Compare the challenges first.
If you are a driver and you own the car , Yes , meaning it is your personal business. If you a driver but deliver money to the owner , no. If you are a teacher , meaning you work under someone, except you are the owner of the school. I have done both before. When I was a driver , the car was mine, when I was a teacher, I taught both adults and kids but I was working under someone who pays me what we all call salary. But been a driver pays more. You make more money from been a driver if the car is yours but been a teacher you can also make money but both have different challenges you must face. For me , you be the one to decide , any way can give you money . Alubarika lo se Pataki ju.

Thanks djbussy, you really spoke from experience. Let me tell Op a short story. When I was driving I declined a job in the banking sector. You know why? Because I own the car. I was combing driving and my post graduate program though was not easy. Driving is very tedious and hazardous, you need to be tough to face those agboros, police and road safety. Driving for someone is hell I wouldn't advise you to that, you will always work your self out to meet up and please d owner. The salary for teaching is meager and should be less stressful compared to driving. Moreover, teaching will build and prepare you for the challenges ahead.

I'm a graduate learning Programming at the moment.

Since I can't learn coding on an empty stomach with no support from anywhere, I decided to take up a job as a classroom teacher in a primary school. The pay is #22,000 + lesson fee of #8,000 and I get extra #2,000 for the transportation cost of one of my pupils.

My monthly transportation cost is #8,000
Hence take monthly income is #22,000.

The perks of lesson notes and marking is killing me, besides shouting upandan in the classroom as I get home mostly exhausted.

Now I got a "connect" to drive for a car hailing service in Ilorin (like uber). According to the guy I spoke with, the pay is between #25,000 to #30,000 not yet sure, also there is a tendency that I may have to spend t-fare of #6,000 that is if I'm not allowed to take the vehicle to my place.
Which will bring the monthly down to #19,000 or #24,000

But I'd have time to rest and i won't get exhausted as usual

Hence my confusion. Should I go with the stressful job with a better pay or the less strenuous one with a lower pay. Also I'm considering the lifetime of the businesses due to the seasonal revenue of Ilorin, the school has a better chance of survival than the car hailing service job.

Please advise me.

One thing you mustn't ignore in your job is the joy, does it give you joy, do you enjoy it.... This is a question to ask yourself. It's not about the money first, it's about the enjoyment first, for if you enjoy what you do, you'd succeed in it: ideas breeds money, and ideas comes when you enjoy what you do. Don't wait to be sacked, due to reluctance, choose the one you'd enjoy more.

One way to break oneself is to force oneself to do what he doesn't enjoy doing.

Ah btw teaching and driving? I would go with teaching oh even if the driving pay is twice the teaching. Any job that takes u off the road is far better, being on a highway daily is like standing close to ur grave, forget all those talk of "na God dey save person o" and also the teacher is more respected in any gathering and organization at all and you have a better opportunity to land a better job in future than a scantily dressed driver.

I will still repeat boom na scam. Most successful folks came to the realization of this on time. And after making it big through the path of innovation they came back to just get a certificate to back things up.

God knows when I have my kids as they are going to the classroom school they are also learning one or two skills coz the future belongs to only those who can think deep.

If you still wanna dispute this, numbers and testimonies don't lie. You mention 10 renowned successful folks out there who made it through the so called school and I will mention 20 who made it before the so called school in all aspect of life (business, music, science and technology, sports etc)

Had a brother in a situation as yours choose driving instead of office work. It was in this job that he met his 'helper' who asked him to bring his CV to his office. The rest is history, he is a millionaire now.
I also know a lady (Graduate) who took hotel receptionist than another certain office backroom work. The rest is history also.
I will always choose a job that exposes me to people than the one that doesn't
I left my high paying banking job for a businessthat will expose me to people, even though the return was lesser than the office work, but today I can tell you I earn more than some branch managers. But in all this, it does not mean the other option isn'tfavourable and my explanations above is not total. So it's really up to you bro.

Choosing the driving job would give you more time for your programming and driving also has some side money you can get from it.

But who curse this country such that a graduate is left with these options ?
If he leaves the academic field he will be gone for good

Back to the topic. Op I feel the teaching job is better. The car business is a blind market to me because all terms and conditions are yet to be stated. What of maintenance, fuelling and other risk involved. I hope you won't hit someone but what if vice versa who will pay. And I believe the payment can't be fixed it depends on the number on passengers etc coz if its fixed all the drivers will just seat still. But the teaching though stressful will give you better time to work on yourself.

Goodluck with your hustle bro

....and you think graduates don't drive taxis or teach in the US, UK, Canada etc? One of the reasons for unemployment in Nigeria is attitude. Most Nigerians feel a sense of entlement, which is why you see terms like 'educatiion is a scam'. Education in itself, guarantees nothing anywhere in the world. You must be able to solve a problem. Graduated do all sorts of jobs...security guarding, sales assistant, data entry clerk, Care Assistant etc in developed nations. And these are natives. When they reel out their employment figures, it includes these people...a good number are underemployed. The statistics is usually based on those not collecting unemployment benefits. Collecting the benefits while working even part time can take you to jail. Compare with Nigeria where those teaching in private schools, work as security guards, shop assistants, taxi drivers etc or even farming, claim they're unemplyed

On the Op's question, I think teaching would build his capacity better than driving. And I don't really think driving is actually less sressful than teaching. He can look for an accomodation close to the school and reduce his commute.

Are you sure its less stressful? Sourcing for passengers working from morning till evening a times night than a classroom teacher where he sits and can he check some programming stuff on his free period. I feel for anyone tryna build a career and work along side teaching z a better option than driving.

You have a point.
