A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of working against the interest of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just-concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State.

In a short Facebook post sent by his media aide, Mansur Ahmed, the former governor said Mr Jonathan supported the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC candidate in order to avoid probe in the famous Malabu oil scam.

“And finally compromising Bayelsa State with the Malabo oil 1billion Dollar scam for his freedom!,” Mr Lamido posted.

Malabu Oil Deal

The Malabu oil scandal involved the transfer of about $1.1 billion by Shell and ENI through the Nigerian government to accounts controlled by a former Nigerian petroleum minister, Dan Etete.

About half the money ($520 million) went to accounts of companies controlled by Aliyu Abubakar, popularly known in Nigeria as the owner of AA oil, suspected to be fronting for top officials of government and Shell and ENI collaborators.

According to a PREMIUM TIMES report, the transaction was authorised in 2011 by Mr Jonathan through some of his cabinet ministers and the money was payment for OPL 245, one of Nigeria’s richest oil blocs.

Although Shell and ENI initially claimed they did not know the money would end up with Mr Etete and his cronies, evidence has shown that claim to be false.

Shell, Eni, Mr Etete, Mr Aliyu and several officials of the oil firms are being prosecuted in Italy for their roles in the scandal.A British judge had also said she was convinced the ‘fortunato’ referenced in various OPL 245 mails referred to Mr Jonathan.

Jonathan has his shortcomings/corruption but this does not mean this man whose two sons have long been indicted for corruption by the EFCC should embark on this self righteousness & egocentric image laundering

From PTF to The Buhari Organization (TBO), Buhari has consistently protected corrupt close aides from the consequences of their ethical and legal infractions.

This attitude of mollycoddling corrupt but loyal aides and appointees while pretending to be a man of “integrity” who is “fighting” corruption is getting worse by the day and indicates that, in spite of self-righteous declarations to the contrary, Buhari is himself morally indistinguishable from his crooked cronies.

It is impossible to deploy the resources of logic to argue that Buhari has integrity. He doesn’t. Well, unless integrity means something to Buhari supporters other than what it actually means in the English language.

Sule Lamido is trying to get back at Goodluck Jonathan because he believes that his best chance of having a good shot at presidency in 2015 was made impossible by PDP hierarchy's blanket endorsement of Jonathan as unopposed PDP Presidential candidate.

The truth is that given Sule Lamido's bloated opinion of himself, he would not have taken the smallest slice of degrading way Seriake Dickson treated Jonathan. Unlike Jonathan who simply withdrew peacefully into his shell, Sule Lamido would have made the state hellish for Dickson.

Jonathan sometimes act politically naive.
He should just resign from partisan politics and become a states man. He should have supported a smaller party in bayelsa and not the APC. His actions will hunt him in 2022 when he tries to interfere in matters of PDP.
Bayelsa will have far telling consequences. And this consequences are what have began to manifest with Sule Lamido allegation.

PDP only agrees that a member is corrupt when that member either decamps to another party or shows sympathy with another party. Check the cases of Amaechi, Akpabio, Obanikoro, Omisore, Gej and many more too numerous to mention. These people have also been known by Nigerians to be very corrupt but PDP kept protecting them. But immediately they change ship, PDP finally agrees with the corruption toga that has been hanging over them for years.

Our President has always been a statesman. You can be a statesman and still be in partisan politics. He is the epitome of new politics as it should be played.

Not mudslinging, intimidation and ballot snatching.

Those that betrayed Gej in 2015 thought that buhari would not contest in 2019. no vacancy till buhari dies because third term is a possiblity and buhari:would support his core loyalists to become president and vp not just any apc members.
people like sule lamido and others denied themselves chances of ever becoming president or vp.
