the side walk way
Which makes the road ugly
and also why are drainage always open??
Why aren't the drainages always closed in correlation with 21st century city
Even trees are not even usually planted at the side of the road to beautiful them
Roads built are just usually left plain to look ugly. Then later the asphalt used to build the roads start depreciating in its look and making look like the road was never worked upon

For example as big as onitsha is, Its very hard to see roads with closed drainage or even pedestrian Lanes
Even the ones found usually look like you're walking a flight of stairs

The Second Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu Memorial Lecture

Good leaders are trailblazers, making a path for others to follow. They inspire their people to reach higher, dream bigger, and achieve greater. Suffice it to say that the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Eze Igbo Gburu Gburu and Ikemba Nnewi is, by all standards, a good and exemplary leader.

In view of these rare qualities, the Vice Chancellor of the citadel of learning named after this legend, Professor Greg Chukwudi Nwakoby, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff and Students of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, is organizing the second Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Lecture tomorrow, Monday, November 4, 2019. The lecture is to mark the birthday of the late doyen of Igboland.

Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu was born on November 4, 1933 at Zungeru in the present Niger state to Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, an Igbo businessman from Nnewi. Sir Louis was in the transport business; he took advantage of the business boom during the Second World War to become one of the richest men in Nigeria. Ezeigbo began his educational career in Lagos.

Emeka Ojukwu had his secondary education at CMS Grammar School, Lagos in 1943 at the age of 10. He later transferred to King’s College, Lagos in 1944 where he was involved in a controversy leading to his brief imprisonment for humiliating a white British colonial teacher who assaulted a black woman. This generated widespread coverage in local newspapers.

At 13, Emeka’s father sent him overseas to study in the United Kingdom, first at Epsom College and later at Lincoln College, Oxford University, where he earned a master’s degree in History. He returned to Nigeria in 1956.Chukwuemeka Ojukwu joined the civil service in Eastern Nigeria as an Administrative Officer at Udi. In 1957, after two years of working with the colonial civil service and seeking to break away from his father’s influence over his civil service career, he left and joined the military, initially enlisted as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in Zaria.

Ojukwu’s decision was forced by his father’s pulling of political strings with the then Governor-General of Nigeria to prevent Ikemba from getting an officer-cadetship. They however believed that Emeka would not stick to the grueling NCO schedule; but Emeka persevered.

It was not until an embarrassing situation between Emeka and a drill sergeant named Fort-Lamy wherein Emeka corrected the Sergeant’s mispronunciation of the safety catch of the Lee-Enfield rifle that the British Depot Commander recommended Emeka for an officer’s commission.

Emeka proceeded, first, to the Royal West African Frontier Force Training School, Ghana and Eaton Hall where he received his commission in1958 as a Second Lieutenant. He was one of the first and few university graduates to receive an army commission. Ojukwu was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1964 and posted to be in charge of fifth Battalion, Kano.

On Monday, January 17, 1966, then Lt. Col. Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed Military Governor of Eastern Region. By May 29, 1966, there was a pogrom in northern Nigeria during which Nigerians of southeastern Nigeria origin were targeted and killed. This presented problems for Odumegwu Ojukwu.

He did everything to prevent reprisals and even encouraged people to return, as assurances for their safety had been given. In January 1967, the Nigerian military leadership went to Aburi, Ghana, for a peace conference. The implementation of the agreements reached at Aburi fell apart upon the leadership’s return to Nigeria and on May 30, 1967, as a result of this, Colonel Odumegwu-Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria a sovereign state, to be known as BIAFRA. On July 6, 1967, Gowon declared war and attacked Biafra. Ikemba later left the country and after 13 years in exile, the Federal Government of Nigeria under Alhaji Shehu Shagari granted an official pardon to him and opened the road for his triumphant return in 1982.

Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in 1994, married former Miss Bianca Onoh (Former Miss Nigeria and ex Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain). On November 26, 2011, Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu died in the United Kingdom following a brief illness, aged 78. If he was alive, Ezeigbo gburu gburu would have been 86 years old today.

Until his death, he was the leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, having contested Presidential election under the party. In view of those outstanding accomplishments, the Anambra state government, in 2014, renamed the former Anambra State University to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

From the foregoing, it is obvious that Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was a shining star worth celebrating. Thus, everyone is invited to this epoch memorial lecture with the theme, ‘‘NDIGBO IN THE CONTEMPORARY NIGERIAN POLITICS: Problems, Prospects and Way Forward’’ tomorrow, Monday, November 4, 2019 by 11am at Chief Ben Nwazojie Law Auditorium, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus. Professor Kingsley Muoghalu will be the Guest Speaker.

