The Nigerian government has raised alarm concerning the stealing and replacing of clips, bolts and knots on the Lagos/Ibadan rail line.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, said 5,000 clips and 10,000 bolts as well as knots had been replaced along the rail track.

Mr. Fidet said, “You can’t imagine that between Lagos and Ibadan, we have replaced over 5,000 clips and close to 10,000 bolts and nuts on the track and it is not a good thing at all.

“Without those things on the tracks, accidents can occur.

“We know the volume of passengers on a train. So vandalism of rail infrastructure has to stop.”

He added that government would still go ahead to extend the Lagos-Ibadan line to Kano in three years.

The Nigerian government has in the past 10 years sunk over 4 billion dollars in its railway sector with the hope of reviving and sustaining the sector.

An accident waiting for happen.
If the train running at 60 to 80km/hr or above details because of buckling caused by missing nuts, you can predict huge number of fatalities.

The average Nigerian man is inherently wicked. Even to himself.

Hunger and lawlessness at play. Plus if we had a disciplined leadership from 1960 till date, we would have long had sufficient, steady electricity to power our trains and no goat or cow will venture there cos they'd be electrocuted. There'd also be functional CCTVs and honest, loyal, patriotic law enforcement officers that will man those cameras, arrest any would-be thief and have them prosecuted/rehabilitated. In fact with steady power supply and decent infrastructure, no one will be looking for bolts and nuts to scavenge off rail lines. They would be far more productive!

Bottom line: Nigeria has failed and continues to fail her citizens.
Ok what have you done to better yourself in defeating the system, or did your parents fool you into believing that the Nigeria dog eat dog State was going to do anything for you?

FG and States should learn to invest in their people. You can't be constructing infrastructure without improving the welfare and literary of the people.

The dwindling economic opportunities and deteroriating economic situation in the country must be addressed if any project is to be successful

How do you see the sharia States in Nigeria and their Governors and people? So you mean that those sharia States are free from crime. The sharia law is only used to punish the poor and defenceless.

Is sharia government applied in the USA? It is not so in any of the top ten happiest countries. What we need is reorientation .

You are trying hard!! Please electric train does not mean the rail line have current flowing in them.
Regarding CCTV, I guess you will put 1 million+ camera from Lagos to Kano to Bornu to Abia to Calabar.....and also put TVs to monitor all of them and employ as many eyes??Kindly read up, than exposing your ignorance online.

Keep the the train tracks active and maybe the rate of theft will reduce.

The same goes with the Discos who will always complain about vandalism of electrical installation

Keep the power lines and transformers energized and see whether anyone will go and cut cable

This is terrible and should be condemned. All sections of the country must be developed to encourage patriotism. Not one or two parts at the expense of anothers. It is easier to destroy than to build.

What are you saying tori olohun. We clamoured for this for long, now we get it only for some slowpoke to vandalise it. Yet you are here blaming the government for the actions of these slowpokes.

Ethiopia has spent far less than Nigeria on rail infrastructure and yet has more results . Do your research and ask why. Nigerians really just love to loot. $4bn HABA!

The colonialists made a mistake. No Nigerian leader no matter the tribe can correct it except they are bold enough to do the needful.
