IgbereTV reports that he House of Representatives has called on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to suspend the policy of National Identification Number (NIN) as requirement for intending candidates. This came following a motion presented by Zainab Gimba (APC, Borno) who called on JAMB to review the policy on the use of NIN for prospective applicants until 2021. Leading the debate, Gimba said it was necessary for JAMB to review the timeline pending the establishment of more enrolment centres by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) across the country. According to her, an official of NIMC had recently disclosed that, less than 20 percent of Nigerians are captured in their database. She further expressed concern that, although Nigerians turned out to be captured by NIMC, “most have been hindered by infrastructural challenges like poor network, power failure, no power supply and sometimes inadequate manpower or equipment to attend to them”. Someone known to me very well who is an Urhobo from Delta State which is a catchment state for Uniport went to fill Bayelsa State which is an educational less developed state in order to increase the daughter's chances of getting admission into Medicine. On few occasions we see Emeka Uche with state of origin as Kano state all in a bid to beat the system. The linkage of NIN would have put a stop to all that. 38 Likes 6 Shares |

This is one of the most ill thought policy of Jamb, the age requirement for employment is between 24-28 and you want applicants to start writing from the age of 18. This to me is retrogression and amounts to adult education. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

otokx: Nigerians are not ready. This NIN thing also has serious security implication as it Carrie's a form of unique so ial security number. Serious countries do things with social security number, we are here sticking to old ways. Instead of talking to NIN to step up and help meet the deadline. And all the reasons that gave for suspending also applies to JAMB registration, e.g. if there is no internet network in an area for NIN how would there be internet network for JAMB registration. 7 Likes 1 Share |

anonimi:Is it the students that are causing insecurity in the country? Nobody is opposing NIN if the mechanism for enrolling is smooth and seamless. Go to any registration centre in the south west, you see countless number of people waiting on end to register. Some would have written their names the day before to be one of the first to be attended to the next day. 1 Like |
