Yesbthe government are trying it's best by evacuating all nuisance dumped by road side. but the people are the problem dumping refuse at every bus stop and expecting government to come clear it even as it wasn't approved

Making the whole Lagos state clean seems like something impossible and even if it’s possible then it’s never going to be something he can achieve within a year in office, that place is too damn congested/overpopulated, lots of hoods and ghettos
The population alone makes it seem impossible
Maybe for major roads or popular/highbrow areas sha
the problem isnt about congestion or overpopulation , it is an issue of discipline .
cleaning the streets everyday will not make lagos cleaner , what will make lagos or anywhere cleaner is imbibing the culture of cleanliness in the citizens, cleaning the rubbish ppl make all the time is just like encouraging them to continue . lagos has always been dirty but during the time of idiagbon , noone dared to even throw a paper on the ground anyhow and sanitation was strictly complied with and there was serious stiff punishment for anyone who throws rubbish around anyhow . until there are stiff punishments for littering the states with dirt and strictly implemented , lagos will continue to be dirty as it is now

Whichago save is he talking about, is it the one he's living in or the one I am living in? I need to get that cleared first [1quote author=AutoJoshNG post=84980248]Not too long ago, everywhere one turned to in Lagos, heaps of refuse stared at us. This was equally with their accompanying health hazard.

The situation was the result of the change in the method of refuse disposal in the State.

In 2016, Governor Akinwumi Ambode introduced the Cleaner Lagos Initiative. The intention was for a single company known as “Visionscape” to take over the residential waste collection from 350 PSP operators. Sadly, the transit from the PSP to Visionscape led to unimpressive waste management in the State.

However, shortly before Ambode’s departure from the seat of authority in the state, the Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to call on the Private Sector Partnership (PSP) operators in their areas to go back to refuse packing job with immediate effect.

Shortly, afterwards, there appeared to be some measure of improvement in waste management. Still, a whole lot more needed to be done.

https://mobile.twitter.com/jidesanwoolu/status/1204743025634746368

Is waste management better in the last 6 months?

However, driving around town, one can still see heaps of refuse along major roads in the State. The drainage systems are no better. They are mostly filled with refuse.

Indeed, it is undeniable that waste management is better than before the PSP operators were recalled, which occurred last year. However, the improvement can be said to be only marginally better.

Is the current sanitary condition of Lagos State enough for the State Government to pat itself on its back for?

Or is the current administration in Lagos State operating on a relatively low standard as regards environmental sanitation?

What is your opinion?

I don't agree...most times i carry my empty pet bottles for miles with no waste collector in sight.what am i to do, carry it all day? I'm not talking privately owned waste bins...The government should invest in more waste collection points across the metropolis and see if the culture doesn't improve then awareness on disposing waste and caring for the enviroment 'paper, can, other' stuff like that....my 2cents

Yes its getting better compare to under the emperor Ambode that almost killed Lagosian with cholera.
Maxymilliano:
There's an improvement compared to what it used to be, more is still needed in enlightening the populace on hazards associated with indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and also in areas of enforcing discipline. Agege metropolis can serve as pilot scheme, where sachets of all manner of alcoholic beverages, take-away packs, pure water, pet bottles etc dominated the drainage's.

We Lagosians can only pray that BSO will be better than Ambode (even Fashola) in the future...
But to be brutally honest, at this point, Sanwo-Olu cannot carry Ambode's jockstrap in governance!

Permit me to "jog your memory" with respect to ambode's tenure, in addition to the projects you listed, there are the Abule-Egba flyover bridge, the 21 border roads and 2 bridges at Alimosho, the road network at Epe, Ojodu Berger revitalization, the Ikeja terminal, the Bariga Waterfront and jetty, the court and magistrate complex at Badagry, the Five Cowries Jetty at Falomo, the HOMS housing estates that he completed or brought near to completion, the Light-Up Lagos initiative, and the 450 inner roads (each with covered sidewalks and streetlights), as well as the several projects that he started but the thugs at the House of Assembly refused to pass his 2019 budget until after he left office to ensure that he did not complete, such as the Pen Cinema Agege flyover, the Yaba and Oyingbo terminals, the Oshodi-Abule Egba BRT corridor, the proposed Fagba flyover, etc.

Frankly, the BUSIEST person thus far in BSO's government has been the OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER!

Sanwolu isn't as good a Fashola but better than Ambode.

In addition to my previous list, the employment trust fund (LSETF) set up by Ambode has given grants and low-interest loans to hundreds of SMSEs set up by Lagos RESIDENTS - i.e., all residents of Lagos are eligible regardless of so-called state of origin.

The Ambode administration also provided FREE education to over 1 million students in Lagos public schools - again, without regard to so-called state of origin. His administration renovated scores of public schools (under the direct supervision of the Deputy Governor, who happens to be an Educator), trained and re-trained teachers, raise teacher salaries and provided some headmasters and principals with housing and/or car loans. In addition, the FREE Code Lagos initiative (to train a minimum of a million coders) and the Ready-Set-Work training and internship program has provided better and more employment opportunities for young graduates and the youth. Its FREE adult literacy program (Eko nke koo), for which it recruited and trained 1000 recent graduates as facilitators, had over 50,000 adult enrollees in just the first year.

In health, the Ambode government has inaugurated the biggest sub-national contributory healthcare insurance scheme in Africa, renovated/upgraded primary healthcare centers, and has set up a first-class Critical Care Center at LASUTH (headed by a Professor from Howard University, Washington DC), among other initiatives. Furthermore, even though the Security Trust Fund was initiated before his administration Ambode has sustained and improved on it, including increasing death benefits to policemen killed in the line of duty to N5 million (and bear in mind that this is s federal police force which should not be the state’s responsibility in the first instance). One could go on and on, but suffice it to note that virtually all major projects by the Ambode administration often has a sign with the notation “Your Taxes at Work”!

Nigeria is in such a sad state because we often mock and deride success and hard work, while elevating failures and rent-seekers. SMH

While obviously we should redouble our waste management efforts...

I have been to as many African nations as most, and (perhaps apart from Kigali) they all have places just as DIRTY as anything in Lagos...
Even the Nairobi that you are raving about, has Africa's (and probably the world's) LARGEST SLUM in Kibera and several others in Mathare.

Population is not the problem, mediocrity in leadership is responsible for lwhat you are seeing in Lagos today, these also cut across the country, unfortunately we have settled for less in this part of the world coz unnecessary sentiments..

When yoh compare Lagos to other populous cities in the world, you will realize that poplulation is not actually the problem rather we lack quality leadership in this country, politicians are more concern about how much wealth they can acquire while in power nothing else....

Sorry, but it's not just leadership...

People paste posters right underneath "Post No Bill" signs, casually litter the streets, turn public bins into water containers, urinate against the wall of public toilets, etc. Ultimately, the condition of Lagos (and Nigeria) is a culmination of the conduct of all residents (by omission or commission).
