You already admit the scheme is terrible since the execution is lacking, it should be scrapped period!

I said the idea is good but the execution is lacking.

A terrible idea cannot produce a good result but a great idea can manifest wrongly if not carried out properly

They should stop eating the money that was budgeted for the scheme every year and reform it

Humm, and it's already a month now. The mum didn't call to hear from her, I mean to here her voice at least.

The atmosphere around her should tell her something is wrong.

It is well with her

On the contrary, NYSC scheme is a brilliant endeavour with a good rationale but the actual execution is severely lacking.

They should improve it and not throw it away
Everybody should serve in his or her state, no need for this unwanted movement. After all the aim of the scheme have not been achieved. Nigeria is more divided now than ever before in the history of this Country.

No, they have been communicating. She has been buying items and sending to her mum.

The point is to mix with other people, serving in your state is counter-intuitive

The unwanted movement is unwanted because of bad condition of roads, what does it have to do with NYSC

Nigeria is more divided than ever, so you want us to isolate ourselves more? Its not NYSC that divided Nigeria

Mixing with others can come as a natural phenomenon not a compulsory subjection in the guise of NYSC which I know is reserved for the children of the poor. Go to Abuja and see where the children of the rich are serving are you telling me that they don't deserve to be taken to remote villages for their service. I still stand on my earlier vituperation the aim of NYSC is defeated, let us face the reality and stop wasting the lives this unfortunate sons and daughters of the poor in the guise of serving their fathers Land. Nigeria is not worth the stress and pain.

This young service thing just keeps being disadvantageous to many of our youth. With all the risks involved and many times not benefits to the corps members after their service

Nigeria is not worth the stress and pain.

Relying on natural phenomenon in an artificially-created ethnic microwave like Nigeria is unrealistic. It is better to actively drive integration than wait for different groups to passively waft towards each other when we know that that almost never happens.

Its unfortunate that some children of wealthy people choose to bypass due process and stay back in Lagos and Abuja to be comfortable rather than take the chance to venture into a new environment and enrich the lives of their compatriots. But plenty of wealthy people also go wherever they are deployed to, so long as it is safe.

The aim of NYSC has not been defeated. NYSC is just another arm of public life; in that way you could also argue that the aims of universities, hospitals, schools, pharmacies, etc. have also been defeated just because they are not working to their full potential. So what will we have left if we just throw all those away? That an idea has been executed poorly does not mean it has been defeated. An idea cannot be defeated unless it is debunked by another superior idea.

If we really wanted to face reality we would go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate the infrastructure of the entire scheme to see how we can adapt it to suit modern-day Nigeria. We would improve the pay, subsidise their feeding and transport, stop automatically sending people to schools, update the website, just uproot the whole thing and sort it out.

Yes Nigeria at this present moment is not worth any of our stress and pain, but it could be.

what is good about nysc? It has outlived whatever usefulness it had.

Established after the civil war for reintegration and there's been killings and mayhem since then till now

This life...

What is the essence of life if after every struggle and hustle death comes?

no wonder one of the apostles in the bible concluded it this way by saying if only on this earth we have hope..then we are of all men.. the most miserable..

my advise to all reading this is to make ur way right with God becus u don't know when ur own death will knock at ur own closet door.

RIP mama.

R.I.P dear corper!

And still yet people want you to die for Nigeria, when Nigeria doesn't even know you exist!

i don't know why you had to bring Nigeria into this, but I want you to try and develop country integrity just like the Americans. If Nigeria is not good you should know that the problem lies with the system and the politicians. Kindly fight your politicians and let Your country be. R. I. P to the dead.

This only reminds me of two of our colleagues during our the final weeks of NYSC.
The first died in a motor accident on the way back to our PPA after he used the opportunity of our last free month to pack some of his stuff home.
The other got briefly sick but there was no hospital for treatment. The nearest hospital was 7 hours away. .she died on the way to the hospital.

If I were this lady's parents.
I would tell them not to bury her in that stupid uniform.

The government is highly detached from the people. And until when they realize that proper infrastructure and social amenities contribute to the standard of living of it's people, their negligence will keep contributing to the detriments of our health and well being.
