Normally, anyone caught vandalising Federal property ought to be prosecuted for their selfish actions. Yet, how can the present political class begin to talk about the criminalities of the vandals when they themselves are wrecking ours and the next generations legacy.


Once our leaders can stop being selfish and self-centred and start acting as the public servants that they are really supppse to represent, then we can all come together to stomp out these senseless acts of vandalism.

Vandalism can be stop in its tracks within a single year, by ways of public vigilance (not vigilante but vigilance), geniune reforms of our security and judiciary systems that will enable the neccessary trust that is needed to tackle the mindset of unpatriotic behaviour aswell as genuine reforms in our leadership and political systems.

There needs to be a genuine overhaul of our political system and most of the present political class ought to be ousted and issued a "life disqualification" from holding anysort of public office ever again.

With the support of all our security forces and judiciary systems, usher in a youth program that's sole purpose is to mould the type of leaders that we all need and want.

Once these patriotic and religious neutral candidates are ready to compete for office, the Treasury should sponsor the once chosen by these systems and from them we choose our new leaders.

Basically, these new candidates will be under the control of all Nigerians, given that we would've been involved in their progress at every step of the way, and they would know not to mess up our legacy as they will be ousted out of office by the full force of the combination of security and judiciary systems that are in place.

Again, the current political class should all be lined up and issued a life-long disqualification from holding anysort of public office ever again; anyone who attempts to disagree with their disqualification should be thrown into jail.

After these reforms are successfully put in place, anyone caught breeching the law or acting in a way that can be deemed to being unpatriotic whilst holding a public office should be handed a determinate prison sentence, receive a disqualification that would include their extended family not been able to hold a public office for no less than fifty years.

And at this point, anyone caught vandalising public property should be handed determined jail sentences so great that it would act as a deterrent to anyone else.

Plus if we had a disciplined leadership from 1960 till date, we would have long had sufficient, steady electricity to power our trains and no goat or cow will venture there cos they'd be electrocuted. There'd also be functional CCTVs and honest, loyal, patriotic law enforcement officers that will man those cameras, arrest any would-be thief and have them prosecuted/rehabilitated.

Leadership has nothing to do with inherent wickedness of an average Nigerian. Stealing clips and bolts can never be as a result of hunger and poverty, but sheer wickedness. Even in US, Canada and industrialized countries, you don't have to mount CCTV everywhere. I can bet it that they will even steal CCTV here to mess up whatever evidence to get the thieves apprehended..

Government must regulate the collection and trading in scrap metals in this country. Scrap metal collectors are responsible for this vandalism.

The Nigerian government has raised alarm concerning the stealing and replacing of clips, bolts and knots on the Lagos/Ibadan rail line.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, said 5,000 clips and 10,000 bolts as well as knots had been replaced along the rail track.

Mr. Fidet said, “You can’t imagine that between Lagos and Ibadan, we have replaced over 5,000 clips and close to 10,000 bolts and nuts on the track and it is not a good thing at all.


“Without those things on the tracks, accidents can occur.

“We know the volume of passengers on a train. So vandalism of rail infrastructure has to stop.”

He added that government would still go ahead to extend the Lagos-Ibadan line to Kano in three years.

The Nigerian government has in the past 10 years sunk over 4 billion dollars in its railway sector with the hope of reviving and sustaining the sector.

How many people are responsible for stealing the bolts. Say about 20 people. Divide 20 by 180 million! That's 0%. In fact, count everyone that are in prison for just cause and divide that number by 180m to get the percentage.

Of course they know the value and that is why they steal it. The point is that they may not be educated enough to understand the possible far-reaching impact of stealing those nuts and bolts. They may never think of issues of possible derailment leading to mass deaths/injuries and that is where my concern is as to the quality of education in Nigeria which ordinarily should open the minds and broaden the horizons of even the least person. That is why majority are fixated on immediate gratification; it is also why they cannot ask questions of leaders who come to spray some money and foodstuff during elections; it is also why some of you keep supporting the same idiots that are trying very hard to block the few educated ones from asking questions in the name of social media regulation and hate speech nonsense. That is why the government will disregard court orders and no one knows what next to do because institutions are manned by the same gullible, uneducated, political lackeys. Read the information provided by this link specifically page 5 - 7 and understand that electrified rail lines actually have electricity running through them. In fact it gives a summary of statistics for vandals that lost their lives in the process of their crimes through other causes including electrocution. The crimes do not seem to stop but it is drastically reduced because technology plays a key role and my point is that successive Nigerian governments have failed the citizens.
Furthermore, like I mentioned in my earliest post, with the provision and maintenance of steady, reliable power, there will be far less persons interested in vandalism of this nature. Criminals remain liable but the government takes the greater share of the blame, take it or leave it.

If you have constant running water in your house, you are not likely to hoard water or be bothered with how to get water for basic needs simply because the government, your landlord or yourself, with available resources, have provided clean, potable steady water. Now, what do you think happens in areas without clean, steady water supply? If they steal or even bust water pipes to gain access to water and reduce stress of long treks to fetch water, will you blame those poor people or the irresponsible government that failed to provide basic amenities? Let's not talk of the avoidable illnesses and diseases they are forced to go through..
