My Experience With Going Back To My Former Workplace. by purples25(f): 3:16pm On Nov 27, 2019
I got a job last year at a private school. I was given the position of a receptionist. To be fair to this narration, i wasn't a very good receptionist because though I tried my best, what i studied had nothing to do with my job. I did my best to get the hang of the job, but i constantly forgot things i was supposed to remember, though i always did the basics.

I did my best to make up for my defects. Being a nursery and primary school i noticed they needed help with their artworks and since I am good at drawing, anytime there was no work on my table i did a lot of artwork for events or which the school needed for decor. They appreciated it so much and gave me a lot to do which unbelievably the parents were told their kids did it all.

I tried to have a good relationship with my boss and all. For her bday we did a large card and i was the one that crafted it in two days. I even told my boss about academic issues i had and how i planned to go back and fix everything next year.

I was afraid to rock the boat i was nice to everyone, to make up for my many efficiency defects. They even complained of how docile i was at times.

The time reached that my boss was unable to cope with my other deficiencies despite my attempts to make it up. She took up what i told her about leaving next year and said no, i have to leave by june/july, it would not be convenient for her if i leave by december.

Okay, i left.

They said i should be coming to visit, all is well. My family was against that. I was warned that i might be humiliated but i still went to the school to visit.

The proprietress gave me a deal that I should negotiate with them and continue doing artworks for them. I was very happy. I came back to the school and did some artwork , got paid and left..

Fast forward till today, i was given another deal on Monday, i was told to come on Wednesday to do the job. That same Monday, i was told by some teachers there that there wasn't supposed to be any negotiation that i should be doing those things for free, that we are family,im not a real artist. Still, i was expected to come today and do the art stuff.I still came since the deal was still on and the boss hadn't actually said i wasn't recieving payment today.

I went there and guess what, the proprietress was with those two teachers that said those things to me on monday. She asked me why i came to visit, as if there was no deal today. They all just kept quiet and ignored me. I gathered courage and asked " how about the art job and the deal i was supposed to be paid for? " The proprietress just said there was nothing. They could have called me to tell me but no, it was sweeter to have me arrive, look like a beggar, ignore me and then tell me bye in high snobbish voices as i was leaving. Why did they humiliate me?

So sorry about that. People like free things. They want you to be doing it free of charge for them.

Sorry

Thanks. Even if i get employment in another place, once i leave i am not coming back. They didn't even tell me the deal was off, they let me come back and then ignored me. It wasn't enough that they let me off the main job early and i still came to do something small. It was just that they wanted me to look like i needed them, they needed the last memory of me to make them look superior. I dont blame them. I could have left and never come for anything but they had to do it this way, ignoring me.

Yes. I may even be out of the country by next year. Find my feet while staying with relatives, start studying there. If my family changes the plan of sending me there, arrangements have been made for me to start over here. I went to the university of abuja but had serious issues with my result, couldn't be transferred to another uni, so after going to the university for how many years, had to start over.

Sorry about that, it's really not easy starting again. Your best option is studying outside because the land here is dry and hard.

If you must start over here, please, make it a private school since age isn't too friendly right now.

Wish you Goodluck not Jonathan.

You have no visible talent in your place of work and you also lack the fundamentals of common sense. You place no value on yourself and like a coin, you are being tossed and teased out of position, comfort, and schedules.

Anyone who offers no value receives no respect and anyone who places no worth on self will not be prized.

A fine artist with creative imaginations and the ability to draw but lacks the power to draw herself out of her own shadows.

With the eyes of a goddess and a nose chiseled into fine lines, you have both the incredible power of looks and creativity. Dont let anyone treat you like trash.

Anyone who offers no value receives no respect and anyone who places no worth on self can never force the hands of others to do same.

i blame myself for going back. I was trying to be humble making no real deals. My fam said just for little money that im risking humiliation. I blame myself really. And to a large extent you are right.

Sorry to burst your bubble but if you cannot perform basic admin tasks associated with being a receptionist then what hope is there for you in any sort of white-collar job? Sorry to be blunt but the skills you need as a receptionist is a starting point for ALL other roles.

I cannot deny that, like i said, i'm improving on myself. I just dont like the way i was treated even after leaving. The experience from this job will guide me on how to handle the next.

Lesson learnt.
Experience gained
Brace up and win your battles.
Life is in phases.
You are now a better person.
We must always learn to see the positive side of every negative experience if we want to grow from playing the victim card to become real winners. Everything happens for a reason.fools would only cry,
But The wise ones are inspired.
Most of the achievements I have made so far are results of some negative experiences I had had in the past.. Most times, those things happen to us so that we can sit up and improve our conditions. I could have bn down there if not for the challenges of life.

Identify the skills you lack, try to learn them via online courses and some other convenient means. The truth is you're going to need them later in your work life. I can deduce you seriously lack negotiation skills and you're going to need that to get to the peak of any career you settle for.

If you have pictures of the art works you did at the school, you can use that to get yourself offers from other schools or individuals that might need your service.

My sis, take it as one of those things we see in life that gives us experience and testimony for the future.

Get a better skill and they will come cap in hand begging for you to attend to them
