the word Donor only comes about when you are needed to donate blood and as far as genotype is concerned it's not a needed parameter for donation

You've raised valid points. Some of them is why I don't feel excited with the word 'compulsory' used in the bill.
To add some few points, there should be increased awareness and enlightenment of the public on the sickle cell traits. And this topic or bill would have been very interesting to debate on. For example, what if couple decide not to have children and both are AS? Some will say how can? But there could be situatios, for example, a woman that decides to get married after menopause due to many reasons. How about those that don't have uterus? So they should not get married cos their intended partner is AS as well? I believe the bill should be revised. Rather than compulsory, they can use highly recommended. Just as you pointed out, so religious bodies will no longer join a man and woman, which is upheld in their different doctines?
I appreciate also the fact they are thinking in this direction to reduce or eliminate the incidence of sickle cell anemia in the nearest future.

I am not an health personal - But I am AC.

AC is similar to AS, as I was told. So it means AS and AC are not compatible!

Misplaced priority, we have more pressing issues in need of immediate legislation and they're here passing genotype test bill. And to think we do not even have free health care in place; SMH for these guys.........Bills like minimum wage implementation, affordable housing etc will never see the light of day with them

It’s not every Nigerian that marry to procreate or have the desire to choose “continuation of their lineage” over companionship. I know two AS couple that have children through AA sperm donor. Some couples adopt.

Instead of the government to budget more money to improve stem cell research. Bone marrow transplant is more successful and less painful when the sickle cell patient is a child. Do more in awareness (people should know their status) like they did for AIDS. They would rather deny people of marrying whom they love.
