Not necessarily a factory defect...
An oil pump that has been running on an engine for 19 years+ may fail because it is worn out. Vehicle is a 2001 Lexus

Oil starvation, blockage of the oil screen or orifices or sludge causes oil pump. Also, wear and tear over time can do this.
