By hanging her out to dry, they have generated even far worse publicity. At least to international audience.

Unless of course they know they operate in a hypocritical medieval society long left behind by civilised world. I guess they tailored their action to suit that environment where things operate upside-down. shocked shocked

In Yankee not if they know it was leaked by someone else without her consent.
Yes, I cannot understand why people record themselves having sex. But still it's not illegal. Law and society should always protect someone who has broken no law. Simple.

My brother all these hypocrites castigating the girl, if you x-ray their private lives, most are far more sordid. Is it not the same 9ja where about 30% of kids belong to another man outside? Is it not men who kpensh wives of their friends, of neigbours, of fellow church members or colleagues they know are married?

Just be looking at them.

This silly "morale high ground" attitude makes us lag behind and fail to legislate for new situations that our laws may not fully cover yet. We blame victims.

Very soon they will be blaming victims of kidnapping or armed robbery for not being careful enough. shocked shocked

You dey mind them...my grouse is even about the school management claiming what they are not...the same way foursquare dissociated themselves from #sexforgrades issues... We are humans and not robots...it is highest level of maturity when you accept responsibilities... So when another sextape pops up again...they'll expel and release press statement, quickly dissociating themselves....on & on & on... Mehn!!!... Its crazy....as for me, the issue is yet to be addressed....

American's Opinion: If the act didn't take place on school grounds, then the girl should not be suspended. Hope the girl is in good spirits, this shouldn't of happened. undecided

They wouldn't have expelled the girl from the school. The girl in question did that when the school wasn't in session and as well not in the school premises, and kept the whole thing secretly for herself. The guy that leaked the video should be punished according to law.
This is what the law said:
Revenge porn and the Nigerian perspective
In Nigeria, we have had a lot of revenge porn cases on the internet especially these past years of internet uproar. The Criminal Code Act and the Cyber-crimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015 are the Nigerian enactments covering the field on the issue of revenge porn.
A strict review of the criminal code act will show that there are some traits of revenge porn. However if it is done outside the internet, then the criminal code act may apply otherwise this section cannot apply to it. Section 170 of the criminal code act provides;
Any person who knowingly sends, or attempts to send, by post anything which;
(a)encloses anything, whether living or inanimate, of such a nature as to be likely to injure any other thing in the course of conveyance, or to injure any person; or
(b) encloses an indecent or obscene print, painting, photograph, lithograph, engraving, book, card, or article, or which has on it, or in it, or on its cover, any indecent, obscene, or grossly offensive words, marks, or designs; is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for one year.
From the above provision it is clear that this applies to anything sent by post. However, this section, particularly paragraph (b) relates mostly to revenge porn although in adopting the literal rule reading of this, it applies only to messages by posts. Some persons may argue that this applies to revenge porn while others may not it is however left out to the discretion of the court to decide. Arguably, it can be said that this enactment was made in an age where social media and the internet space were not prominent.
With the enactment of the Cybercrimes Act of Nigeria 2015, the act touched a great portion of grey areas; the issue of revenge porn was entirely covered. Section 24 of the Act provides;
(a) Any person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or network that is grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character or causes any such message or matter to be so sent; or
(b) he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be sent: commits an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not more than N7, 000,000.00 or imprisonment for a term of not more than 3 years or to both such fine and imprisonment.

But imagine if Babcock came out with a press statement saying they will be taking court actions against people who leaked the video and support the lady in question to justice against those who are using it to shame the lady.

Imagine they say although they hold morals in high regard, they also understand that she did it on holidays and they will make sure they set an example of those who are hiding to cause trouble and shame the woman for something that is not a crime.

Not every time try to remove yourself; sometimes shake and break tables. Show support and strength and stand for justice.

Sometimes be remembered for staying on the side of justice instead of triggering your flight emotion

but if they don't, it is still okay. They have a right to protect their name, identity and brand

I actually thought the incident happened in skol??!! If it didn’t Babcock agu’s better retract their hypocritical statement. She broke no skol laws and what happened was a private thing that went out against their will I believe. The skol May scold her only after investigation and finding her negligent of anything bt expelling her for her private life outside skol which got leaked they must be crazzy, hypocritical and ignorant as a skol if learning.

I will only support Babcock if that incident happened in the skol premises pls cos that would be totally wrong. They didn’t commit a criminal offense.

