Are the esan of edo originally benins...?

There was a post earlier on facebook on esan platform that the enojies of esan disputed the fact that esans were originally benins, who had migrarated to the present day esan land in edo central.
That the esan weren't originally benins and that the benins at thier arrivals meant aboriginal settlers at thier various location
The enojies in esan land ,admitted to the fact that they were settlers in esan land before the mass migration of the benin people which had happened during the ewuares reign...when he declared strict laws against sex, trading and farming in benin, after the death of his two sons ,which led many of the benin royals and commoners to flee to the various esan areas and at thier arrival, they meant settler's already in thier various location and they suppressed them, and later rule over them....
And this fact were also said to be true by the other various part of edo state, that the benin were never the original settlers of those various edo towns in edos state and that benins were migrant who had meant settlers and subdued the people they meant there.
They also made reference to the fact that the true benin settlement in esan lands is t "igueben" that speaks the same language with benins and practice the same culture as the benins People

Could this also be true from other areas who claim origin to benin outside edo state....?

The post made me realised that the original Benin's were original very few, despite the various migration that occur
but how they ruled their neigbours who were more than them in population still amuse me ....till today
If the Benin people were very few how come they literally influenced thier neighbouring states without stress....?

Esans were originally Igbos. Even the so called Bini are originally Igbos from Onitsha.

The largest population of the modern day Esan ancestry migrated from benin during the reign of Ewaure 1,although its probable that the Esan conquered the original settlers on the Esan lands ,but they were much more populated than the aboriginal settlers...

Benin's influenced was not always enforced in war for example when Oba Ozoula the son of Oba Ewaure wanted loyalty from the Esan capital of Uromi...Agba nojie who was the second king of uromi rejected it and war broke out.....this was during the Uzea war and during this war....the Esans prevailed over Benin and as such Oba Ozoula was beheaded by Agba the king of Esan land and Ozoula was buried in uromi......but Agba had to vanish because no one kills the Oba and lives to tell of it....the forest were Agba entered and vanished is still in uromi to this day and no king in uromi dares enter that forest...it is called Awojie...literally meaning the place of the disappearance of the king...it was after this war that the Edo and Esans made a treaty of peace and Esan was recognized by the Oba as a sovereign state and the Esan even lended the Benin soldiers during wars....
During the war the Esan battle cry was Esangbedo(Esan fights Benin) but after it they changed Esaniegbedo(Esan do not fight Benin)

D defeat of the benins happened because there was a plot setup by the benins to the esan to find a way to end the benin and esan endless war, between the enojie and ozuola....
The benins warrior told the esan how to kill ozulua through its weak point and the esan vice versa ...
The esan went behind to inform the enojie of the plot ...
And after the enojie killed ozulua he finshed as instructed by his soldiers into the forest....and was never found ...
Benin went home with the body of ozulua to bury him and they inform benin of the defeat....

The sentence by the benins “ if you see an esan and a snake kill the esan man first before you kill the snake" this sentence was coined because of the esan cunny atitude when they went behind to inform thier king of the plot....

The esan sentence " esan gbedo " essn has defeated edo after the death of ozulua
And a peace treaty was made by both party to end furthet war
Esanigbedo" esan wont defeat benin anylonger ...

The simple answer to this question is No.

The tradition that the Esan were people who fled from Benin in the time of Ewuare (15th century) oversimplifies a more complex picture. The Esan area was well-settled by the 15th century. Ewuare's policies may have produced exiles who fled into the Esan area but they met well-entrenched aboriginal people there.

They probably meant fewer aborigines ...
Which made edo people dominate

Two things are not right with your post... The Esan did not defeat Benin by mere cunning the Benin warriors attested to the fierceness of the Esan warriors and plus Ozoula or Ozoula's head was buried in Esan land infact there is a given name for this occurance ..if I am not mistaken at ukoni in present day Uromi.....even the British colonisation attested to the brunt of the Esan warriors...Benin took 21 days to fall..but Uromi took 46 days to conquer pls do the maths....

You're absolutely wrong history has to be said correctly esan are benins and benins are esan so why twist history to favour thesame people because we have different names..

I have read the esan edo history it showed that Benins did more than migrating to the esan areas ,esan was more like the second home for the Benin people the benins married from the esan people especially the royals ,benins constantly migrated to esan areas throughout the empire ....and the real esan are Benins too
It was true the esans were even stronger than the benins in miltary ...and the benins had to bring the esans under its control through diplomacy....

I see esans as Benin's
But for the other part of edo i dont even regard them as edo not to say benin....

Esan where good in military tatics
Benins were good in administration

But benin history with no doubt attest to the fact that esan refused to honour its bargain and thats why the benins statement which says never trust an esan man
Do u think the statement pop out from no were ,yes our oba was killed by esan enojie ,after several years of endless war and suddenly the obas who refused to die was now killed if it was not a plot that the warriors ploted and the esan refused to honour thier own part

lol..of course we Esans believed that we came from Edo...infact an Esan man dares not pray on kolanut during ceremonies without first asking if a Benin man is in the gathering and if a Benin person is there he does the prayer whether he is a child or an adult..
Esan see Benin as seniors..and the Oba as head of the Onojie because literally the Oba is his father...
So don't get me wrong....Esan culture is an offspring of Edo

gregyboy...one question are you Benin or Esan..to be honest the Esan migrant have always maintained the family relationship with Edo calling them Odion meaning our seniors ....even during festive songs the Oba is always prayed for in his salutation.... Even mere things like vegetables are made to connect with Benin like waterleaf which Esan call (ebe.na hoho rere vedo) which means the leaf brought by wind from Edo.....but it sad that ill treatment we get from Benin people.....its almost like stigma being Esan in Benin community..... I'm schocked the way Benin people hold to grudges that results from quarrels among our ancestors...... Benin should realise that people are people and their tribe doesn't account for their personality whether good or bad

Everyone gets the bashing too if you see an edo insulting esan you should smile and dont frown at it because if dna test is taken between edo and esan there would be no difference in thier dna.....so any benin insulting esan is literally insulting Benin's, because benin and esan are one with just language difference and little cultural differences
Even the yorubas insult themselves too same as the igbos they insult themselves too .And nigerians calls we benin jujulist....
The esan are the real true brothers who will go any length to defend benins behind thier backs but a benin man wouldn't do thesame because of its pride but behind the pride he knows they are one
The other part of edo are very mixed and they are mostly mixed with few benin heritage so we dont count them as Benin's

And i am benin full bloded Benin

I love the comments between greyboy amd chidox. I am esan. I remember confronting a Benin boy in school for calling me a slave. Dude was telling his fellow Edo that these ones are our slave. I walked up to him and told him to go to the Palace in Ogbe and he will see that his Princes have slave blood in them. I informed him that he is not more Benin than the people in igueben who has to stay back after the Idah war at the request of Oba Esigie or the people in Agenebode. If Oba Ozolua was alive he would frown if you called the owan people slaves either. When Benin city fell, Esan land fought on and most of these new villages that are everywhere are only recent migrations. My ancestors i was told came from Agbon (agbor) into esan land. Benin has always been cosmopolitan.

What makes you Edo is your absolute loyalty to the Monarchy nothing else.....absolute loyalty

Dont mind the bigoted fellow

After reading the history of esan people i saw that they are even more benin than the present benin people ,
Esan is 100% benin undisputed
