How can you be "scammed" out of money that was never urs to begin with, I wonder?
If it's naivety and the ppl who refunded were scammed, they haven't lost anything cos it wasn't theirs to begin with

How can you not see that!

Are we that useless in this country?
Have our parents, trainers and guardians failed so woefully that 2019 children can no longer distinguish between right and wrong?

Only smart words from TV Shows and sharp tongue from internet savagery, no character whatsoever.

These are unrepentant thieves, masking as graduate trainee candidates!

Mr right and wrong, hope the money you refunded got to the right source. That's the main coco. That it may not be your money doesn't mean you should send it to scammers. Thank you for telling us your parents trained you very well and rest persons trying to be careful their parents didn't train them very well.

As a matter of fact it will very wrong for you send money that doesn't belong to you to someone whom the money doesn't belong to either.

Actually account was confirmed to belong to King and some folks even said its a respected account number at NNPC. However folks still labelled d ones dat comfirmed d authenticity as been part of d fraud scheme. But in d long run. People will always find excuse. Need to say, i dont actually tink returning d money or not will influence a candidate APL. As dat kind of error certainly originate from king and co, dey probably tried to cover dere mistakes.

This is not about right or wrong. It’s about being wise. Whether you returned money or not, both options are neither right nor wrong, and nobody should be praised for hurriedly returning money to a source that was not confirmed. Is it because of the desperation for job that people are becoming saints overnight at the expense of sound reasoning? Are we not Nigerians again—who are used to seeing 419 schemes here and there? How can you return money sent to an unverified source, and you keep defending that even if you were scammed, you did the right thing?

As for the payment, there is what we call luck. The fact that you didn’t work for some money or you didn't deserve some money does not mean you shouldn't keep the money. People were lucky to receive double payments and triple payments, and this is how life generally is. No applicant deliberately scammed people of their money; the money simply came to them from NNPC who promised to send transport allowance. Whether it would be a one-time or multiple payment was not mentioned.

For people like Dangote and Otedola, do you know how much luck and easy money that came their way? So you think Dangote would have returned any easy money he received in this life, saying he did not work for it and it shouldn’t be his money? I understand people are trying to form saints here, but it is getting to the level of foolishness. Even if NNPC made mistake, was there a general SMS or email to all applicants that those paid excess should follow a procedure to return any money? Before now, all of NNPC’s messages to all applicants were both SMS and email. So why do you think NNPC will just contact only a few of the people paid extra, via only SMS, and ask them to return money? People need think before they do anything. I will say it again; even if NNPC found out that they overpaid some people, don’t you think an organized establishment like NNPC could have counted their loss and moved on? As far as I am concerned, the administration of the NNPC did not issue any directive for people to return money. Opportunists(whether they are private individuals or even NNPC staff, I don’t care) used this chance to scam people. People need to apply wisdom in life. No matter how insignificant the money may be to you, you should not help fraudsters achieve their goal. Any other bullshit comments supporting returning money to scammers will have their nairaland account suspended by me. wink grin

If it was a scam, they won’t use that particular account. While I understand why some are reluctant to refund the money, a little due diligence hurt no one. I was among those that vehemently labeled it a scam until I got in touch with a friend that in work in a bank.

You cannot use that kind of account to run scam. The guy said it’s most likely an error from both the bank that process the payment or the one that authorized it as that kind of payment needs approval to go out.

Mr. wrong and wrong

That the money refunded will be misused by the wrong source is still not an excuse to keep what doesn't belong to you. It's like saying "I am a thief because if I don't steal stuff, someone else who wants to do evil with it will" At the end of the day u are still just a common, useless, dishonest, unconscionable, maladjusted, deviant T-H-I-E-F!

There are better ways to be careful and make sure it's not a scammer at work (like sending an official email to NNPC like some did, calling their official line, engaging them on social media etc.) than keeping money that doesn't belong to you!

Whoever trained you did a half-cocked job!

Being wise is knowing where to draw the line. Money that doesn't belong to you should NOT BE KEPT! - Thief

There are no two ways to it, no ambiguity here, stop trying to make urself feel better by speaking English. - Thief

You can advocate for confirmation of the correct account to refund the duplicate payments and go through official channels to achieve that, but don't try and sell the story of "I'm justified to keep another person's property because I don't trust anyone else to get it back to him/her" - Thief

It is desperation for a turnaround from our criminally irresponsible, fraudulent mentality that's making others with better training to cry out for you people to be better versions of your present decadent selves. It is not sound reasoning to keep what doesn't belong to you, it is criminal reasoning. - Thief

I repeat, you cannot be scammed out of what never was urs to keep anyways! If the source is unverified, take steps to verify it first, then refund the money. Don't just hide under the pretext of "there are many scammers in Nigeria, so unless NNPC officials visit my house, I won't refund" - Thief

The fact that the reasonable expectations/thoughts of everyone who received these dual payments was that they were duplicates invalidates your self-gratifying arguments on whether it was a mistake or NNPC's deliberately sending double payments. Luck is not keeping what doesn't belong to you, that is dishonesty and fraud. - Thief

Okay I think you guys have overflogged this issue. Let everyone do whatever they think is right, if you have returned yours, that is okay, if you haven't done so, it is also okay. Abeg let us drop the matter, the back n forth is gradually becoming irritating.

Anyone with credible info as regards APL release should drop it abeg, I am tired of these side shows.

The way some of you people think defies logic. Did NNPC officially specify the amount to be paid to applicants, what makes you think the repeated payments is not part of the TF compensation, Did(have) NNPC say(said) otherwise.... NNPC said there would be Tfare compensation, they didn't specify how much, Lagos as at 2012 was 40k, now 2019 will be 20k? Don't you think it is possible they are having an upward review of Tfare payment? Did you read the NNPC disclaimer that states NNPC will not require you to make any payment to anyone? Did you see the txt messages? Poorly constructed, not alligned with their normal structure and not uniform for all applicants it was sent to, with Funny headlines.....

You see, the way I was trained home training and Education(+personal development), Is to always ask myself questions, always find loopholes, critical analysis is key, did you read the news of Minister hopefuls(as at then) being scammed by some smart scammers.

If the payment was truly an Error NNPC should communicate to all affected using recognised channels. Why didn't they respond the the Emails sent to them. Be here be forming saint with no street OT, "giving some people reason to continue scamming"

Until NNPC does otherwise, nobody was paid twice anything you received from NNPC is part of your Tfare compensation, cause NNPC didn't specify to anyone how much to pay each applicants from which state as it applies, if NNPC has not paid you at all reach out to them via their their official handles.
Be saying it's not your money,

Be saying it's not your money,
says who
Be guided.

Okay I think you guys have overflogged this issue. Let everyone do whatever they think is right, if you have returned yours, that is okay, if you haven't done so, it is also okay. Abeg let us drop the matter, the back n forth is gradually becoming irritating.

[s]And the fact that you think anyone who acts above-board/better than you can only do so out of eye service is another sign of your training deficiencies....

Any other bullshit comments supporting returning money to scammers will have their nairaland account suspended by me. wink grin
