betterview3:CT is supposed to pick up the nerve (and stones). Have you tried MRI? Ultrasound should pick up the stones. Have you tried seeking a second opinion? And have you eaten live yoghurt culture to get your gut flora back to normal after all those antibiotics? Have you checked your prostate? |

midnighter:Didn't do MRI. I did 2 ultrasounds at separate places including a teaching hospital. Did endoscopy too. Could you recommend any yoghurt brand? Is it different from normal yoghurt? Like Aqua Rapha yoghurt? |

midnighter:CT is only good for bones and stones. Anyone that tells u he was able to sufficiently see the nerve in CT must be a magician. US should only be able to pick up stones in the Gall bladder and not the kidneys. Pls let's form the habit of confirming things before we post. |

drnoel:You can't detect a trapped nerve with a CT scan? Not that you can see nerves. I didn't say that. I was actually referring to the bladder and not kidney. Otherwise I would have called them kidney stones. Ultrasound can show bladder stones but CT is better for very tiny ones. Otherwise I think there are some palpation tests the clinician is supposed to do before it gets to all the scanning. And then treat with some analgesic injections (if it's nerve related) This is more like excluding other possibilities than looking for something in particular Or what do you suggest? |

betterview3:Did the doctor use his/her fingers to push your stomach? There's a test they do that tells them where the pain is coming from It's not that commercial Hollandia yoghurt, it's natural yoghurt with particular bacteria in it. I think they sell "Activia" brand on Jumia, you can check there |

midnighter:Yes, I have been placed on the bed and examined several times by pressing my abdomen to feel where the pain comes from. But it's not really from one place. It's just like touching a part of pot on fire to check where is hot. My whole stomach hurts. Thanks for the recommendations. |

betterview3:Hmm! It's a toughie. I'm sorry for your issue, hope you find a solution By the way I hope you have dewormed yourself recently? You're welcome, also try shoprite/spar and look for "Greek yoghurt"/"natural yoghurt"/"live" |

midnighter:Yes I do agree the physician must have to examine and exclude before even a CT is done as regards disc prolapses and what not. But as regards Stones (Kidney, Ureter and Bladder) the CT definitely has sufficient role to play for very small stones. Funny enof some centres still do normal plain x-ray +/- dye injection (IVP). It depends on who u ask cos every hospital have their own method. |

betterview3:Then if sonography found nothing it's then time to bring in the big guns and try a CT with contrast media. That could give a definitive answer to Ur query. But also note that while still looking for answers and taking advices of people here as regards yoghurt and what not their are other forms of things that could cause abdominal pain that one may not see on CT or US. Then again anything that could cause pain when a clinician applies pressure on the abdomen should and could be detected by conventional means of examination. |

drnoel:Everything was normal according to the surgeon at UNTH where it was done. Nothing was found. It was upper endoscopy. |

drnoel:I did a CT scan with contrast. I have the plate and film. The radiologist, who owned the centre was a prof at UNN. He said my ailments were in my head. And asked whether I wanted MRI. Although he didn't have the machine in his clinic. The consultant gastroenterologist at UNTH said the CT result was okay. That everything is okay structurally. He wasn't patient enough though to check other things. Although he gave the impression that other things could be wrong. I am just tired. |

betterview3:They should have ordered an MRI to be sure cos it could have been Crohn or ulcerative colitis which could be seen on MRI. Or it could be irritable colon or sprue which maynot be seen in some cases |

This issue of endoscopy caught my attention. Doc just told me today to go for endoscopy. The top of my head is always hot, I have sore throat, heartburn. Doc said I have GERD. Doc said i should use omreprazole and cimetidine, I used them and heartburn subsided but sore throat and upper head hotness remain but sometimes heartburn still occur and I use antacid to suppress. All these started November 2019 and since then till now, my life is miserable. I can not eat anything reasonable. All triggers of heartburn have been avoided yet sore throat, upper head hotness and heartburn(subsides when antacid us used) still occur. Norland gastroinstetinal softgel was suggested by another doctor, all these complaints subsided in the course of using the first bottle, after completion, am having symptoms again. Though planning to buy another Norland gastrointestinal softgel bottle again. I have done H.Pylori test (negative), sugar level (normal), bp (normal). Will this endoscopy be my final Bustop because I have tested alot of money. I am in Ogun state and I learnt Babcock University and Osuth that offer endoscopy. Does anyone know how much endoscopy is? |
