Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Wednesday, embarked on inspection tour of the Enugu residence of the former Premier of the Eastern Region, Governor General and first President of Nigeria, the late Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, recently renovated by his administration and furnished/decorated with personal effects of the Nigerian statesman as a monument and rich heritage of the state. It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi, in his first term in office, paid the first official visit by a sitting governor to the Onuiyi residence of the foremost nationalist and great son of Igboland, Dr. Azikiwe, in the University town of Nsukka, since after his death in 1996, where he promised renovation of Zik's Lodge at Enugu, to serve as a monument and tourist attraction. Gov. Ugwuanyi was led round the renovated and well-equipped edifice by Zik's son, Mr. Uwakwe Azikiwe, who incidentally is the governor's Special Adviser on Special Duties - an encounter that reawakened memories of the sage’s political activities during the First Republic. The governor was also accompanied by the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, among others. Enugu State is in the hands of God. ## 10 Likes 2 Shares

kettykin: What exactly did Aguiyi Ironsi do for Abia or Igboland for that matter? Ot just honor him because he was an accidental Head of State and carelessly lost his life leading to an unprecedented slaughter of Igbos out of being totally careless and stubborn to heed advice that a counter coup was coming. Yet, he carelessly went to Ibadan proving silly bravado. Where was Nnamdi Azikiwe during 1967 to 1970 civil war? I have been asking myself this question. This man went into hiding during those years just to save himself. And the war was dealing mercilessly the IBO's as at the time. I agree he was just a ceremonial president earlier but he didn't use his statues as former head of state to help his people. Why did Azikiwe accepted the appointment made by Ahmadu Bello to be Ceremonial President as against the Southern Unity being Preached today? Why did Nnamdi Azikiwe support the break up of Western Region, with NCNC conniving NPC to create Mid-Western Region (Present Day Edo and Delta States), while the Northern and Eastern Regions remained intact? Was is it to bring to halt the Geometric Progression of the Western Region as against the other region on slow developments? Because as at 1962, Western region was already having three Universities, while each other region had one each. Where was the Ceremonial President Azikiwe during the First Coup that led to Killing of Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa , Ahmad Bello, Premier, and other northern and western leaders?