Governor Willie Obiano is expected as the Special Guest of Honour, while Senator Ike Ekweremadu will Chair the event. You are all invited.

Ooni of Ife, 25 African Americans for Anambra Eri festival

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and about 25 African Americans from United States are expected to be in Anambra state for this year’s Eri festival in Enugwu Aguleri, Anambra East local government area of the state.

The traditional ruler of the community, Eze Chukwuemeka Eri who disclosed this on Monday to newsmen at his palace, said the event scheduled for Saturday would also attract other dignitaries from all walks of life.

He said the visiting African Americans were among 200 black Americans who have traced their root to the Igbo race following DNA test.

The monarch added that the visitors would be taken to the Aganabo Ezu n’ezu Omamala Confluence to pay homeage to Eri, the father of the Igbo race.

He said, “We have received over 200 African Americans who traced their root to Igbo. They come in batches every year.

‘This year about 25 are coming; the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi would also grace the Eri festival.

“The visitors will be taken to the Aganabo Ezu n’ezu Omamala Confluence to pay homepage to Eri, the father of the Igbo race”.

Earlier, Chairman of planning committee of the event, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka said the festival offered Ndigbo opportunity to retrace their root and unite with their ancestors.

“Igbo people inherited travelling from their forefather known as Eri who is said to have migrated from Israel and landed at Aganabo Ezu n’ezu Omamala River Confluence.”

He assured that all had been put in place including maximum security to ensure a hitch free ceremony.

Meanwhile there is a fire incident in Lagos right now, similar or even worst than the Ochanja market fire but I'm yet to see people including Mbaka calling for the head of Lagos governor like they did for Obiano.. Although these incidents are regrettable but God will continue to vindicate Obiano over the evil antics of the dying PDP merchants in Anambra...

In an effort to increase the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service AIRS as well as sanitize and rid the system of "fake revenue collectors" in Onitsha who divert huge sums of money meant for govt. These hoodlums prints all manner of receipt a d tickets thereby causing panic to the publics who have started blaming the govt of having hand in it.

To this end, the combine team of enforcement from the state IGR and the PPMO have seriously moved into the town to checkmate this ugly scenarios.

Recall that in my last defense on behalf of the IGR Englightenment team I stated categorically that the govt have been briefed over the issue and arraignment beign made to arrest the situation. Hence this enforcement.

As you know, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the state IGR, Dr David Nzekwu is leaving no stone unturned with a view to cussion these effect. So far arrest has been made. This sound as a strong warning to all the enemies if Ndi Anambra progress who indulge in this sabotage and criminal act to desist from it henceforth or risk the chance of being thrown into jail.

I don't really like solar street lights. They are waaay too dim because solar energy on one panel is actually not enough electricity to power a bright light. But, it's better than nothing.

However, more importantly, they can help improve the traffic situation by installing solar panel traffic lights at busy intersections / road junctions. These will help reduce traffic jams if offenders are apprehended and fined.

That’s a false economy....penny-wise-pound-foolish!

Instead of spreading the states resources too thinly, and delivering jobs that wouldn’t last, it would be better to use the states scarce resources on a targeted few prominent roads and do a quality job that would look good aesthetically and last for years!

Unless Obiano somehow finds how to fund that airport project and simply scale it down to a level of perhaps Port Harcourt Intl airport, i see another abandoned white elephant project as soon as he leaves office. It is just another Oba airport project loading, and another potential massive gully erosion site after they have cleared the vegetation and abandoned the project for lack of funds.

Some of us concerned about this airport project is because we know it might be way too big for Anambra State government to fund without significant borrowing , which will then ruin the economy of the state.

My borther,

I fervently hope you are right and Obiano would do what it takes to land the first plane there under his watch. If he thinks he can leave it even 99% completed and the next regime would complete it for him, then he better wakes up. We are all witnesses to the almost 90% completed Enugu International Conference edifice that has been abandoned for more than 15 years now. If Chimaroke had managed to complete it like he completed ESUT teaching hospital and ESUT, the edifice would have been in use today and all the money spent on it to bring it to 90% completion would not have been wasted.

Obiano should know that if that airport isn't completed under his watch, he can be guaranteed that it would be an abandoned project forever, just like the Oba airport. Whether he spent N6 billion or N60 billion would be immaterial if he does not complete it. It would simply be another abandoned N6 billion or N60 billion waste. I truly hope he understands that fact.
