Scottallen:In okigwe the price of a plot in the town itself is not up to 2.5m. Why naturally law of demand and supply, if nobody is buying the land price will fall. Then govt says they want to build an estate and they acquire a huge hectare from the forest. And start selling out the plots for 2.5m. If u have 2.5m to buy land will u go to the bush to buy it or use lesser to buy it in the town itself 1 Like |

No big industries in Owerri to employ large labour that enables people to be able to pay huge rents and buy govt/public houses in Owerri. Fact is: Nearly all Development institutions in Imo state are SEIZED by Owerri. Eg, 6 tertiary education institutions that should have been distributed all over the three zones are trapped in Owerri. As support is Owerri regional surface water supply since 1982 built by Mbakwe. All State and federal ministries are in Owerri. For short, nearly about 90% of federal allocations to Imo state end up in Owerri. Ask any Owerri person that at least one tertiary education institution in Owerri to be taken to Orlu or to Okigwe, he will see you as enemy. Govt committee has since asked gov Ihedioha to activate Eastern Palm university to a campus of Imo state university and the campus in Umuna Okigwe also. Ihedioha may rather want to give Eastern Palm university to Rochas 2 Likes |

Coldie: Ignorance with arrogance is a big disease. You don't know that: any area provided with roads, durable public water supply system and electricity, attracts the rich to settle or lodge in hotel facilities. in developed countries, portable water supply, roads and electricity are provided in all habitable areas. For that, wealthy people don't like to live in urban areas; guests don't lodge in hotels in urban centres. People like you from Owerri area take pride in calling Okigwe and Orlu areas villages, not worthy of any govt investment. It's all because no public water supply system exists to spur modern development in Orlu and Okigwe zones. About forty five years ago, Owerri was a little village town with thatched roofs and mud houses along Douglas road. Mbakwe govt's huge water supply projects for Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu were aimed to provide uniform development in the entire Imo state. Evan Enwerem from Owerri was to have completed little works left in Okigwe water project, and start work on Orlu water project. But he didn't. If Ihedioha doesn't actualize the two surface water supply systems of IMSG for Orlu and Okigwe before 2023, no hide and seek from him shall keep him going. 3 Likes |

Amah70: The bolded is mere exaggeration. I would say that Owerri would not have see rapid development if it was not the capital of Imo State period. In today's Nigeria, many cities are striving on individual borehole system. |
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Amah70: 1:09pm On Jan 06, 2020 |
Dedetwo: Okay, if you don't accept that availability of public water supply system in Owerri since the mid 1980s made Owerri develop, let's scatter Owerri water works beginning from Otamiri river. Thereafter, let's see how Owerri will EVER be a modern city with private water boreholes. If Okigwe and Orlu water projects are not actualized, Owerri zonal water supply system must be deactivated, so that all Imo shall go private water borehole. Remember that Owerri zonal water supply system was deactivated from 2010 till now. Borehole for every body Evan Enwerem from Owerri refused to actualize Okigwe and Orlu zonal water supply systems. Instead, he went after locating IMSU in Owerri which has all universities and polytechnic in Imo state. 1 Like |

Amah70: Water supply is not our problem in Southern Nigeria. No State has public water supply including Lagos the most developed city. We all have very small section of each State particularly the capital enjoying public water supply. What Imo needs is continuity and focused leadership. Rochas focused on tourism and it brought a lot of development to the State with the capital Owerri and environs bubbling with luxury shoppers, fun seekers and real estate investors. Other towns including Orlu, Okigwe and Oguta also had sizeable growth in hospitality industry and real estate but right now everything has been slowed down. The present Governor refused to build on what he inherited from Rochas but rather focused on how to destroy Rochas legacies and start a new one thereby drawing the State backwards. If by the grace of God he is removed by the court or State of emergency as is being witnessed presently his successor must go back to where Rochas stopped and continue with the clear direction and geometric growth Imo was undergoing. All the parks must be revived and roads he destroyed must be repaired. The waterfalls he destroyed must be restored and the heavy tax he introduced against businesses must be reduced. There should be no room for childish witch haunting. 2 Likes |

Imo1stson: Your first two sentences I bolded above show that you are - -- a bush man. Have you seen anywhere in other developed or even fast developing countries without public pipe borne water from surface water supply system? It's corrupt leadership in Nigeria which denies people the most important commodity - treated pipe borne water - which every reasonable leader provides citizens first, and foremost. Why is average life expectancy going below 50 in Nigeria where people consume untreated water from boreholes? But life expectancy is going above 70 in countries where people consume treated water from public surface water supply system. Do you want to remain in the 19th century forever, because you can't tell corrupt leaders to rise up to their responsibilities? The first commodity Oyibo provided in my Orlu area is treated pipe borne water, same as in Lagos and many towns in then southern Nigeria. We now have to beg bad leaders for what existed fifty years ago. |

