My personal opinion as someone who studied pharmacology is that pharmacy has more options, better pay n stronger body in Nigeria. A course like Med lab or nursing would even be better. Except she is not going to be limited by her choice of course, she can go for any course including pharmacology. On its own it's an inferior course to pharmacy, but the individual will eventually determine how well he/she will go in life with any course

physics a branch of engineering

Pharmacology is one of the branches of Pharmacy.
Pharmacology deals with Drug Dynamics and Kinetics.
While Pharmacy is Much more than that..deals with Drug Formulation, Dispensing etal.
Pharmacy is a Professional Course/Degree(B.Pharm or Pharm.D) while Pharmacology is Just a Normal BSc. Degree.
A Pharmacist can also be a Pharmacologist by virtue of Postgraduate Studies but a Pharmacologist is not a Pharmacist.
Both are not Equivalent.
Pharmacy is Much Higher than Pharmacology.

Very incisive

people studying pharmacology are not proud of their course and beside they have less job opportunity. when I was doing predegree my neighbour was lamenting that he made a mistake studying the course... I leta got admission and dy gave me agriculture when I initially fill in pharmacy, my uncle offer to switch me to pharmacology after one year in school but I declined.. if not medicine, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory.. it should be agriculture.
I can't go to school and still depend on government for employment

Pharmacologist are the ones that does the drug research, extract drugs and chemicals from plants, use white rats to test those drugs to know if they are fit for human consumption and then make them into tablets, capsules, syrups, injections etc.
Pharmacists are the one that deals with drugs interactions (i.e. Which of the drugs can be used with another without side effects.), So also drugs dispensation and marketing.

Pharmacology is the study of the sources, uses, and mechanisms of action of drugs. That is what the body does to drugs (pharmacokinetics) and what drugs do to the body (pharmacodynamics).

Pharmacy is the science or practice of the preparation, formulation, and dispensing of medicinal drugs.
Can a pharmacologist work in a pharmacy ?
A pharmacologist does not work in a pharmacy, instead they work in laboratories

Pharmacologist is a person who discovers new drugs test their action and effectiveness over a disease. ... Pharmacist is one who has enough knowledge about drugs and helps a pharmacologist in research on drugs

As a pharmacist you fill prescriptions and advise patients on drug use. You are trained in a program that has a defined length. Usually you work in a retail pharmacy or a hospital pharmacy. The pay is good, the hours are regular, the work may be repetitious. Whether it is enjoyable depends on your management and your patients/customers, but it’s a steady job.
As pharmacologist you are a research scientist, either in academia or a pharmaceutical company. The pay is not too different from a pharmacist. You are trained in a Ph.D. program which takes as long as it takes. You are trying to develop new drugs or to understand how existing drugs work.

All kinds of professionals DEAL with drug interactions and that includes Pharmacologists, Doctors , Vet doctors etc

There is nothing peculiar about drug interactions to pharmacy indeed it is more of a pharmacologist concern.
Pharmacologist often generate knowledge that is used by other professionals

It is impossible to be a pharmacist or a doctor without studying pharmacology .
Many doctors go on to be pharmacologists I do not think doctors have any interest in becoming pharmacists

How is it more a branch of Pharmacy than it is a branch of medicine

You claim it is a "FACT"

What makes it a "BRANCH" of Pharmacy

You need to be clear what you mean by branch?

Is Mathematics a branch of accountancy or a branch of Engineering?

In order to be a pharmacist one has to study pharmacology
In order to become a pharmacologist there is no requirement to study pharmacy so which one is a branch of the other?

I am sorry to say this but you are talking nonsense

Its possible to state that pharmacology is STUDIED as a branch of pharmacy, to form part of the pharmacists training.

Just like accountants STUDY mathematics to prepare them for their work.

But the discipline of pharmacology is a science IN ITS OWN RIGHT.

So both of you could be correct in that regard. Just that the way that guy is writing it could be a little insulting to some people

What i mean is Pharmacology is a branch of Pharmacy that became independent.
Just the way Dentistry was a Branch of Medicine that Became independent.
There was Nothing like Pharmacology as an independent course..it was studied Under Medicine/Pharmacy until it became Unique and stood on its Own.

I am quite sure that this is a wrong statement; pharmacology is basically a mixture of physiology and chemistry

It came from medicinal chemistry. From people testing substances on animals (and humans)

Pharmacy has a different origin. From the "apothecary" and giving herbal remedies

The two disciplines now converged as scientific method concerning drug discovery became more advanced

You are ignorant and you refuse to think.

Pharmacology simply means the knowledge and study of medicines/drugs

This is studied to different levels and degrees by
doctors
nurses
drug manufacturers
pharmacists etc

Just like they study chemistry.
Chemistry is not a branch of anything

Pharmacology is as old as humanity in virtually all cultures whatever name you choose to call it

So if you use your head you will not talk about "independent courses" whatever that means

Pharmacology is older than universities and almost as old as humanity
How then is it a branch of pharmacy. The reality is that doctors used to be pharmacist, nurse, pharmacologist all combined.

That does not make one a branch of the other

fighting is not a branch of boxing rather it is boxing that is a branch of fighting
