The reason why you should not be fighting ethnicity , tribalism , sectionalism etc....

if you, A Yoruba man marry a Yoruba woman and travel to China and seldomly come home. All your children and next generation will be speaking mandarin and by the third generation, they might never know a country exist that is called Nigeria and inside it a Yoruba race .....

Human race is simply one race !!

How many Nigerians know indigenous hausa names??

Arabization is slowly eroding your culture.

No, you are the ignorant one.

And this is the only reply you will get from me. Because you are rude and ill-mannered.

Words like cutlery, gun, knife, etc. whose origins can be traced to the French and the Saxons, Jutes and Angles, and even other invaders like the Vikings who contributed to the English language today, should still not be referred to as English words as a result of where they originated from.

Long before Islam came to Hausaland, Hausas had names they gave. And even with the advent of Islam, some variations of the names still exist in Arabic, and in Hausa.

Yes, some Hausa names have their origin in Arabic, but they have been Africanised and are now referred to as Hausa names, not Arabic names.

That’s why, for instance, there are many Arabic-derived personal names in Hausa, that would be unrecognizable to Arabs. Names like Mamman (Muhammad), Lawan (Auwal), Shehu (Sheikh), etc would hardly make any sense to an Arab.”

And I'm from the North. Hausa is not my culture.

Cheers and enjoy your evening.

Let's see if they can speak it shamelessly after 10 years in obodo oyibo.

I say obodo oyibo because they will never want to come and live in the sh1t hole their father ran away from.

Heritage indeed.
that doesn't matter the man has played his role as a father.

Hello, these are my children. I am from Poland, my husband is from Shaki, Nigeria and they were born in Finland.

We started our Instagram @Yoruba_Pikin and @Naija_wifey to encourage parents to speak their native languages to kids especially when living abroad. Our kids speak 4 languages, it's not been an easy journey but thanks to our persistence and love for our countries we made it happen! Now they can easily communicate with their grandparents and any time they travel to Nigeria/Poland they aren't scarred bcs they understand what is going on around them. Every family has its own way of upbringing the kids and please, keep in mind that it's our own way.

Biracial marriage and multilingual children are a real challenge but we both have the same values in life and both believe strongly in God. He always makes a way for those who believe!

Madam good to know you're cooperating with our own, you're a submissive wife but the way he speaks is not polished, Yoruba is pleasing to the ear not harsh.

wao!, kudos to you and your spouse!, my toddler has just one word of Yoruba vocabulary compared to over 50 English words despite all my persistent effort speaking of Yoruba to her, i guess the daycare has a stronger influence over her . I feel defeated so far, and this video gives an inspiration. Four Languages !!!. Are your beautiful kids home schooling?

Awesome ..here in Nigeria most kids of upper and middle class don't speak local language...that is the tragedy we are in...they don't even go to villages because pastors have fúcked their brains up...they are stuck in Lagos and city centres

Thanks. Oh really? What do pastors say not to make them visit their relatives in rural areas?

Thank you, much appreciated! We both are entrepreneurs so there is no time or patience grin for homeschooling. They speak only Finnish at the daycare. We have been consistent with the language and once they ask us smth in another language we correct them and say it in ours as many times as needed. In your case, I would advise in the beginning switching the language at home, so she knows that she can speak English at the daycare and Yoruba with you. Make it fun, sing in Yoruba etc. or send her for some time to the grandparents (if they speak Yoruba) smiley

Heritage they are not even proud of... grin

In Nigeria ..you get flogged or punished for speaking yoruba / vernacular at school.,
You meet someone for d 1st time .. you speak yoruba to them ,,,the next tin na to ignore or walk away from you...their look will make u feel like an illitrate.
Church, university , work place ... you cant even approach them speaking yooruba
The worst is to try and toast someone in yoruba... grin grin
some household in Nigeria, the children are forbidden to speak in yoruba.

now someone speaking yoruba abroad becomes big deaL... I tire 4 ma pple oooo grin

The funny thing about you guys complaining about people not speaking Yorúba is that you will be the first to insult someone for not speaking it 'well'. I can't count the number of foolish Yoruba people that insulted me for my accent calling me names and making fun of me. Abeg carry your language on your head.