Imo1stson: You dislike gov Ihedioha by wishing for state of emergency to remove him as governor. Bad wishes from a possible anarchist. No force except the Court, can remove gov Ihedioha from office. Ihedioha has a deep seated flaw: he plans for development of only his Owerri senatorial zone. If not, every genuine State governor would have quickly converted the universities in Ogboko and Okigwe as part of Imo state university. Ihedioha ought to have started work on finishing the water supply projects for Okigwe and Orlu zones, the same time he started to refurbish Owerri water works; instead, he went to build new 1000 houses in Owerri. That's crass demonstration of primitive clan mindset. Now he has infuriated loads of people. |

Amah70: If Orlu is the capital of Imo state, we shall not be in this open conversation. Even if we had one, the opposite would had been the case. The capital city gets the Lion's share period. I am yet to see any public water supply in Owerri. My place of abode in Owerri is happily supplied with water through borehole as in the case of many residents of the town. |
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Amah70: 1:52am On Jan 07, 2020 |
Dedetwo: For the umpteenth time, in case you are partially blind, and could not read earlier posts here: Owerri regional surface water supply system is undergoing reactivation by gov Ihedioha. It's not yet ready. It supplies treated pipe borne water to about 5 of the 9 local govt areas in Owerri zone; NOT ONLY OWERRI STATE CAPITAL. This time, pipes may be laid to extend water supply to all the remaining 4 local govt areas in Owerri zone. People in Orlu and Okigwe zones shall be left with consuming untreated water from boreholes, if gov Ihedioha does not activate Okigwe regional surface water supply project and build that for Orlu senatorial zone. IMSG from Mbakwe era planned these three water supply projects since the 1980s. Only the water supply project of Owerri zone was completed before the military struck in 1983. If gov Enwerem from Owerri had taken up the realization of Okigwe and Orlu zonal surface water supply projects, and completed them; Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones would have developed uniformly. Enwerem dodged work on Okigwe and Orlu zonal water supply projects. During Udenwa govt, work restarted to complete Okigwe regional surface water supply project. YarAdua commissioned it in 2008, but inept govt of Ohakim could not supply water from it. Forget emperor Okorocha who knew nothing about governance of a state. Now, the lot fell on gov Ihedioha to realize Okigwe and Orlu regional surface water supply projects. THESE SURFACE WATER SUPPLY PROJECTS CANNOT BE AVOIDED AT THE LONG RUN. THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO THEM. 1 Like |

Amah70:So this man still carry his lamentation enter this new year? Na wa o, is it that you like being a cry cry baby or just like sounding like a broken record?? You have been crying, lamenting and gnashing your teeth about how Orlu had been abandoned while Owerri is now like London. I don't just understand you o. Others are bringing up pictures and ideas to make Imo better but yours is to be crying like a baby. FYI, Orlu is not better than Okigwe, Oguta, Mbaise etc so why the fixation on Orlu and this ridiculous comparison with Owerri?? If you guys are really passionate about making Orlu a thriving city, you can go ahead and do so, after all Nnewi people turned their village into town without waiting for the government. If Rochas from the same Orlu couldn't turn Orlu into Dubai yet you guys went ahead to vote him into Senate then what's your rational in calling Ihedioha to leave everything and develop Orlu? Stop this your village mentality and think straight. If everyone should start lamenting about their village like you do here, do you think you will have space to talk again? Owerri is the capital of Imo state so deal with it. If Orlu is too backward for your liking, call a meeting of Orlu zuru Mee and tell your people to help develop it just like Nnewi people did but if you can't do that, come to Owerri and stay, it is your state capital and you don't need a visa to do so. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Biafrarep: Biafrarep Is Imo state how Biafra is going to be? With people in capital area cornering and covet all the factors that induce development in a State, then insult people from other parts of the state? In Imo state, during the military govts, Owerri cornered all the 6 tertiary education institutions in Imo state for Owerri, no consideration for Orlu area. Anywhere in the world, just one university in a place is enough to facilitate rapid development of the place. Owerri cornered and covet all the three govt universities in Imo state for Owerri, the universities and polytechnics in Owerri have up to 200,000 staff and students, all yielding more than N2,billion per month to urban expansion and modernization of Owerri area. Owerri tells others to build their own towns with their own contributions. The most foolish aspect of foolishness is the inability of most Owerri folks to understand that State capital is mere seat of govt, not a place to be more developed by govs ahead of rest of the state. The inability of most Owerri folks to see that no place in the constitution of Nigeria was it stipulated that a state capital must be developed first by governors before rest of the state. You folks from Owerri shall be grateful to a governor like Rochas Okorocha who thought he would be recognized as good presidential material through his development of Owerri. 1 Like |

B2mario: Photoshopped Orlu. Only fools are deceived by online warriors of Rochas Okorocha with this photo. Okorocha dualized this road and three others channeling to the road to his Ideato home, put street lights on them, but scrapped more than 18 km of urban roads in Orlu, abandoned them. |
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by kikake: 6:44pm On Jan 07, 2020 |
Unquenchable primitive greed? Within the last six months, Owerri cornered the federal Fire fighting training School of Southeast and Southsouth to Owerri. Owerri has just cornered a N60 billion headquarters of BankExim of southeast/Southsouth for Owerri. All these in addition to all six tertiary education institutions in Imo state hosted by Owerri. Empty lands perhaps, more than in Owerri, exist in Orlu and Okigwe zones. Define extreme clannish people. 2 Likes |