Where you are wrong is that a school first and foremost supposed to protect the student and either you like it or not the girl is a victim. She may be stupid but she is a victim and as far as we are concerned, she did not break the rules of the school. Sex between adult outside a school is not a crime, is not like she steal or kill someone. A video meant for there eyes that got leaked is a violation of her privacy. And either you like it or not her action have no effect whatsoever on the school.
And how will you compare school institution, a place for teaching and learning to work place that pays you salary. So u saying if you and your guy have sex and stupidly make a video and it got leaked, ur office and any other association you know should disown u. Just 4 making a stupid mistake. Na wa oo

This is just sad, they could have definitely handled the situation better. Expelling the girl isn't the best decision. I mean we really lack human feeling in this country. Yes mistakes were made, I personally feel the exposure of the act online is punishment enough. They could have thrown in a suspension in there too if they are so inclined but expulsion is just wickedness really.

This is something that did not occur on campus and the school wasn't in session. No crimes were committed. According to the law what happened was legal, although stupid but legal all the same. Babcook name was dragged through the mud, but they could have redeemed themselves in a more humane way.

Suspend her if you must but help her too. Give her counselling in this very emotional and depressing period of her life. Help her pick herself up and be better. So much pain, anger, depression and ultimately crimes could be avoided if we only help each other and not push people aside as useless beings. But what do I know.

Can the girl on her own even stay in that school again after this incidence?

All this you wrote would have come into play if the girl in question was under duress or secretly recorded without her consent. It would have been easier for the school to defend her and protect her but that is not the case here.

If she wants to get justice ,she can pursue the case on her own. But since she willingly made the tape the school reserves the right to dissociate themselves from her. It might not be fair but its business and many corporate organisations do it to protect their brands. What is ethical in business may not be moral ,but then business is business and the school has a business to run.

So a school girl taking a diiicck from behind and swallowing every single drop of sperm deserves to be protected?

"Protected " kill you dia.

The girl was even looking at the camera and then adjusted the guy so that the camera could capture her as she swallowed the cum.

Imagine protected!

It's not even as if she wasn't aware that she was being recorded the whole time. The babe even adjusted her face so the camera can fully capture the act

the sex to me is not the stupid thing. It's the recording it in this era of sextape scandals flying up and down the internet

I've seen companies revoke their ambassadorial deals against celebrities that didn't even do as much as these

It's all about maintaining their brand.
The school were within their rights to do the needful by expelling her
Sorry to the girl...But next time she'll think it through before going to a rehab centre to swallow the cum of a psycho

In all these, that girl will be shipped abroad, she will review her life in a new environment, stress less and make better grades in a safe and regular environment, have as much sex as she wants, swallow all the cums that she wants, get a good job and better pay and stall head and shoulder taller than most people here eulogizing a school that should have protected her own and still make a case for decency. In the final analysis it depends on the side of the fence where you find yourself. God help each one to his own but no one holy pass.

I have read comments on this thread from page 1 to 11 and I discovered the following:

1. Most people justifying the action of the girl may not likely do what she did.

2. Most people commenting here are still young adults who do not seem to know what happens especially outside the four walls of either their institution or environment.

3. Some of those that are saying the girl in question should sue the school claiming she has the right will come to Nairaland someday and say " my employer has been owing me for 8 months, what should I do? or " My employer has not been remitting my retirement deductions to my PFA, what should I do?

4. Hardly has anyone put themselves in the position of the parents of the girl. If you are a parent, may be you will understand better.

5. The best comment so far to me is that fellow that said " that is why most of them are un-employeable".

6. There is the need for our youth to really know that there is a thing line between love and stupidity.

7. The easiest thing to do when tragedy befalls another person is to point out the errors and mistakes the fellow made.

8. Nobody seem to have given it a thought that Babcock has a legal unit or dept that would have thought it out well before recommending the expulsion of the girl. Some of the people in this dept are more qualified than the baby lawyers on this forum and those that are using their knowledge of 100l law to postulate.

9. If I continue with this, most people will not read the comment.

Truth is your employer will sack you for a lot less than this.

Victim my black nigerian a.s.s ! She's a perpetrator and not a victim..she was not raped...she's not a minor....she and he(the fu..ck..er and the f.uc.k.ee) are solely responsible for their action...and should take responsibility. She knew a camera was before her...or rather was being video...yet she willingly opened her nya.sh to be fu..c..ked without hesitation and you want to claim she's the victim? Victim of what exactly?
