Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been advised in his best interests to stay away from Nigeria except he is ready to continue his trial for treason charges.

The IPOB leader, who fled the country and has been in exile since September 2017, is seeking a return to the country for the funeral of his late mother.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT ON Friday, a senior presidential aide said Kanu will be deceiving himself if he thinks he can just “stroll into the country and go out after the funeral”.

“When a prisoner loses his mother and seeks permission to go and bury her, won’t the prisoner return to the prison after the conclusion of the burial?

“How then can a man who is standing trial and fled the country now want to return for the burial of the mother and say he will go back after the funeral? Is that logical? If he likes himself, let him come to Nigeria,” he said.

A former governor of Anambra state, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, had on Friday appealed to the Federal Government to allow Kanu travel to Nigeria for his late mother’s funeral.

Speaking in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Ezeife said the government should also make a promise not to harass or arrest Kanu throughout his stay in the country until he leaves.

Ezeife, who said the death of a mother is very painful, said he is happy that a lot of people have been calling on the government to allow Kanu come home.

“I am very happy to hear a lot of people supporting Kanu on this. This is the death of a mother, a very painful death. The federal government should allow him to come and make a promise that they will not harass him if he comes until he leaves,” he said.

Nnamdi has not been convicted, so I don't see why this stupid aid called him a prisoner! She probably has no clue the meaning of "prisoner".

No. They are just not lawless like you are. Kanu broke virtually all his bail conditions and then jumped bail. what fight do you want Nigerians to put up for him? Sowore left a bitter taste in the mouth of educated and morally upright Nigerians with how he wanted be a politician and when that did not pan out he decided to be a revolutionary because he is the latest generation of spoilt brats who want things on their own term and in their own time. Why will any educated Nigerian fight for such a fellow?

Truth is Kanu and Sowore are egotistical men who do not care about others and are only interested in their own agenda or Dog (in Kanu's case) and wise Nigerians have worked this out hence their apathy and even animosity towards the two.

MKN has never said he wants to come back for burial or whatever, some fools r just using him to gain good will with FG. So soon we forget that he was here waiting for trial when he was attacked by the naija army.. That's why getting true justice in this shit hole is impossible, elections r rigged b4 ur very eyes, politicians steal without remorse, but when common man collect small thing, he is jailed. No good policies have they made to better the masses, if the bill will not favor them, it won't be even read. 30,000 minimum wage is so hard for FG to pay but paying billions to senators 4 doing nothing is very easy.. Look at the Chief Justice of the federation, he knows nothing about Nigerian laws, but he is heading many san in the NBA..

Whether we accept it or not, Nigeria is a failed nation. Travel with a Nigerian passport and see the embarrassment u will get from immigration. Our once proud currency is now worst than Zambian currency.. Not to talk of Ghana..

We produce & give light to other people.. But in our country we don't have steady light.
We have oil & gass but we buy petrol and others at very high price..
We have one of the best land for farming & we farm. But we r one of the highest importers of food..
We have world class hospitals, but when our politicians r sick, they travel abroad even for simple headache
Nigerian university certificate can not even be Well recognized in Ghana not to talk of abroad.
The list is endless..
MNK is just a least of Nigerian problem.. If the Govt. Do things right, u will not hear anymore of MNK.. But it's a pity that Nigerians r dump & instead of being thankful to MNK for at least speaking the truth, they prefer to suffer and smile.. Until we wake up, Nigeria will get worse..
